Ali Saad: The running back from Riverview ran for 208 yards on 32 carries while leading the previously winless Pirates to a 23-3 victory over Huron. The win avenged last years 41-0 drubbing. What a difference a year makes!
Michael Howey: The senior signal caller from SMCC led the Falcons to a 25 -13 win over Milan by rushing the ball just 6 times for 131 yards and two touchdowns.
Jodeci Mays: The junior running back from Airport and the likely Huron League Offensive Player of the Year winner rushed for four touchdowns and 231 yards on 21 carries as the Jets pounded Grosse Ile 44-0.
Bryan McCullough: The towering junior running back ran for 115 on 15 carries and scored two touchdowns while leading the Bears to a 34-12 win over Flat Rock.
Dan Chickeral: The senior leader for the Flat Rock Rams rushed for 74 yards and threw an 11 yard touchdown pass while recording 19 tackles from his safety position in the Rams loss to Jefferson.
Jake Sterling: The junior did a little bit of everything in the Bears win over Flat Rock last night. Sterling rushed for 96 yards and threw a touchdown pass. He also recorded 9 tackles on defense while also handling the kicking duties for coach Cisco’s team.
Michael Pannone: The junior safety from SMCC recorded 13 tackles and had a fumble recovery in the Falcons key win over Milan.
CC's backs are studs..and with an above average O-Line that is actually small compaired to most they have three studs who will all be back next year,Burkhart and Collins should be mentioned evrytime a CC back make player of the week, these boys do not get their due and CC's D-Line is just ok,they get no pressure on the QB and are ok against the run.
Here is something to think about, Huron started this season 2-1, calling the win against Jefferson the biggest in school history. Next week they play like crazy against SMCC and lose by 1 pt. But after that, they still only need to beat the worse 3 teams in the league to qualify for the playoffs, and something happened to make them absolutely give up. I dont know what that could be, but I know damn well part of it's coaching and part of it's leadership. Huron needs something different there, you have been built into a 3 or 4 win program, now you need someone to take it to a playoff program. That coach has been there a pretty long time to do nothing. And I know Huron has talent, look at their basketball and wrestling teams, not to mention just the football players they have in general. Something there has got to change, I remember running their scout team offense and it felt like I was playing xbox with all the random stuff they did. Huron, if you ever want a school playoff birth, something different has got to happen there.
CC's "stable" of backs are by no means average.. that comment makes you look silly. Yes the line has much to do with a running back's succes but to call Howey, Lovell, Cusumano, Lamour and Labeau average is just wrong.
Pannone(ALL REGION) how are you going to take shots at a player who made all region as a soph? Again, it makes you sound silly. I will agree that the best part of his game is not pass defense, it is stopping the run. I am just waiting on him to grow… I am going to say by start of football next year he will be 6ft 190lbs. they will probably move him to LB if that happens with Moore and LaPlante…. Try running on that LB corps!!
Congrats to Riverview for finally getting a win but in regards to "what a difference a year makes", well in regards to this game vs Huron, yes, but in regards to the season??? They are 1-6 (same as last year at this time), kids are unhappy (some even quitting), parents are complaining. Looks pretty much the same as last year. And how does Huron come within 1 point of beating far and away the best team in the league and then collapse like this?? Huronleaguefootball you are doing a great job with this blog, keep it up.
every kid prepares to go to the playoffs….doens't mean it's gonna happen..that is why they don't keep track of huron league jv records, and huron league jv stats…if those mattered you'd hear about it..it doesn't..
SMCC has AVG,off.& deff. backs thats it.Who makes them look good is there great off. & deff.lines.They should be the one's you should be talking about.pannone will not be going to the next level as a DB sorry.
When the huron kids were freshmen and sophs they still played for Dan's coaching staff. When these seniors were freshmen, they beat Airport and lost to Jefferson. Was that coaching? Weren't these kids like 5-4 as freshmen? That was
WITH Jim Barber, Gary steffes, and Anthony Taylor who left. Also, I know EVERY kid at Airport was working out in the offseasons in that time while Dan was just trying to keep these three in school let alone trying to get them to work out for football.
Not so fast! When the seniors at Huron were freshmen, kids like Mays and Pannone and many other good players in the league were in the 8th grade. Most really good freshmen move up to JV. Dan kept his freshmen together so they could win. He wanted to build confidence. Maybe he built over confidence or false hope. Who knows! As a parent ask yourself a question. After the SMCC game did you criticize the coaching in front of your kid? If you did and only you know that answer. You cut his legs out from underneath him.
Dan means well, us parents can see that, it is just absolutely sickening when we watched our kids win as freshman, and sophomores, then when junior n senior year comes around, they get killed. Why? They used to play the same teams and whoop on them.. the ONLY difference is the coaching staff.
Its just hard to sit back and watch your kid be miserable through football season when this should be the best time of their life, and they have been preparing for 6 years together to go to the playoffs.
in regards to cameron being a star, the post was referring to his selection as such during the SMCC game when GI lost by 37. airport did not "shut down" the passing attack, there were only two attempts by grosse ile the entire game because of the conditions so unless Zeus is wearing the blue and yellow i think you're wrong.
The only star that could of came from huron would be Weclowski. He is playing with some sort of arm injury because he was wearing a cast in the game and he still managed to get 24 tackles. He is the only good player huron has to count on night in and night out. ( He should be defensive player of the year even though his teams playing terrible).
I agree that Huron should not have any Friday night stars. There are some kids that played well, Weclowski is always putting on a show, Wilson is also fun to watch, Tavtigian had a great defensive game, and it is great to see Romanowski in the game again playing well, but there is no reason these kids should be on any headlines. I understand that as a parent, and everyone needs to stop complaining. You watched the game, and you know who played well. This guy does a great job with the blog, there is no need for him to put any stars down for a 23-3 loss to an 0-6 team on homecoming night, besides maybe Kalbfliesh.
what did cameron do friday night that made him a star for GI? the airport d, with a little help from the weather, shut down the passing attack and had more receptions themselves than cameron did. come on there is obviously some bias there. if you are pointing out his defensive effort, you cannot because his team lost by 44 not 37.
Losing not loosing…. sorry pet peave… as well as defense not defence.
As a SMCC fan I was impressed and a little sad after watching Milan loose. There team had so much heart. They walked off the field better than any other team in the league could have after loosing a chance of a Huron League Championship.
Anyways… GOOD LUCK FALCONS GO ALL THE WAY!!!
It's a winless team now i thought it was 20 points. Now thers no winless teams left so whats that mean. And leading tacklersare on the field more yes.Just as the leading rushers have the most touches right.(No brainer there) This isall facts not opion.Like Cameron from GI had a great game but his team lost by 37 points. He had every right to be a friday night star and he was.If you dont see the facts then what ever. And till now all the stars have been picked by numbers. So everything you said dont add up sorry.Everything i have said is facts.I have not read your reasponse huronleaguefootball in less you are responding some blogs anonymous.
Buy em a card, or take out an add and show ur appreciation for them.sometimes i think parents/coaches award mediocraty too much…if you get beat by a winless team then u have NO stars on ur team…good numbers, but no stars…note that the two leading tacklers in the huron league are from the two schools with the worst defenses…both are great players, but they're on defense a lot more then other teams.
Please don't add any Huron players to your list of stars. We know who are stars are and where fine.I just feal bad for the kids that played there hearts out and where left out.WE need to get back to how we where playing in the start of the season and finish strong.
In the past Jim Cameron friday night star well deserved. But team lost by 37 points. And in todays blog you said im sure the Huron kids played hard but i can't list them as haveing any stars because they lost by 20 points?I just saw a pretty good list on your blog but what ever.Huron has been playing like crap this is true and thank you for pointing that out so well in your blog. But you should have spent some of that time reading about some of the kids that played there hearts out.
Easy to say Huron had no stars, u know why? Because they lost 23-3. they have pulled off a collapse unthinkable to what we thought they could do. If you people noticed the stars were from winning teams, and wins are how u define stars unless someone pulls off something amazing, like Welcoski did against SMCC. But otherwise don't complain to hard, if you don't like this league go follow the SEC or Downriver league, and make a blog as good as this. I appreciate this blog, it allows me to stay in touch with Huron League football from Chicago, without it I'd probably be lost. If you don't agree with something that's why you are allowed to post it on here. The only thing bad I can say is that Grosse Ile won't shut up about winds of change, Huron won't shut up about how mighty they are and how hard they play, and we will never stop the endless debate about recruiting vs. class A. Once again, FOOTBALL IS FOOTBALL AND NONE OF THOSE FACTORS MATTER AS MUCH AS HEART, COMMITMENT, GAMEPLAN, OR EXECUTION. But only the true fans get that and that's why we're true fans. Blog creator aka Chris keep it up, I'm addicted to this site
Stop sucking up no one thinks Chris is doing a bad job.Just pushing him for more, knowing chris he desires perfection and gets it.It's not called friday night star teams is it.I like kids to keep playing hard even if there team may be hurting. This is the first time you did the stars the way you did. Many times in the past you have found stars on teams that have been beaten pretty bad.
For the SMCC faithful…
You an go on mhsaa.tv and watch Divine Child vs. Brother Rice. DC is big and talented. They run the shotgun spread with a stud QB. Will be good preparation for teams such as Manchester, Blissfield and Montague come playoff time.
If you don't like the blog maybe you should try one of your own.Chris you are doing a GREAT JOB. Keep up the good work.
I did not list any stars for Huron last night because they lost to a winless team by 20 points at home during their own homecoming game. I'm sure the kids played hard but I can't list them as stars.
Do you think anyone would want to be called a star in a game where they lost by 4 TD's?
I can handle the criticism. After coaching for over 18 years I have learned that you can never satisfy everyone. It didn't matter if you lost a lot of games, won a championship, were hard on the kids or easier on the kids. Somebody always had an opinion that was critical. This is no different.
I have managed to make a few nickels doing this thing so I guess that makes me a professional which means I have to acknowledge the critics. It actually makes this thing a bit more fun.
Weclowski 24 tackles
Wilson 119 yards rushing
Tavtigian 11 tackles 1 int.
Richardson 33 yard field goal.
all according to M.E.N.
Hard to say Huron had NO stars. These boys seemed to play well.
Ali Sadd from Riverview had 208 yards on 32 carries against Huron.
The game was a mud bowl, old fashioned highschool football.
hey listen..this guy does this for the kids/fans/coaches, and people out of town.he does a great job of preparing this, and providing info..THIS IS ALL VOLUNTEER WORK…..Im sure if you provide him with Info he'll add it..appreciate this blog, and appreciate the VOLUNTEER work chris puts in…
Gotta have tough skin doing this sorta thing huh Chris? I think you do a fine job and donate alot of your time and do not deserve any sort of critisism. keep up the great work! Labelle(sp?) played well for Milan… I believe he had around 130 yards on 20-25 carries with a TD… tough lil guy with some shiftiness.
SMCC has a great qb with howey and a great saftey with pannone! Keep it up Falcons!
Proud Fan
leave the guy alone! maybe he isnt on here 24/7 and has a life outside of the blog (which is hands down the best one i have ever seen) if you want to complain about it a little bit more maybe you should start one and see how hard it is yourself. great job HLM and keep it up!
Tough crowd today. I tried to point out some kids from the defensive side of the ball because people have been clamoring for it.
As for leaving 4 of the 8 schools out. There were no Grosse Ile or Riverview stats available from last night's game so I can't give anything on those teams. Nobody from those schools emailed me anything. I guess I could take a wild guess. Huron didn't deserve anybody from last night and I didn't really gather much on Milan from what I read.
I saw the Jefferson/FR game and thought those three really stood out.
If you have some names like you suggested, please put them up. I will post them.
Kind of like the nobel peace prize this year weak.
Whats with the smcc star 13 tackles and a fumble.Great but theres a least 6 or 7 kids that did a lot better then that.If your not going to do a good job reserching who the stars are then don't do it.Your leaveing out kids who died out on that field last night for those who did less.Sorry autor love the blog but we exspect the best from you.Thats why we left mlive.
You must be getting tired of this blog author. Two jefferson two smcc one flat rock one airport.Thats 4 out of 8 schools. The other 4 didn't have any stars.Don't mean to be negative but i really look forward to your blog every day.It seems to be getting weaker every day.I can find 4 stars from the teams you left out by just looking in the paper.Plus some schools you found two stars.
