  1. smcc has about 43 kids on the team and only 13 are seniors i believe. they will have a lot returning next year. on the line there will be collins, burkhard, wilson, calvin mcshane, robby cardella back along with some others.

  2. Sorry I'm bias…I just love the way CCs line plays..hard nose, disipline and always hungry.Best line Ive seen in years. And the backs are just as tough and determaned…where do you start, what do they have 4,5 maybe 6 boys that carry the ball.Awsome…the line just awsome backs awsome,Defence…awsome..good luck to the entire team. You really want me…try a pass or two..O'boy look out. GO CC

  3. Smashed DC last year..right they did. What a difference a year makes.Just like next year,CCs line will be all but one Jr returning.

  4. CC's O Line is good, this week will be a real challenge against a bigger ,faster and stronger DC team.If they keep it close or even win I would think they should go far in the play offs.Turnovers and penalties will make a difference as long as CC keeps their heads they do should do real good.I'm rooting for CC and hope this quiet little O-Line comes out blazing. Hey maybe CC will try a pass or two!…Good Luck CC

  5. Keep telling yourself that, lets give credit where credit is due. The backs are good, but without holes you cant do much. I agree with the guy before this line is way above average.( and young ) Teams know whats coming and still cant stop them week after week. The system and disipline is good, the backs are great and the O-line is even better, without question.Maybeyou should pay more attetion to the line and the holes they create…better than alright.

  6. anonymous, explain, please! how can you say cc's line is just alright. their line totally dominated airport's line that game where SMCC was the underdog and their line was totally undersized compared to airport's. they are undersized everytime they step on field. the closet line to their size is probably jefferon's line. the line and the backs are both great!! if they are just alright, then why has the line opened up 300 or more yards in more than one game this year? u really believe that the 300 yards came from just the backs? one cannot go without the other! both are really good and both make each other better, too!

don't forget about airport's O-line. they are pretty solid as well. look how many yards they have opened up for mays. mays is good and airport's O-line is good! mays doesnt do it all by himself. and smcc's backs do not do it all by themselves either.

  7. I agree the whole O-Line of CC should be the Friday night stars..Cardella is better every game and the middle Burkhart and Collins rule, yes I am a CC fan but I have been around CC football for a long time and I haven't seen an O-Line this soild and to think they are compairably small and most will be back next year, dont be suprised to see some of these boys make All State. These backs are good but with this middle of the line they are great.

  8. I wouldn't say Tom Boxx is overrated he is good, along with Wyclowski ( Huron )Howey,Pennone,Bubkhart and Collins from (CC)all which should be considered for all league & state. These boys bring it week in and week out. It is a joy to watch these boys.Good luck to all of them.

  9. Thanks for the nice comments about Cam Church. He has worked hard to be his best but was bitten by the injury bug…… severe stingers which you can't tape up or put a cast or brace on….you just have to let it heal and you can't hit. He's still dinged a little and only playing at about 90%, but his legs are working fine….so Coach B has fed him the ball a bit more.

Also, what most people don't know is that Cam is a better defender (LB) than running back. He would probably lead GI in tackles today if he would have stayed healthy….and his absence was obvious in the blowout games.

Cam also brings tremendous Senior leadership (he and Dex Teen were the captains) and is a standout student too.

Cam is truely a fine young man….and his younger brother on JV has been known to lay the lumber on people too….watch out HL!

  10. I think all athletes that want to make it to the next level should set goals. I think it’s normal for family members to want their child, nephew, cousin, friend or whatever to do their best or be put in a situation to do their best. They do it all across the states. I also think telling a kid with dreams that they can’t or won’t make it to the next level or has no shot to make it is ridicules and darn right ignorant. You should be ashamed of yourself of the comments you posted against athlete kids that has dreams. You dont know who is reading but it is your opinion and you let it be known. It does take a team effort to win. Every person wants the best for their child, family member or friend… very common.

I think coach is doing a great job. They have allot of talent on the team. Some will get offers from schools and some wont. However I wish the best for ALL kids to fulfill their dreams that the good Lord has for them, on or off the field.

    Go Blue!

  11. well, safe to say smcc is the best team in the league.. hands down. They are fast and smart. Lets hope all HL teams make it far in the playoffs and maybe a state championchip coming out of monroe?

  12. 1st, I’ve said this before, my kids are long gone from the Huron League (Airport), I live in Huron Township and have family kids at SMCC and Milan and am not a coach. I’ll tell you who I am, I’m a fan of the whole league, I’ll bash Tom Box of Milan as being over rated just as quick as anybody else but will also give facts when Tom Box does well. 2nd, Jodeci Mays if a really good running back, he runs hard, fast and doesn’t duck out of bounds when about to get hit. There was a play in the Jefferson game in which he had the chance to step out of bounds on a long run but he cut back inside, blasted a couple of Jefferson defender and gained 8 more yards, almost scored but it was called back because of a hold. It was right in front of me, very impressive, I am the farthest thing from a Jodeci hater, I think he could become an All State Sprinter in track if work ½ as hard at that as he did football. 3rd, for anyone to complain that Jodeci Mays isn’t getting enough carries or playing time has to be related to him and doesn’t understand the value of team. You should be embarrassed about your last post. Goals? Breaking the rushing record is a goal? Selfish goals? Playing time and records. Go cry to the coach for playing time and see how much Jodeci gets after that, Redmond won’t put up with it. The only time he comes out of the game is when the game is when Airport is way up in score, like the rest of the STAR players. I bet he has more playing time then Tyler Pluff on offense? Dylan Balk? Derrik Williams? Airport uses one full back and rotates 4 wing backs till the score racks up and has done it that way for years. Did Earl Schumake complain about playing time?. How bout Jeff Ritter? Any other full back at Airport? Any other TEAM player at Airport? Why would anyone risk getting a player hurt when the score is 35-0? I agree with how Redmond handles his players and their playing time, he is good at that and I'm not a Redmond lover, just wait till playoffs come to see how much I like him then, I wont.

  13. to poster of 9:05pm, oct 17;
ok jodeci is the best back in the league and by far the best back on the team. the only other players i have seen to get touches at FB with first string is 21 and 42 and 42 was just against FR. as for being pulled out of the game, PROTECT YOUR STARS! when you are up on an opponent to get a running clock, there should not be a starter in (in my sportsmanlike opinion). Dont get me wrong, Mays is awesome at what he does, which is RB for the offense, not the defense which is already solid (besides the CC game). keep him fresh for o so points can go on the scoreboard quickly. redmond knows what he is doing!

  14. Yeah… Justasocalledfan. I don't think you were @ all of the games. I don't know what you were looking @ but it wasn't the games. First off you’re not making a lick of sense on some of your points of views on Mayes. You say you can count only a couple of snaps were Mayes hasn't been in on. You can just count them on one hand a..Lol Yeah bubby your a very truthful person. I like guys like you. You’re full of BS most of the time. You also sound like a car sales men or coach..Oops But any who. ..About the O line that your referring too. Yes there good, but it also takes a lot of skills and power to run through guys. Are you with me? Now you’re claiming that it’s the O line that makes Mayes look so good, and next year with an inexperienced O line will be a real test for him. I agree but if the O line is so good now.. When they pull him out after half time or like last game were he did play only for 3 to 4min. Why does he still have the most rushing yds compared to other RBs and WBs that play all 4 quarters of the game coach..Oops Hands downs buddy they should have way more yds then Mayes. If there that good anyone should get through right? I guess the O line just plays to make Mayes look good and no one else. Skills make a player. Oh and for the record. Get it right. A coach can't pad stats, but they can hold you back if you have the skills to accomplish a goal. You have to have skills to beat records. No one will hand it to you. Just be fair across the board. Like you said about Def "you have the best LB so why put him in there. You aren't going to pull one of best LB or CB which he did play one game and got an interception. And have them sit out so he can play. So why would you take your best RB out half way through the game or after 3min of playing time. Resting up for next game and play off!! Yeah feed me more BS mom. Kids have energy for days and heal fast. You don't waste talent or sit on it. You unleash it. So let him rack up all the yards he wants..He just might go to a MAC school. What’s it to you anyways justafan! Team player..Hater.

  15. i was on mlive and people were talking about playoff matchups for smcc, clinton, and blissfield and someone made the comment the he feels smcc is in the best league for D6 teams. all class B schools one Class A school(airport, small class A though) and then smcc who is class C. what does everyone think about that comment? i found it interesting and wanted to hear what everyone thinks

  16. justafan.. Your talking like your a relative yourself (you seem to know everything about him, or you think you do, or maybe Mayes is out shining your boy? or maybe your one of the ones that want to hold him back. I'm not interested in padding his stats. All I want to see is fair playing time. If you say you were at all these games.. I say to you "OPEN YOUR EYES"!! The last 2 games he was pulled out early and last game he was pulled out when the first string was in. Keep you eyes off the freakin cheer leaders and on the game.

  17. Just reflecting back on this football season so far…I want to send a thank you out to all our youth junior league coaches. I know lots of these Huron League athletes we enjoy watching under the lights on Friday nights got their start playing for the Yellow Jackets or Junior Devils or CYO football…So kudos to all the junior league coaches for getting these "Friday Night Stars" off to a great start and teaching the fundamentals of football.

  18. I would assume the offensive guy would be Jodeci Mays.

Defensively I would guess Pannone, Lovell or Weclowski.

All State? It depends on how they do it (divisions or class). I always put stock in the AP poll.

If it is divisions I would say guys like Pannone, Burkhardt and Collins in Div VI. Teen may have a shot in Div IV. Cameron has huge numbers for Div IV. Other than that, maybe Mays in Div. III. Weclowski has the numbers at LB but won't get any love because his team's defense wasn't any good.

The Free press and News don't do anything but All State Teams. You may see some kids in there.

  19. yeah, really, Dad or Uncle or Mays himself?… your post about Mayes doesn’t make allot of sense but to say you want Redmond to pad Mayes’ stats. Instead of resting his starters, get them healthy for the next game and playoffs and feed into 1 player?!?!?!? Nice team concept. Do you want him to play defense? Why would you do that? Airport has the best linebacker core in the league, maybe next year. I’ve seen every game this year of Airports and can only count a few snaps, when the starters are on the field, which Mayes hasn’t been in. He does not rotate like the wing backs, he’s the full back all the time. The only time he has been out of the game is when he goes for a long run and is too tired to keep going. Get a couple things straight – A) Mayes is an awesome high school player, he runs hard, is very fast and plays behind a really good offensive line and if he played for SMCC, Milan, Monroe or Ypsilanti he would probably score every time he touched the ball. He wouldn’t start on a team like Chelsea, Adrian, Ann Arbor Pioneer or Melvindale. Next year, with an inexperienced line, let’s see how he does. B) He is not big enough or strong enough to play in a top division 1 college program, he may be good enough for a MAC school, NAIA, or divison2-3 school or something like that but he’s not going to Michigan or Indiana or UCLA, so he can rack up all the yards he wants, its not going to help him at the next level. Now track is a different story, if he worked ½ as hard as he did at track that he does at football he would be an all state sprinter and would attract tons of colleges.

  20. Chris who do you think will be the opoy and dpoy now that the league games are over. And do you think anyone from the huron league will be all state and if yes who? Also I have a question does the free press rank the top 50 or 100 seniors after the season or did they already do it before the season started? Thanks, great blog.

  21. Jodeci Mays ran for 153 yards and 2 touchdowns. That’s great considering the fact he only played about 3-4min tops the whole game. Look.. We all know he's already a great RB for Airport. The Airport All-time top performers Derek Anderson (1999) 1,836 record would've been crushed by now if it wasn't for Coach Eric Redmond playing him part time or like last night 3min. The only game he kept him in the whole game was SMCC because there is no one else who can plow through guys like him and if you think you don’t need him your wrong period. The game would be the same without a strong RB. You have guys that play the whole game dual positions every single game. Why would you have one of your stronger players standing on the freaking sideline the whole game? If you’re going to fair, be fair across the board with switching guys out. You have players like 21, 22, 8, 7 and more who are good but Mays is just as good if not better. This is high school football right? Not some lil league BS where all the kids should get a chance to play. The next step up from here is college level and how in the world can you play college level football only playing part time or 3min. If you a have a great weapon like Mays you use it. Not just when you have hard games and you need a mule to take the blows and on easy games you put in the stable.

  22. Fan Who Attended the Game

    from the jefferson smcc game,
    JEFFERSON
    Sterling- for defense And Offense
Sharkus- for Offense rean veryyy hard didnt go down on first contact.
    Leonard- 10 tackles
McCullough- Workhorse and had 83 yards.
    SMCC
Qualley- Int. in own zone and 8 tackles for the Shutout.
Howey-106 yds and has great 3rd down runs
Pannone- Leading tackler and shutout on defense
SMCC's O line- another game with 300+ rushing yards. the boys still get it done even though teams know they are going to run it

  23. I think the smcc line would be a great nomination as a whole. All played extremely well last night with there big win over Jefferson. Without their line smcc would have no holes to make their running game effective.
