The season is fast approaching. I will not be blogging this year. Quite frankly, I have just lost interest. I will most likely post scores every Friday. I will spend most Friday nights over at Huron watching the Chiefs and will be sure to see my boy Tommy O coach my Alma Mater Flat Rock.
It should be an interesting race this season. It seems like most everyone in the league will be be better with the exception of a couple teams but that may not result in better records. Here are my thoughts right now for team records in alphabetical order.
Airport 7-2
Flat Rock 3-6
Grosse Ile* 2-6
Unsure of Week 9 opponent
Huron 4-5
Jefferson 4-5
Milan 2-7
Riverview 7-2
SMCC 6-2*
Unsure of Week 1 opponent
This should give people something to talk about. Have at it.
The system at Milan is still evolving. There were big changes last year, but I don't know if the new OC's approach is a logical extension of last year's offense or a new direction altogether. If it's completely different, that's 3 systems in 3 seasons. A number of league schools have had the same system for years, with varsity players having learned the same offense in their youth leagues. My guess is that Milan may have their moments, but it may take a while for the kids to know the offense inside and out and perform consistently. Milan fan here, so I hope I'm wrong.
#7 for Airport is the best player in the league. Shutdown corner that likes to hit people and should be Potcova's main target at WR. He very well might be the best QB in the league if not for Potcova.
Who do we have as top 10 returning players?
Kish from GI is heading to Wayne State. Berardi from GI is heading to Ferris.
Have any of last years players go on and play ball in college?
I am giving Huron League coaches fair warning: when you play Airport don't let your QB throw at #7, good chance it will be 6 points the other way. EM
Yeah Coach Ward ( Milan's OC) knows what he's doing. Definitly a better year than last. Milan just had two good 7 on 7 scrimmiadges vs Erie Mason and Divine Child.
The view had a lot of graduation last year and they were able to sneak up on people cuz no one expected them to be as good as they were. That wont happen this year. They lost their senior QB 2WR and almost their entire starting lines on both sides of the ball. I expect them to go 6-3 realistically. But wouldnt be surprised to see them go any where from 4-5 to 7-1. They have a tremendous stable of backs that should keep them in games with ball control and defense. They didnt lose as much ondefense as they did on offense.
Milan has a new offensive coordinator from Pioneer who really knows what he's talking about. I expect them to at least get more than 2 wins.
I agree with 10:47 poster for the most part. I think most will have similar records from last year except CC and GI. I doubt CC will have a 2nd straight down year and GI's heavy graduation losses will be too much to overcome. Airport-Riverview could be for the league once again. EM
I see GI as the 3rd best team in the league. Airport and View are the top dogs. I dont see the others getting much better then last year. The league should mirror last year.
GI lost key players to graduation. But they also gained the majority of the players from a dominant 9-0 JV team. They also had many key sophomore and Junior starters last year. I do not think as a team they will be better then last year, that team played together for a long time and had a 4 yr QB and many 3 year starters leave, but as talent goes…. LOOK OUT! Ask anyone that saw that JV team last year. It almost seemed like they scored at will.
HOWEVER… If they cant put together an offensive line it will be a long year for their new QB.
Will you be back in 2013?
Grosse Ile will be 5-4 this year. They're young with much talent on its way up.
Since you won't be running your site, if you know anyone who wants to contribute information on the league, which would be published. Have them contact me and I'll allow them to publish stuff on our site.
Thanks
The changes Hoskins has made, will make them tons better- thats why 6-3
Whats so good over at Milan for them to go 6-3 ? I tend to lean more towards the 2-7 prediction with maybe another win or two
Btw thanks for bloggin Chris, it's been fun. EM
Airport's first 2 games (at Adrian & at Riverview) may very well be it's 2 toughest games. I'm sure CC will be back in the hunt this year and i'm curious to see if Jefferson can build on its huge upset of Bedford. EM
Milan is going to be 6-3.
Well GI just picked up Detroit HFCS for week 9. That will give the Red Devils another win and makes my prediction 3-6. HFCS is a first year program that will have seniors for the first time this year.
Coincidently, GI went to the semis back in 2004ish and went 4-5 the next season.
Flat Rock has a couple of new people playing one i think is from woodhaven and the other i think from a prep school in detroit
Sorry to hear that you will not be doing the blog this year. It was fun to read and comment, but I understand the work and committment that it must take to keep it going. Thanks for doing it in past seasons, it was fun.
I enjoyed watching GI make their run last season but I think they overachieved a little bit and suffered heavy graduation losses. I don't know who their week 9 opponent is so they may have another win.
Wow that would be a major step back for the Islanders. EM
Sorry to hear about you not blogging this year. Always interested on your take. How about just doing the predictions? Give the rest of us something to argue about.
Hope you get over the malaise. Thanx for at least keeping the site up.
Cant believe that you have GI falling so far. They make the semi finals last year and only winning 2 games this year?. I would put them as a solid #3 in the league and making the playoffs again.
