Huron League Thoughts and Questions

Looks like SMCC might be back.

Milan is a better team with Justin Aceves back in the line up.

When was the last time Airport lost that bad?

Flat Rock has now won two in a row over Jefferson.

Should you go for two to win the game? Absolutely!

I think a one loss team will most likely win the league championship.

Can Grosse Ile and Airport rebound? One will, one won’t

Will Riverview make the playoffs?

State sucked last night.

  1. I agree that Friday nights should be sacred. I am not sure if there is some sort of minimal standard for illumination for safely playing a sport.
I know there are standards for illumination for working tasks and it is measured in footcandles of illumination.
I am sure Giarmo would be happy to turn the lights off to run his offense. However, SMCC has a basic responsibility to provide a safe playing area for players "AND FANS"

  2. Just a different feeling playing on Saturdays. Nothing like the hype of Friday night. Its part of high school football. The lights are fine. Lil dim sure but good enough. I've played on Saturdays and it's just not the same. If you wanna play on Saturdays, make it to your semi final game.

  3. Great point. A Saturday day game would be a great experience. Why not try it?

But theirs is an offense dependent partly on deception. Low lights, black gloves…all part of their home field advantage. If their coaches thought it was to their disadvantage, they would have changed years ago, right coaches?

  4. SMCC used to play their varsity games on Saturday nights back in the 70's. Monroe High and MCC both used Navarre at that time for football, baseball and track.

  5. You are right, they should. I don't believe, however, that they can pass a millage in Monroe to fund a private school's field. If you suggest private donors, I might ask you to pick up a copy of The Wall Street Journal and see if someone should be risking money right now.

  6. Monroe Public Schools owns/maintains/controls the lights at Navarre Field, so maybe you should take up the lights comment with them…trust me, a lot of SMCC fans would love working lights and scoreboard.

  7. Milan is already in control of their own destiny.

Each week their opponents have gotten progressively tougher.

Grosse Ile was a formidable opponent. They kept coming back. They will win most of their games. That game prepared Milan a lot.

Milan's D has done extremely well against traditional offenses.

SMCC has had their number for years. Let's see what the coaches bring to this game.

I doubt SMCC has what it takes to both shut down Milans O and score a lot on their D.

It is going to be a battle. Hope it's clean. And may they actually turn on the lights at that stadium. Full power, please!!

  8. Chris-State doesn't have the QB they had last year either. Weeks ago I agreed that State was gonna win again this year but after watching the QB play I have to think Michigan wins this year.

I think you meant parity (equivalence) and not parody (ridiculous imitation)… although some may differ in their opinion. You made me lol!

I was in a hurry. I knew it was wrong but didn't tatke the time to fix it, LOL!.

And, it's possible that both definitions could be considered accurate this season, again LOL!

  11. With all due respect to the Milan boys, you have to admit with exception of the GI game, they haven't exactly played "the powerhouses" of the league yet. Now before anybody gets an attitude, Milan may well end up being the powerhouse of the league. But their gonna have to prove it beyond beating up on 3 down programs before everyone starts singing their praises. If they can beat SMCC then I'm in for league champs as they would be in the drivers seat. Otherwise they'll make the playoffs but I don't see them taking the league.

A lot of football left this season and the league appears to have a lot of parody between teams. Champs may not be determined until the last week of the season, even with that it'll probably end up with Co-Champs, possibly a three way.

  12. Well…I happen to think Michigan will beat Notre dame but how does that differ from last season? State will beat Michigan and hopefully go to the B1G title game again and once again have the better team.

  13. If Milan beats CC they will get the credit they deserve. After watching the execution of CC's offense and defense I just can't see Milan winning this game. But whoever does win will more than likely share the League title with Airport/GI winner. Chris after Michigan beats Notre Dame this weekend you will realize just how bad State is. Hard for State to win when they don't score!

    1. I don't think anyone has seen both teams play besides Grosse Ile.

      Let's have them chime in.

You beat SMCC. You lost to Milan.

      What say you guys?

  14. I voted for the game of the week Milan-vs-SMCC, being a Milan alum, I was wondering what it would take as well for them to "be for real" … Maybe I'm partial, I think they may have the best defense in the league. And they move the ball well, out scoring their opponents so far this year 34-11 / game. But yes they still have the thick of their schedule, this week will show alot about Milan, that being said … Go Big Reds!

  15. Why is there no faith in Milan? I truly believe if they were undefeated and won the Huron League people would still say, "I'm still not sure if Milan is for real." What is it going to take for people to believe they are for real?

  16. Look at the scores of all 4 of the airport games. They just arent as good as we thought they were gonna be for whatever reason. GI should take this game.

  17. If SMCC executes the way they did against Airport they will not lose another game. They looked great! However Airport will rebound and win this week against GI. This game is for the Co-Huron League Championship.

  18. Thanks for the support for Milan-SMCC as the next AnnArbor.com game of the week.

Seeing as Milan can't even get coverage for a home game against a state-ranked opponent, we Big Reds fans will take any publicity we can get!

  20. Aipiort lost 35-7 to Bedford last season and was destroyed by Thurston two years ago. Melvindale hammered them a few years ago 42-7.

  21. Jefferson vs Huron !! I think last weeks performance for both teams says it all. If your looking for a sleeper come join me. We're is the pride at for these kids? Don't they know football is about life. The things I learned on the field helps me in my work today.

  22. I understand your thoughts on the 2 pointer but you just made a comeback on the road. One play wins the game if you execute. I stay go for the win and thought it was the right call.

  23. I felt at the time it was wrong for Huron to go for two at that time. They owned Riverview in the second half and was able to stop them and had their way with them on defense. I said at the time, this is a mistake. They should force overtime and try to take it then.

Airport will rebound. GI will too. Regardless of what happens this week. After this week, Airports next three games are wins. GI will win at least 3 of it's last 4 games. Both will be in the playoffs.

Milan will lose at least 2 of their last 5 games, maybe 3. So they should make the playoffs but I don't see them winning the league.

Riverview probably won't make the playoffs. They just can't seem to finish off an opponent. Can't get a stop on 3rd down to get the D off the field when they need to. And with the game on the line for all their success early in games they can't seem to get a first down when they need to to keep the ball. I saw them losing 3 out of the Airport, SMCC, GI and Consortium. Now that they've lost to Jefferson their going to have to beat two teams they weren't expected to beat in order to get there. Hope I'm wrong but they've gotta be able to stop and/or cover somebody.
