  1. Please refrain from using names on here for the grade school kids. I am the father of one of these kids and when I found out his name was being plastered on here I was pi$$ed. Honostly, I personaly don't think my son has played all that well. Let him prove himself and make his own name. I am sure there are many other boys that are doing the same thing. I don't need my son reading or hearing that somebody / people are praising him on some mom and pop blog. So as a father please do not mention the kids by name. Besides, its only eighth grade football and they have not proven anything to me. Talk about the boys that are busting their rears on the varsity teams instead of some grade school kids. This is just amazing. Also, I think my sons last name has been mispelled each time it has been posted !

  2. This is hilarious. All the predictions of future talent. Its a whole new level in high school. Kids that are big now, will not ssem so big in high school. Kids that are fast now, will not seem so fast in high school. Plus kids change and move schools all the time. When the time comes, we will see who has what. I guess its fun to explore the possibilities.

Hopefully, different teams continue to have success and keep the parity going. Its better for all of us.

  3. mahalak will go to culver like all his brothers. We get it St. charles has some players. no need to log on as different people to get your point across.

  4. As a SMCC fan I just want to say to Milan good job and good luck. represent the Huron league like the champs that you are. This goes to prove that the paper and predictions mean nothing. Your season is a great story and lesson for all. The bottom line is you still have to play the game on the field. I was in such a football mode this weekend I actualy went and seen my first CYO game just to see what some of the previous posts were about. The St. Charles and St. Mary's game was very exciting. I watched for the three big kids that were mentioned a few weeks ago from St. Charles and wow was I impressed. Laplant and Laprad made some very nice plays and the blocked extra point was awesome. The other big kid Lizzyness will not get the acklowledgement of the other two but this kid was being double and tripple teamed and he still made it impossable to run up the middle. St. Marys aldo had a vey nice player in # 5 ( Mihalak ). Fun to watch. Wished I was watching these boys all season. And the good thing is these boys are going to SMCC from what I hear.

    1. You should go to Navarre field saturday morning and watch those games. A lot of talent in that league. Fast runningbacks, QB that is fast and throws a good ball. Lineman that's 6ft 2 weighs 220. All these kids are 4th-6th grade.

  5. If Milan can run the ball and pass the ball like they did against Airport they will go far in playoffs. The better teams have to be balanced come playoffs. Good luck once again.

  6. Barber was way more than a coach for the kids. He was a coach, mentor, and friend to all of them. Just remember they're all still kids. I think they could have done better with Barber but would not have beaten Milan. It's hard to compare the 2 QB's in this game. Potcova was getting major pressure and hit on almost every attempt. Not taking anything away from Milan QB either-obviously he's good with a great offensive line. Congrats to Milan and good luck in playoffs! Great season.

  7. Lots of talk about the coaching situation being the cause of this mess at Airport. Short answer is that its a bigger deal than parents initially thought. But life isn't always fair..kids only have one senior season and they need to be competitive against tecumseh.

  8. Hats off to the Airport kids. I know they have had a rough season. They worked hard. They were walking out next to me and I don't think their heads could have been any lower and not a peep out of any of them. My heart went out to them. I can't imagine losing your head coach at the beginning of a season. Stay tough guys and take out Tecumseh next week.

  9. from AnnArbor.com:

Milan put up more than 500 total yards of offense in its Friday night win over Carleton Airport, and only 125 of them were gained by Arthur Dukes.

No, the Big Reds are not a one-trick pony.

Dukes, the area’s leading rusher, came into the game with three straight 200-yard games, accounting for large portions of the offense for much of the season.

But Friday night, Milan’s potent offense was a display of versatility. The Big Reds ran for 388 yards and threw for 180. They featured two backs who ran for more than 100 yards — Robert Kanitz had 146.

    The 180 passing yards marked a season-high, as did Kanitz’s 146.

“We feel like we can do both, we just take what the defense gives us,” Milan coach Jesse Hoskins said. “We don’t really go into a game planning to pass more or less or run more or less. We want to establish our offense, and we feel like we’re just going to take what the defense gives us.”

Kanitz was the only Milan player with multiple touchdowns. Austin Hoover and Devin Miller caught touchdown passes from Justin Aceves. Dukes and Dylan Brant also recorded scores.

But the uptick in the passing game was where the Big Reds branched out the most. Hoskins said Carleton Airport came into the game looking to limit Lawrence Williams, Milan’s leading receiver.

Williams was held without a catch, but the Big Reds still managed their biggest passing game of the year.

Aceves had a simple explanation for it.

“We just did what we had to do,” Aceves said.

A display of versatility bodes well, as Milan ends its play the run-heavy Huron League and moves on to a finale against Lincoln, followed by the playoffs.

“We work on so much every day in practice that we’ve been working on things we haven’t done,” Hoskins said. “When we need them, we’ll run them.”

  10. Defensive player of the year for the Huron League. Milan player #49. Playing all leaskague games with a broken right hand. Numerous sacks. Numerous tackles. 2 defensive touchdowns. Tackles. Etc. Wait till the cast is off in the playoffs. Ask Qb from airpport. Did he experience the pressure or what?

  11. The Milan prediction was based on the fact that they were not very good at all last season. Next year they will be pick lower because they graduate a lot and there won't be much of a junior class to provide depth. I will say right now my top two league teams next season will be Grosse Ile and SMCC.

    1. It is not to say that Potcova is better /worse Aceves. However offensive line performancepot is a must. With that said Aceves accuracy at 10 of 13 speaks for itself. Potcova over threw many attempts. Defensive line pressure from Milan #49,28 and 42to made for a long game. Aceves is accurate and mobile. Airport plays without team spirit. Top to bottom.

    2. Congratulations to the Milan Big Reds. Way to go!!! Coaching, senior leadership, tenacity, desire and a group of unstoppable talent with character . Watch. The Lord will bless the humble. GO BIG REDS MACHINE! !!!!!!!!!!

  12. Every year it appears that most predictions are based on the previous years performance. So naturally AP and View were expected to do well. Interestingly GI was hardly mentioned in the pre-season conversations this year even though they went the farthest in the playoffs.

Milan will probably be next years favorites based on this years performance. But depending on whose program matures the most and has the most upper classmen on it will more than likely be the programs to watch.

Good Luck to everyone in their last games. Good Luck to all Huron League Seniors. Most will be retiring after next week so play your last game like it is your last game. Let's see if we can get a Huron league sweep from ALL teams against non-conference foes.

For the playoff teams, you represent us all. We're with you so make a statement and remind them what Huron League Football is about.

  13. Airport is awful yet they are still 5-3, I think that speaks volumes for the state of the league. Nice to see Flat Rock put an end to the two game losing streak to archrival Huron.

  14. There seems to be a lot of positive on the blog this week, until 11:16 showed up. Jefferson had a rough season for a variety of reasons which you do not know about. Jefferson will be much better next year for a varity of reasons you do not know about. I know what school your from, we will see you next year and I will be writing the same blog about your school.

  15. Yes Milan sure surprised most everyone this season, myself included. What a difference a year makes because they were easily the worst team in the league last season.

    Congrats to Milan!

    1. Coach o f the league at Jesse Hoskins. Turn around not. Players want it and get it. Incredible assistant staff. All comes together. It is a perfect storm. They will go deep in the playoffs.

  16. I kept my Monroe Evening News pigskin preview just to see which coaches had the best pre-season gauge on the upcoming season:

Oestrike (FR): AP as the favorite with SMCC and RV contending and Milan as a surprise team.

Kalbfleisch (H): AP and RV are the favorites with SMCC to challenge.

Cisco (J): RV will be the real team to be reckoned with.

Hoskins (M): AP and RV the favorites w/ SMCC and GI as teams to watch.

Giarmo (SMCC): AP, RV and Jeff as the top teams in a competitive league race.

    Congrats to Milan.

  17. So the age old question on final ranking with three teams in the league with one win (assuming GI beat Riverview … but still waiting for a score). In the three games between Huron, Riverview and Jefferson, the PF and PA differential totals are:

    Huron +33
    Riverview -9
    Jefferson -24

That is the way I see it. Sorry Jefferson, except for the beating you took at Huron, you might have been the best underdog in the league … just ask Airport and SMCC. Good luck at Bedford.

    1. Milan was picked dead last in the Huron League at the start of the season. It appears that they are probably the best underdog after this turn around.

  18. East English, Chelsea, Tecumseh, st. Clair and Abondale are all very good other than OLSM on the east side of D3. Milan will find it tough.

  19. Good job Milan. What a turn around from last year. I hope the Airport AD and coaching staff can and will learn from your success. Good coaches at Airport, now its time for some changes. The Airport program has imploded with its troubles and it showed tonight going up against a tough opponent.

  20. Congrats to Milan on a outright league title. They have a chance to make some serious noise in the playoffs for as long as they can avoid OLSM. EM

  21. Good to see Jefferson show up strong in their rivalry game. I'm sure they would have rather won, but it sounds like they showed up ready to play.

  22. Awesome Jefferson-SMCC game. Close till 4th quarter then SMCC went up 28-12. But, with under 4 min left, Jefferson scored 2 quick TD's and recovered 2 onside kicks in a row. Down to SMCC 30 on final drive with less than a minute and Grancitelli threw an INT. Great game, fun to watch. Huron league football at its best.

  23. Think its time for the "doubters" to step up….eat some crow…..and show some love to your 2012 UNDEFEATED HURON LEAGUE CHAMPIONS…..THE MILAN BIG REDS! They deserve as much after some of the posts I have read on here.
