In his senior season of 2000, Sproles rushed for 2, 485 yards and 49 touchdowns. Oh, and led his team to the Kansas 6A (our D1) state title. I can definately see the comparison!
From a Riverview Parent – Don't under estimate #22 from View. His ambition and heart will take him to play football somewhere. His GPA will do the rest. This young man will succeed. "Darren Sproles" made it to the NFL, he's only 5'6".
Josh Smith reminds me a lot of Casey Steffan who played at Flat Rock a decade ago. He went on to play at Northwood.. Smith is slightly faster than Steffan was but also somewhat smaller. Steffan had the winner intangible (2 time wrestling state champ) which I don't know if Smith has (only because I don't know him). He seems to be a workhorse type kid, which is exactly what Steffan was. Certainly a nice quality to have.
Josh Smith is a very talented young athlete but…….he is going to have to grow about 4" in height (not likely) and put on at least 30lbs (again not likely) to even be considered at a Wayne State (div II) or even Eastern (div I).
Josh Smith does not have the size to make it big,I think he's like 5'9 and like 165 maybe. I say if he gets on a weight gaining program over this winter and early spring, he could go D2 like Wanye State, possibly Eastern if his stats continue to improve.
SMCC v Milan- DEFENSE! It is difficult to compare both games against GI because the team had to make drastic changes after SMCC. Both teams were effective going uo the middle with the loss of Gillam. Moving the line around with less than a week proved to be a problem in Monroe. The same goes for Milan, but in this case, they were pulling good defensive players to use as QB, and the line was shuffled again. Gi's defense is very good when all are healthy, but with 19 players, small changes really affected the outcome. Pulling Judd to play QB instead of McCarty was the right move, but all too late. A great pass and a tough catch avoided as shut out just before half. Gi had no chance with a running game. Defense will be the key in these two powerhouse running teams. Passing will make the difference. Both teams have watched previous film so some style and surprises will need to be on the menu to win.
Smith from riverview is absoutely unreal/unbelievable. He has 750+ yards and 13 touchdowns in 5 games, and he seems to be immune to injuries. He plays with pain and still is a site to see. Think he could make it big Chris?
I'm so glad I checked out the blog tonight! It just makes me laugh! You clowns are clueless and I love it! Thank you for the much needed break from reality!
Seen both and Milan will win. Again if your kids hurt stop talking about him being an anchor on GI! Instead talk about the kids out there still playing and busting their butts!
@12:10 am How do we rate Milan vs SMCC. Milan much better. SMCC was in pouring rain with QB out and no one to come in who had had any reps. I would say Milan is MUCH better. They can run, pass and make adjustments. SMCC a one trick pony. (granted that trick is a good one) But, if the weather removes the pass threat, then SMCC gains a huge advantage with their ground game.
Yes 12:10a.m I to would like to know what GI fans think about he the Milan and SMCC match up since they have played both they have better insight then the rest of us. Is it going to be a close game worth going to watch or a blow out
Being from milan myself, the boys know this is going to be an awesome matchup with a tough team and will be their hardest game of the season yet so believe me when I say that their gonna put everything out on the field next friday. Not gonna make a prediction though..lol
Riverview fan here…… Huron, hard to believe that they're 1-4. Probably the best 1-4 team I've ever seen. Program has come a long way since I was growing up in the 80's and 90's.
In this league you have to show up and play every game. Just about every team is going to bring it for 48 minutes. Riverview- Huron game proved that. Could have went either way. Instant classic.
I was at the Flat Rock game and the fact that it was Homecoming did not matter. Jefferson's first play was a simple couple yard pass, and the receiver took it 30-40 yards and barely missed a TD. The play was designed to only get 5-8 if done correctly. That is when I realized it was going to be a LONG game.
I don't know what else to say about Flat Rock. We are NEVER big enough to take on these teams. Jefferson's end #50 was HUGE, and our biggest tackle didn't stand a chance. I haven't been to the Middle School games this year, so I have no idea if there is some talent on the way.
Airport put up a good fight against a tough team. SMCC made more mistakes in that game then they have all season. I wish Airport could have done something with that to make it a better game. SMCC defense was tough.
As stated before, Huron/View game was the best/most entertaining game that I've seen in almost all levels of football. I tend to just sit back and watch at games, but this one had me at the edge of my seat. Great effort by both teams tonight. Huron showed great life in their game…Riverview showed that they know how to win tough games. 22 for View has unbelievable speed…huge part of their W tonight.
Riverview-Huron was the craziest 3 minutes ever…Huron has a great bunch of athletes but as long as the coach stays they will be "same ol Huron"…cant find any assistants that haven't been a part of the longest losing streak in high school football in the country? Oh by the way coach dont kick to #22 he is pretty good.
There were some bad calls. View must have had 200 yards in penalties. Tough to tell on a couple of holding calls but the personal fouls I thought were legit. Nothing dirty just tough hard hitting football plays; one was OB hit and the other was up high on Huron's Eli Scott. I wouldn't cry about it if I won the game. I thought Stergalas crossed the line a bit with the officials but nothing crazier than myself while coaching hoops. Just passion coming from a coach that was into the game.
On another note, I thought Huron's Dan Kalbfleisch called a great offensive game. It was nice to see the Chiefs score some points. Riverview's Josh Smith was unbelievable. He did absolutely everything.
View fans bickering of officiating is VALID. Been watching H S football for 40 years. Game is an instant classic. Huron did fight to finish, but let's face it — VIew made no in game adjustments with secondary, that's coaching. Huron can show you many offensive looks and their coaches do a beautiful job.
Josh Smith went 70 yards (26-20 view) on the first play after Huron had just scored. Huron went down the field scored on a 28 run by Ian Robinson (30-26 Huron) I believe. On the kickoff Josh Smith took a short kick and went 65 yards for a TD (33-30 View). On Huron's first play from scrimmage Tyler Olsen caught a 68 TD (37-33 Huron) catch and run from Eli Scott. Riverview got the ball back and went 65 yards and scored on a 3rd down play from 28 yards out when Kroll scrambled and found a receiver in the end zone (40-37 View) with 20 seconds left. Huron went down the field and lined up for a 33 FG with 0.9 seconds left. It was blocked but View was whistled for penalty. Lined up for 22 yard FG, blocked again. Riverview offside. Lined up for what amounted to an extra point and View blocked it again. Crazy, crazy, crazy.
Lindeman has a slight concussion but should be good to go next week. He only played the first quarter and still ended up with over 100 yards rushing and 1 td. Milan's D showed up and played awesome! Overall Milan is a solid team with lots of talent.
Sad to see that even with a Win, View fans still are bickering about officiating.. I think the Refs of the game were more than fair about every call they made.. Just so happened Riverview was on the wrong side of the flag.
This was honestly the best game I've ever seen; crazy back to back TDs in the 4th quarter, and Huron was setup perfectly for a FG that came up blocked. Tonight looked like a different group of boys on that field and I'm proud of everyone of them for going til the whistle. That was a team. Kalby saw what his team is capable of, and I surely see Huron finishing off 5-4 for the season. Heads up boys, it was a damned good game.
A shameful job by officials in riv-Huron game. Most lopsided to favor Huron. Let the kids determine the outcome. This crew should never officiate another game, ever. That said, both teams left everything they had on the field.
I saw some sort of broadcasting truck there at the game. I'm not sure what for but I couldn't believe that game. I have never seen anything like it. It may end up on ESPN instant classics.:)
Wish the Huron – View game could have been broadcast somehow. Sounds wild and fun.
Here is some analysis on Milan v. GI:
Milan just marched down into the end-zone almost at will. A lot of good runs inside and out–the freshman running back got a lot of yards. He is a very fine running back.
Some short passes turned into good yardage.
It was a mediocre night for Kanitz in the passing department, otherwise things would have been worse for GI.
It was 28-0 until just before half Milan threw an interception and GI got the ball and put it in the end-zone.
GI looked deflated and helpless to stop the bleeding until the end of the half score. Then they came out motivated and drove down to the Milan 20 and looked like they might score, but Milan D stopped them on a 4th down.
GI had a few good runs and completed a number of passes for yardage–a nice long pass completion in the end-zone. But other than that their offense sputtered. Kind of expected that with a new QB running the O. Of course they missed Mitroka. But what happened to their D?
None of us expected that Milan would just roll through the GI defense like that.
Milan's run attack, combined with effective passing makes them tough to defend.
**Most impressive other stuff: the GI student section and band win the spirit award. Those kids were good! and having a lot of fun. Even in the 4th quarter they were cheering and singing and making a lot of noise. How'd they get so many kids in band? Must have some good leadership there.
Milan student section was not out tonight.
An impressive showing by Milan's football team though–they definitely did show up.
Jefferson looked very good. I understand it was Flat Rock, but still, it was a great effort. No turnovers, 1 penalty. Great job. 35-0 at half. Hopefully this will jumpstart Jefferson, all around good effort. Good Luck Flat Rock, way to still have great spirit on your homecoming night. Things will get better, you had some bright spots.
Are you talking about the two non pass interference calls against Riverview in the 1st quarter or the obvious late hit out of bounds, the face mask in the 4th and head hunting high hit on Huron's QB? Riverview won the game fair and square, they made one more play than Huron. There were some bad calls but your coach looks like Jim Schwartz out there with an undisciplined team that obviously follows his lead. Hats off to the Riverview kids for playing better than their coach. He is just lucky that Huron's AD grabbed him and stopped him from doing something stupid after his team just won the game.
Airport had 2 good scoring chances in the 1st half but came away with nothing. CC did what they normally do, ball control and solid defense. Looks like we have a big showdown next week in Milan. Congrats on Jefferson getting its 1st win. Looks like Riverview escaped New Boston in a wild game. EM
In his senior season of 2000, Sproles rushed for 2, 485 yards and 49 touchdowns. Oh, and led his team to the Kansas 6A (our D1) state title. I can definately see the comparison!
Ya sproles made it why not smith? Totally logical.

9:51 am-GI person what the heck are you saying? Making no sense what so ever.

CC is waaaayyy too small to beat a good team. Not sure how they beat Huron.
Milan 35 CC 14
Great Prediction
Ya Milan kills CC! Even if Mitroka played the 1st half like he did vs CC, Milan still beats GI bad!
Seen both and Milan will win. Again if your kids hurt stop talking about him being an anchor on GI! Instead talk about the kids out there still playing and busting their butts!
CC's defense will be the difference vs Milan.

2:29. Where did u read about how cocky and arrogant riverviews kids are. I'd love to see a site that rips on players. Sounds like a bitter Huron fan.

Sounds like a poor Huron offense was able to find the endzone this week against a poor Riverview defense

Milan v SMCC…here we come.
Chris, yes Smith was great, but #11 Glime had 2 tds & over 100 yds receiving by the way, plus an int! Caught all critical passes including last td.
I am new to this area and league. I have to agree coaching here at Huron, is not that good
Where can you get such entertainment for $5. HURON LEAGUE FOOTBALL
Get the tape of RIV v HURON game if you weren't there. !!!
Congrats to Jefferson's Bruce Pickens for his first varsity win at Jefferson.
I agree, GI has depth issues. A few injuries can devastate a team that size, especially to those two.
GI has lost their 2 anchors to injuries, without Gillam and Mitroka we are seeing a different team!
There were some bad calls. View must have had 200 yards in penalties. Tough to tell on a couple of holding calls but the personal fouls I thought were legit. Lined up for what amounted to an extra point and View blocked it again. Crazy, crazy, crazy.
3 blocks? Ouch. Special teams strikes again!!
Anything on Airport SMCC?
So, GI players, how do you rate both SMCC and Milan sice you've played both?
Grosse ile is just deflated without a good quarterback
Chris…your take on the officials at the Huron/Riverview game?
Lindeman has a slight concussion but should be good to go next week. He only played the first quarter and still ended up with over 100 yards rushing and 1 td. Milan's D showed up and played awesome! Overall Milan is a solid team with lots of talent.
" 4 TD's and 3 blocked FG's in the last 2.29 sec. Three TD's on consecutive plays."
How is that even possible? on kick offs? long passes?
do post any links for highlights if they come out.

Trace Lindeman looked fine when he left the game, but when anyone knows something about his possible concussion, please post.
He sure is fun to watch run with the ball.
Hope it is nothing.
Lindeman was checked out I heard and all was ok so he'll be there for the game next week against smcc.
I saw some sort of broadcasting truck there at the game. I'm not sure what for but I couldn't believe that game. I have never seen anything like it. It may end up on ESPN instant classics.:)

Wow Chris. Thats crazy !!! EM
Officals at Huron tonight tried their best to give Huron the game but it didn't help. Great game to watch. Fans on Hurons side were very entertaining.
Neutral Fan
The Huron-Riverview game had the WORST officiating I have ever witnessed in a high school football game!!
EM
2:29
4 TD's and 3 blocked FG's in the last 2.29 sec. Three TD's on consecutive plays.
Riverview/Huron game the greatest, wildest high school game ever.
GI- unfathomable amount of problems:
No QB
No Center
No OLB
No Depth
Horrible handoffs
Bad playcalling
Missed assignments
Missed TACKLES
Milan- excellent play, defense needs improvement. The score shouldve been 40-21. Good job milan
A neutral party spectator
You want analysis on a 41-7 game ? Lol
I just saw the final score for Milan and GI. What would be the analysis for the game? I didn't go but would love to get both sides' opinions.
Airport shot themselves in the foot 1st half.
Milan 14 GI 0 end of 1
Milan 28-6 at half. Trace Linndeman ran all over the place.
Looks like he left the game to be checked out for a concussion
