Huron League Thoughts and Questions

SMCC’s defense appears to pretty darn good.

Where will Grosse Ile go from here?

Once again, Milan refuses to lose.

Tough to win games when you can’t score.

Flat Rock appears to be good medicine for struggling teams.

Play solid defense against a good team people.

There seems to be some pretty good skill guys down at Jefferson.

Do you need a good QB to be successful. in high school football?

Back in my day ACL injuries were career ending, now it’s a five month injury.

How good of a coach is Jesse Hoskins?

I didn’t know what to do with myself Friday as I was unable to get to a game because of crazy traffic in Dearborn.

Jefferson or Flat Rock?

Can GI’s defense keep them in the game when Milan comes to the island?

  1. I watched Mitroka play last week. Very good player with a quick release on the pass. What bothered me was his running style just before contact. He seemed to sorta twist away or shy away from the defender. I saw the injury and it wasn't quit as obvious but did not get low in the redzone where the injury occured. Kanitz was more of a straight ahead runner. Airports QB last year was a low, straight ahead runner too. He may need to adjust next year to avoid injury again.

  2. We will see how good CC is in the next couple years also. Should still be good next year, but after that, big drop, especially in the CYO leagues. Cyo football very low right now. May have to find a few aces in the hole.

  3. Milan has a ton of talent, we will see how good they are when they don't have a QB next year.
    Judd will play QB?
Jefferson has Sandore they won't lose to FR.
Huron is the most disappointing team in the league this season, by far.
    CC will win the league.

  4. There are a lot of skilled players at Jefferson. Just got to get used to the new system and get all players on the same page. Coaching staff needs to learn best use of the talent. Also, need to make better moves when its their turn in the chess game. Need better decisions.

Hoskins is a great coach, very disciplined, at least as much as SMCC, if not more. He was very hard core even after his team was way in command, he was furious on sideline by mistakes that took place it the 4th qtr. If he is like that all the time, Milan will go far. I believe they will win the league, said it whole season and I'm not a Milan fan.

Technology is great, know several kids who have had a full recovery from ACL injuries. Some 6 months, some 8 months, but all successful.
Hopefully a very temporary road block for those injured this year.

  5. Oh I get it Chris, Mitroka was the best player and of course should get this sort of attention. However he is a junior and hopefully he will be back strong to tear it up next year.

  6. I really wish that some of you people would just leave this wonderful site that Chris does to just talking about the football teams. Yes, it is a fact that some of the schools just have good teams year after year. Which it fact comes from their feeder programs. I enjoy watching all of these schools and the more that get into the state playoffs the better for the league itself. All the coaches and the kids put in a great deal of time throught the year to play this great game. I wish this site would stay positive about the coaches, the kids and the games. Lets not let this site turn into Mlive where a the talk is just rude. Lets keep it all positive about the young men who put in so much time and effort to perform for all of us on Frida nights. Good luck to each and every school the rest of the year.

  7. I know no one really cares much, but Flat Rock lost their best 2 way lineman in it's first game and now has lost their QB for the rest of the year.

  8. Good point about Antonelli. That was a tough loss for SMCC and I hope he recovers fully.

I think the difference is he was a good player on a team full of good players. Mitroka was possibly the best offensive player in the league and certainly the best player on GI's team although they boast many good players. I think the only equivalent to Mitroka going down would be Kanitz from Milan.

This is not to say that anyone player is more valuable than another, it simply means that those two guys have star power and are household names.

  9. Awesome that Mitroka is getting a lot of love but lets not forget another fine senior in Antonelli was lost for the year as well to the same injury. He might deserve a little love too.

  10. Definitely the quarterback is huge especially in high school football. If you don't have a good quarterback you had better have an awesome running back

  11. Really sorry to hear about Mitroka, being a Milan alum and football fan in general I don't want to see anybody get hurt, that being said I wish we were facing all their number 1s, and if they beat us then we lost to a better team, but if we succeeded and won then we can truly say we beat a good team.

All the bickering/bantering is good sometimes, that's what makes football fun for us fans, just don't make it personal and definitely don't call out any of the kids as we are adults here and should keep it clean.

Chris I have followed your blog from the start and respect your views, your knowledge and the time/effort you put forward to bring this blog to us Huron League Fans, Thank you for that!

  12. if mitroka is out for the year they will be at best 6-3 losses this week, and to the view. they dont have a tough schedule other than those 2 teams left for them. but i'm not sure how they will do in playoffs

  13. I hate to see these kids get hurt. They work all summer long to get ready for the season. 1 play, BAM, done. It is a shame. I hope that he can bounce back and be as good as he ever was. Good luck for the rest of the season GI.

  14. Yes it appears CC's defense is legit. Grosse Ile will still be competitive but they need Mitroka to make a playoff run. I admit it, i picked Milan to be middle of the pack. Hoskins is looking like the right fit. Jefferson will get its 1st win Friday. Milan-GI will still be a good game. EM

  15. We wish Mitroka a speedy recovery.

Milan's coach Hoskins is the kind of person and coach that will make a difference in a student-athlete's life and in the community.

    May his tribe increase.

Away games against good teams can be tough, but that hasn't phased the Big Reds in a long time.

What caliber QB will GI come up with?

This should be a fun matchup.
