Huron League Thoughts and Questions

Jesse Hoskins for President?

Sometimes the best defense is a good offense.

It appears that SMCC looked beatable last night.

Even with a loss is Airport coming around?

Congrats to Bruce Pickens.

It looks like my Alma Mater is headed towards 0-9.

Josh Smith, are you kidding me?

Huron will win out if they continue to get QB play like that.

Obviously the game of the week is going to be Milan/ SMCC.

Nice night for a fire in downtown Waltz. Beer too!

Is Marcus Samuels hurt?

  1. UHH THE GI DEFENSE PROBLEM IS NOT IN THEIR HEADS, ITS LOSING GILLIAM, STEWART, AND PUGH- THE 3 STARTING DTs. THEY GOT MOWED DOWN BC THEY HAVE NO D-LINE

    GI FAN

  2. Milan won 23 straight conference games but that was in the SEC… From the end of 95' through 99'…we were division 5 back then…I know that doesn't pertain to the Huron League but GOOD question nonetheless.

  3. There is a streak going on here, and depending on Friday night, it could be longer than anyone expected.

So here is a history question from someone only around the last 3 years…

What is the longest streak of Huron League victories ever?

Right now Milan has a streak of 11 league victories going back to last season, I believe.

  4. That is a short sighted comment regarding GI and quite frankly silly. GI is under .500 in all games but has a solid record in league games (.540 winning pct). They are 9-9 in the playoffs. The only team in the league that has a great record in the playoffs is SMCC. Milan is 9-13 in playoffs, Riverview is 11-11, Jefferson is 10-8. Jefferson and Airport are under .500 in Huron League play.
I guess the only teams that would fall under your comment of standing the test of time is SMCC and possibly Riverview.

So I guess we will just talk about the Falcons of SMCC and maybe the only Class A team in the league Riverview.

  5. why is everyone still talking about G.I.? They are a program who has a losing record for the history of the school. They have been fortunate to have 2 Q.B.s that have won alot of games for them for the past 5-6 years. There are other PROGRAMS in the league who have stood the test of time and know how to rebound from injuries and adversity. Welcome back to reality G.I. parents and fans.

  6. I'm Huron Alumni;and I think you parents just have too thin of skin. This is a full on contact sport. Not ballet. Do you forget your sons are out there chasing one another, tackling, and playing the roughest sport around…? This is FOOTBALL. Not ballet..

What SITOFN is basically saying, since so many of you "GI Parents" boosted about Mitroka being a "one man team" much like myself after seeing the Huron v. GI game; He's saying the team needs to pick it up, quit relying on ONE person, strap it up, and go lay your pads into someone, and give it your all, with or without Mitroka. I wasn't at the GI game to know, but I do know there are other players on that team besides those injured, and if some are playing both ways too much, maybe the GI HC should look to pick from the JV team if numbers and injuries aren't equaling out.. Pretty much, he's trying to fancy up that pony, and enlighten these boys to want to go play, and finish out exactly how they started out. If SITOFN is wrong for trying to put some pep in your boys' step, well then If I was him, I wouldn't want to be right.. Strap it up, practice hard, come out fired up Friday… GI has a pretty swift schedule the rest of the season til Riverview, so get some rest while ya can..

  7. SITOFN is corect in his post, losing Mitroka is devastating to the offense, but did he play D? No, there's no excuse for why the GI D let up that many points, granted people playing both ways are also injured, but Mitroka not playing shouldn't affect that. People saying that SITOFN is wrong are basically putting all the work that the other GI players to waste, you're basically saying that Mitroka was your team and since he's done your season is done. The people doubting and calling out SITOFN are mentally weak, plain and simple.

  8. I think the world is coming to a end since I also agree with SITOFN and his comments.

As a GI parent I never really agreed with his posts in the past but this one is spot on. Suck it up, shake it off, look in the mirror and move on!

  9. Wow – never thought I'd say this but since 2009 (blog beginning) I have never agreed with SITOFN's comments…..hes spot on here and I'm a GI parent!

  10. Hey Sitofn who are you exactly talkin about? You have as many as 9players playing both ways. That's on a team of about 20 last Friday night. And they've been doing this all season so far. Some kids still playing (both ways)and busting their butts are hurt as well. You should be ashamed of your post guy. You hater!

  11. One more comment from this GI supporter. Both CC and Milan showed nothing but class in the way they played and then came over after the game to shake hands and say how sorry they were to the GI players that were hurt and on the sideline during the game.

  12. Every team needs to adjust when they lose key players. GI just went from a week 4 team back to a week 1 team with all the changes it made last week. No one seems to have quit, it's just that they ran into two very good teams when things went backwards for them. I expect that they may not be as good as they were, but as this team gels again look for some good things to happen again this season.

  13. Leave my man SITOFN alone! He speaks the truth! His comments are not insulting, if you are certian that some of the players have "quit" then you're in trouble. It proves that attitude reflects leadership and obviouly the staff there will win when talented and lose when forced to get more out of less.

  14. Team Milan boasts nothing until they take care of business this Friday night.

But from the players to the coaches to the support from the staff and the community, they have been growing things into a healthy program.

Sure nice to see them throwing the ball more.

  15. SITOFN, stop talkin in half sentences which make no sense. Look fella here's the deal-low numbers, injuries, and some players who just don't care or have quite. i'm not sure what the hell youe saying but I think your comments are insulting to the kids still out there busting their butts! I know you like to mention you're your D1 and all, but obviously you're not coaching material!!

  16. For a great watch, check out the Academy Award winning documentary about an inner city high school team and what that coach and those players faced.

Rent "Undefeated" in iTunes rentals for 5 bucks.

Every week high school football continues to provide great opportunities for athletes to work together, be challenged, face adversity, and the great experience of what it means to be on a team.

If the coaches do it right, they create that kind of an environment and love the players.

Glad our guys have that opportunity.

May they enjoy it to the hilt.

  17. Hoskins is a great coach. Very disciplined with his players and turning the whole program around. Nice to see a new successful offense in the league too.

Flat Rock needs some work (understatement) Offense had some flares of success, but defense tackles very poorly and doesn't read the plays very well. No swarming on defense either, many players just watching play.

SMCC may lose to Milan, but I'm sure they will win out after that and be successful in the playoffs.

  18. Congrats to the Bears, hopefully that will be a step in the right direction. They need games where they can settle in on their new offense and defense. Coaches and players. They are learning more each week about the adjustments that can be made. This will only help them improve. Should be a good game with Huron.

  19. Note to GI team:

    1) You're a team, not a player. Mitty is hurt, deal with it and step up.
    2) Did I mention you're a team first not an individual sport??
    3) Mitty didn't play D and now with one other player out you can't defend squat…sorry, but your heads aren't in it!!

Yes Mitroka is a great kid and player, but he (and no one else) is not a/the team.

STRAPS ARE VEEERY LOOSE on the island right now.

Strap-up, Step-up, Stand-up and Giddy-up cause heads are down and I get the feeling that the GI machine is waiting for Magic Mitty Dust …..No such thing in GI land right now so it's mirror time boys and that's the cold truth.

Lotsa great athletes on GI squad…Stop "playing" and start "making plays".

Chris has been nice and left GI comments out of the lime-light. Injuries stink for sure, but it's part of the game and creates adversity that can "make or break" teams.

"Make or Break" will be a tough test the GI machine( coaches, players, students, parents and community)

Time for some Cool Hand Luke insight…. "you've gotta get your mind right".

  20. "It looks like my Alma Mater is headed towards 0-9.
-unfortunately if you've watched the games you should know we're headed towards that every year until we get a new coach……. But I do think we have a shot week 9 if #4 comes back."
Make a comment and leave your name..come on #4 is healthy, they're missing #15 their 1st string QB and #10 their 2nd string QB.

  21. Hoskins is getting it done at Milan.
    Milan will beat SMCC.
Bruce Pickens is doing a great job at Jefferson. They are going to win another game.
Do you think any coach would win at FR with that team?

  22. @6:08PM Milan has under 30 kids on their team and they are good ball players, that's why they win, not because they are a "big school vs. small schools".

    1. I agree with this. That Milan team is small. It's a group of kids who have stuck together and worked very hard. Give them some credit.

  23. Jesse Hoskins for President?
-wow, someone who can win with tons of talent at a big school vs small schools, They should always be one of the top teams. Ill be pulling for them Friday.

Sometimes the best defense is a good offense.
-very true. Only wish FR had a good offense.

It appears that SMCC looked beatable last night.
-they made mistakes. That offense is not meant to make mistakes. Airport had no chance, cc made it closer than it really was.

Even with a loss is Airport coming around?
-no, but at least they are playing a totally dismantled GI team so they have a chance.

    Congrats to Bruce Pickens.
    -totally agree.

It looks like my Alma Mater is headed towards 0-9.
-unfortunately if you've watched the games you should know we're headed towards that every year until we get a new coach……. But I do think we have a shot week 9 if #4 comes back.

Josh Smith, are you kidding me?
-scary. I'm not a view fan but this week might get ugly. 🙁

Huron will win out if they continue to get QB play like that.
    -I sure hope so.

Obviously the game of the week is going to be Milan/ SMCC.
    – no comment needed

Nice night for a fire in downtown Waltz. Beer too!
-always a nice night for that.

    Is Marcus Samuels hurt?
-no, would you run him the way Smith is running?

  24. CC had a pass picked off and and unforced fumble going into the endzone. Both rather uncharacteristic. CC is beatable just like anyone else however.
