The Rams are coming off of a disappointing 49-12 loss to Riverview Gabriel Richard while SMCC is coming off of a 55-0 thrashing of the Plynouth Educational Center out of Detroit. The Falcons won last season’s matchup 44-7 at Navarre Field.
Flat Rock’s defense gave up a boatload of yards on the ground last week against the Pioneers while Flat Rock’s offense threw the ball all over the place.
SMCC pitched a shut out in the opener against the overmatched Panthers. The offense was it’s typical self as numerous players carried the ball for the run happy Falcons.
This is a tough week for the Rams. The bad news is the Rams were picked to finish last in the league while most tabbed SMCC as the favorite. The good news is that SMCC’s coach Jack Giarmo is a good guy and won’t run up the score. Pick SMCC 41 Flat Rock 0
On that, I honestly went into a "triangle"(stall) vs Adrian back in 96 to avoid losing by 50. Im talking hoops by the way.

Actually, I would believe its much easier to play your kids that don't get much playing time. Thats what all coaches at all levels should do when the score gets lopsided, even the losing team. But, for some reason these kids still only get a few minutes regardless of the score. Seen it at all schools in all sports. SMCC has 40 kids hopefully they all got plenty of action last weekend, along with other schools that blew out their opponents.
I been fortunate enough in my coaching career to be on the winning end of some big scores and the losing end of some big scores. One thing I leasrned is that it isn't the job of the winning coach to keep the score down. It is the job of the losing coach. I believed that whether I was winning or losing. It's as easy as "get better!"……but that is just me.
CC would never run up a score in any sport there above that yes right
I never mentioned FR in my post. I never think a game is won until it is won.
If I were coaching FR, I would think we were going to beat CC, period. I would have my kids thinking they can win. "we are going to win and this is how we are going to do it". That is part of the coaches job.
That being said I know FR wont lay down nor are they conceding a darn thing. CC will have to earn a victory if they get one… that goes for every week and every team.

Im sorry but what CC do you see? They always run it up, its not always "on purpose" but he never "takes it easy." I don't see any way they don't score 60+ this week.
I know your a SMCC fan bn, I guess we will have to deal with that. That was actually pretty funny though.
As long as a team puts in their 2nd and 3rd strings, thats all you can ask for. If they still score, not much you can do. Hopefully FR's 1st string can stop a 2nd or 3rd string.

As a recent graduate from the school and someone who still has ties, I can tell you that we did not intentionally "run" up the score when I was there (obviously the players, including myself, wanted to keep scoring but who does not as a competitor? who doesn't want to score another TD?). Running the offense even with the backups there comes times when the opposing defense just cannot find the ball or stop the offense from marching down the field, and the result is a TD.
**In addition
In 2008 during our district playoff opener, we played Allen Park Cabrini, we had built a large lead by halftime. I remember watching in the 3rd quarter (with the backups in) we started kneeing the ball on offense with over 8 minutes left on the clock. Now some of you will now take your argument saying that is even worse, but what is a coach suppose to do? keep going in and scoring when the opposing defense cannot stop them and build a 70+ point lead in the third quarter? I think taking the knee was more of a sportsman thing to do. To conclude, Giarmo does not run up the score, I will not be naive and say it has never happened because I cant speak for every game he's ever coached. But as someone who has been there, Giarmo rarely runs up the score.. Here's to the end of an unnecessary debate.
GOODLUCK to my Falcons! As well as Airport, Jefferson, GI, Flat Rock, Riverview, Milan and Huron!

SMCC would run it up if they were playing the 12 apostles! Give me a break.

Only because they would have 5 yards walked off on each play for too many men on the field.

I think most HS coaches have been on both ends of the spectrum regarding lop sided wins and losses.
I dont see 40-50 points as being a running it up deficit. There are only so many things you can do(sub, run up the middle). If that still produces yardage and points then what is one to do?
CC, Airport and GI have had the opportunity, in recent years, to put up 70-100 points on some teams but chose not to. I dont see the sportsmanship aspect of the game going away. 45-0 says the same as 75-0.

They might run it up on the Apostles if Judas was playing but if he was benched for conduct detrimental to the team I'm pretty sure they wouldn't run it up.

Jack has respect for the staff at FR. He won't run it up. I know a few coaches he would though.
The future is much brighter in FR if those kids stick together. If the coaches stick around and they have continuity they could be a top tier team in a few years.
FR's 2016,2017,and 2018 classes apparently have some athleticism.
I see the FR JV team had a nice win. Do you know anything about that group? Is there some promise?
