Milan/Ypsi Lincoln

Milan (8-0) just wrapped up their second consecutive Huron League Championship with a 29-19 win over Carleton Airport while Ypsi Lincoln improved to 7-1 with a 27-20 victory over Ypsilanti. Milan won last year’s game 36-14.

Both teams average around 30 ppg  but the Big reds appear to have the better defense.

This should be a great game that could go either way. I’m not about to pick against Milan again. Pick: Milan 21 Lincoln 20

  1. It took a conference champ to give the league champ a GREAT game. Well done Lincoln, you were every bit as tough as we imagined! Congrats Big Reds on another perfect 9-0 season!!

  2. Milan welcome to the dump on all the time band wagon. Us SMCC fans welcome you with open arms. People just don't like it when you have a good season or a few years of good seasons. Congratulations on a great hard working winning season.

  3. I personally think its going to be a good game, the Best passing game Milan will see this year to date, decent running game and put together Ypsi-Lincoln has a GOOD team, Milan will stick with what has worked for them all year a mix of running Trace Lindeman and Robert Kanitz, With Kanitz also passing around 15 times. Milan's defense has relied a few times this year on the bend don't break with GREAT linebackers and good defensive backs.
That being said I see it close either way, in a low scoring affair or a shootout.
    PICK: Milan 35 -vs- Ypsi-Lincoln 30

By the way if you want you can watch it on highschoolcube.com password MILAN_BIG_REDS, or listen to it on the radio WTKA is broadcasting it.
    Go Big Red Machine!

  4. WHAT a poor school system.9-0 and Back to Back huron League Champs And WON LAST YEARS GAME.Hmmmmmmmm.When they win again tonight just maybe people will say thats a GREAT TEAM at 10-0

  5. Wow, whoever this Anonymous is, they sure are a hater…. 🙂

For the most part, many posters on this board who have seen Milan play this season have had positive impressions of the team. This includes how they perform on the field and the manner with which they conduct themselves.

Credit goes to the players themselves–particularly all the players who took on bigger roles this season and stepped up in the face of last year's large senior class moving on.

Credit also goes to the coaching staff, who got the most out of this group. There are no road graders on the offensive line, so the coaches emphasized quickness and athleticism on both lines to get the job done, more trapping and pulling on offense and more 1-gapping and stunting on defense.

I also like Milan scheduling a tougher team before the playoffs instead of a complete cream puff. Last year's game was a real battle in the freezing rain and I expect tonight's game to be a great way to prep for a playoff run.

  6. WOW 26 players cause this much talk.I guess hard work in the off season and good coaching for the last two years had paid off. and if you think it is because it just of where someone is from your wrong its about the TEAM they play for. This is the BEST TEAM for the last two years in the HURON league because they play is a TEAM.Milan beat lincoln last year and they will win again this year

  7. Oh yea and Milan has the best LB's, QB, offensive line and all around defense. Every Milan player should be All-Huron League, even the ones on the bench!

  8. @6:01PM Lincoln's D is stout. Their front 7 are excellent ball players. Secondary is exceptional as well. Their offense on the other hand really relies on the big play, QB and line are mediocre at best. Recievers are the strength of team. It'll be interesting to see how the "bend-don't break" Milan D fares against a team who lives by the big play.

  9. This recruiting talk is getting old. Was the opposition saying the same about Airport in '02 and '03? Or Riverview the years they got to the state finals? I'm sure you were all convinced Cisco had 4 and 5 star recruits the year Jefferson won state. EM

  10. 6:01… Lincoln is the the biggest/fastest defense Milan has faced; they're very similar to Ypsilanti. On offense they have great size. (6-5 receiver, 6-4 tight end, big line).

I predict a low scoring battle. Milan has to keep Lincoln's receivers in front of them and force Lincoln to make mistakes, which they have all year.

On offense, they have to open up their playbook and keep a good balance of run/pass. They might have trouble on the line.

    Milan 17 – Lincoln 14

  11. It is indeed an honor to be accused of recruiting…means we are playing well and frustrating all opposition.

Big Reds, Good luck in the playoffs warm-up game.

Has anyone seen Lincoln play this year? What do you think?

Or Milan players who've watched film, what do you think?

    1. Your kids must be 3rd stringers who say Milan benefits from school of choice like other schools. If someone moves in district from anywhere is a Milan kid haters..

  12. Chris – I agree with you. There are good athletes at every school and I personally don't care if they are school of choice or not. This blog should not be for debating school of choice. Good luck to all of the Huron League teams this Friday.

  13. The parent talking about their kid going to Milan instead of Ypsi is at least one so don't say all "26" of our kids are Milan kids. Also where did your Freshman rb come from. Tennessee. That's right. Recruiting in other states.

    1. If im not mistaken the freshman running backs parents moved here for a job transfer and both parents live and work in Milan. Recruiting in other states really?!? Sure whatever you say

    2. The freshman has lived here for 2 years. He played 7th and 8th grade football here. We, I say we cause I'm dad, moved here do to a job relocation. He was not recruited.

  14. Facts:
    1. A student that enters a school, any school, as a school of choice student has to seat for a semester unless they make a full and complete move into the desired district.

    2. Milan, Ypsi Lincoln, and many other schools in the SE Michigan area have athletes that are school of choice…..aka: come from other districts.

    3. All of Milan sports programs, and several others schools in the area have benefited greatly from having "school of choice" students at their schools.

Until the State of Michigan changes the laws/rules regarding education in Michigan, people will just have to deal with it. If people are truly upset by it, then they should direct their comments to governor Snyder, not on a message board.

  15. As the parent of a "School of Choice" player I can tell you that we sent our kids to Milan because they could get a WAAAAY better education than Lincoln could provide!! Sports is an afterthought.. they can play football at Lincoln just as much as they can at Milan. The fact that the players are good has nothing to do with there address but has EVERYTHING to do with an Outstanding Off-season lifting and conditioning program as well as a focus on grades to keep their kids eligible ALL season.

  16. Can't play sports your first year? The big kid at Milan from Ann Arbor Huron sat the MHSAA required one semester. Please don't tell stories. Everyone knows what the basketball program is about.

  17. Milan doesn't bring them in. If out of district kids go to Milan they bring themselves. Milan has a rule that if you live out of district you can't play sports the first year there. Now Lincoln on the other hand does bring them in LITERALLY they send bus to pick up kids from Ypsilanti school district and when Willow Run was open they drove to that district as well. Now who out there has the right to comment on a PARENTS choice to send their kids to a smaller school where THEY feel its a better school for Their child overall. People need to research before they comment.

  18. Milan has developed a reputation for bringing in outsiders for the basketball program. It is true and it makes the rest of the sports look suspect and iffy. Sorry if the truth hurts.

    1. Soorrrrry haters country feed milan breed. No players on team except Milan kids. No ypsi no lincoln n especially no a2. Stop with your assumptions…

  19. I think the Big Reds will win. I also think it will be by 2 scores. I have watched film on Lincoln and I think they will be confused on defense. Offensively they won't be able to run, will have to rely on an inadequate passing game. If Lincoln has a shot at winning they will have to be able to run the ball. Looking forward to this game. Should be a dandy!

    1. Oh my god you people don't stop. I'm sorry but check every kid on that 26 man roster and you will see that not one kid is from Ypsi, Ann arbor or anywhere else. But with you people there is no evidence just stupidity through your comments. Do some research.

    2. Must not be a whole lot since there is only 27 guys!!! Everyone in Milan knows that those kids from Ypsilanti come to Milan for BASKETBALL NOT FOOTBALL! Stop trying to take away from MILAN'S hardwork.

    3. As a CC fan I would like to welcome you to our world. It won't stop just so you know. We take pride in hearing about how we recruit 5'8 160lb monsters. Don't sweat it, they have nothing better to do.

  20. Chris,

Thanks for your blog, by the way.

You made some good calls and recognized the players in a positive way over the last three years that I have come to it.

This looks like a great match-up. Your friend the Calpreps computer has it 22-21 Lincoln on a neutral field.

Only one common opponent and both beat Ypsi by a TD.

The difference will be Milan's running game, I believe. In each of their "big games" they have broken for some big plays. Can Lincoln contain it? Conversely, can Milan secondary do the job if Lincoln tests it? I am trusting in them.

Milan plays at home with momentum.

    Milan 21-14.

Plus, I am biased. Go Big Reds!
