Huron League Thoughts and Questions

SMCC had quite a battle on their hands last Friday.

Not their best game but Milan just keeps on winning.

Riverview’s speedy backs caught Melvindale by surprise early.

There are no gimmees in Division 5.

I think Milan’s non-league schedule helped prepared them well for the playoffs.

Still gotta play defense.

Catholics or Catholics?

Detroit or Ypsi? (relax people that is just a joke)

Is SMCC throwing the ball too much?

Can a freshman perform on the big stage?

I’m not sure which game to go see this week, any suggestions?

Milan’s Kanitz or Melvindale’s Doyle?

  1. I think the freshman performed well on the big stage Friday night. Tough loss but the Big Reds played a heck of a game!! Proud of each and everyone of them.

  2. I agree totally. All these current parents think these current SMCC teams are great, well they are not that great compared to some of the past teams and talent. Their season will end this week, if not, for sure next.

Quit hypeing them up. Not that great. Probly not even that great next year unless some of them grow. Don't matter how talented QB or RB is, if no line. GOOD LUCK to all of you, but keep it in perspective with the other teams who have left their mark.

  3. to the Nov 5:48 poster….

I could not help but laugh once i finished reading your post.

"Corbin and Carrabino would prob be the best on any cc team team in the past 5-7 years"

I really hope you know what teams you are talking about, no offense but a couple of those teams 5-7 years ago would put this 13' falcon squad down, badly.
those two are good players but to say they would be the best is so incompetent.

in another light put this team up against Ravenna of 03' Constantine of 04, Montague of 09' Ithaca of 10' and it wouldn't be a pretty sight, the scores would be very different.

cheer them on this year dont worry about next.

  4. SMCC passes when the run isnt there. #7 has a better arm than some QB's of the past, but he wont take off and run when its there. He's not the biggest and football is his 3rd sport. Surprised he still plays it actually. Anyhow, with him and the league's best receiver (?) they have to pass more. Many teams have stuffed their run, so they were forced to throw. Has seemed to work decent so far.
Defense an issue. A team with a good plan will tear up SMCC's defense.
Let me find my stat book, there must be something in here I can be impressive with. Must have a lot of time on your hands to go back and count passes.

  5. Milan vs Melvindale should be a great game!! Mistakes will determine the outcome. If they play careless like they did in the first half against Thurston and give Melvindale Field Position it will be a cards victory. If Mel comes out like they did against Riv then Milan will jump all over them. At this time of the year mistakes shine through.

  6. I think SMCC is learning that in this day and age, you need to be able to pass. Especially if you play a team as good or better than you. It has cost Giarmo 2 shots at a state title. The offense he runs is great for clock and ball control, but if you get down a couple scores, they are in trouble.
Milan will have their hands full this week.
Good luck to SMCC and Milan!

  7. Their O-line isnt as dominant as in 03-05 or 09-10. They may have one guy over 200 lbs. SO, they have to rely on the pass a bit more. It doesnt hurt that they do have some weapons in that area.

I think it was Sansersen who preached only 3 things can happen and 2 are bad.. Giarmo I am sure listened.

  8. The 6'4" Vuich is a mismatch for almost any DB. The kid has hands too.. it would be silly not to split him out and throw it up to him from time to time. The passing game makes SMCC very dangerous, more dangerous than in the past. You simply cannot load the box with 10 players any longer. I dont think they will have much trouble running the ball vs AAGR however. Its GR who will do all the passing. They might throw it 30 times.

  9. the 1252 poster is right. When they lose its because they cant pass, now Chris is asking if passing 10-12 times a game is too much. Rather silly, no?

  10. CC has THEIR best receiver of the decade with Vuich. Czarnowski is the best pass catchers cc has had behind Vuich in several years and that
Corbin and Carrabino would prob be the best on any cc team team in the past 5-7 years. put that with a QB who has a good enough arm to get it there and let those kids make plays and there is a solid passing attack! watch out next year

    1. They do have a good group of recievers, but lets get one thing straight, 7 gets it done! Kid is a winner, doesn't matter if it's football or checkers, flat out winner.

  11. I'm thinking the freshman RB from Milan is doing a great job. He took some hard hits the last few weeks but he keeps gettin back up.

I think Melvindale will be a challenge for Milan…BUT.. the temp will be 38 degrees at 7:00 pm on Friday.. good for the run / bad for the pass. .. Edge… Milan.

  12. Ypsi or Detroit? Haha good one Chris. Riverview's backs did good early, but Melvindale adjusted. You can't go wrong going to either game, i would give a slight edge to Milan-Melvindale. The freshman is capable of performing on the big stage, it's gonna be tough against Melvindale's defense. Kanitz or Doyle is a tough call. Doyle is the better passer while Kanitz is the better runner and his passing has improved. EM

  13. I think Kanitz gets it done. I believe Milan's defense wins this game. I think the offense will put up 14 or 21 points and the defense holds them to 2 scores. It should be a very interesting game. Milan by 7. One kid who don't get enough praise is Hoover. He will have a big game on defense. So will josh.

  14. They did have a battle last week. That's what happens when you let teams hang around.

The last few years it was CC can't throw so they'll lose when someone stops the run, now that they have a QB that can sling it they're passing too much?!

    D5 does have gimmes………Ida

Milan wins again this week, they are the more disciplined team and will have fewer mistakes.
