Does Milan reload?
SMCC looks like they will be really good next year
Mitroka?
Go Green!
I think maybe Riverview graduates too much to contend.
Does Huron ever get over the hump?
Is this the end for Airport?
Go White!
Will Jefferson turn it around?
Does Flat Rock declare independence for a while?
Does the league stop them from doing so?
Do JV records determine future success?
Same Ole Lions!
What a team's jv did has nothing to do with what they will do on varsity i#$&ts.
Sometimes it does.
Huron's caps the open enrollment. Their increase is strictly due to population increase. The elementary schools have been full for years.
Interesting Huron league trends looking at the MHSAA enrollment stats. Huron, Jefferson, Airport, Flat Rock and Riverview all have significant increases in student population in their underclasses. SMCC shows modest increase, Milan remains stable and GI shows student population loss. What will the effect be on football? Is this because of school of choice? What do you think?
AMEN to your November 25, 2013 at 10:03 PM post! really well stated. Mitroka will be back. He is ahead of schedule post surgery and has full range of motion. Already out of his brace. And, if JV teams are an indicator…GI JV went undefeated two years ago which is a great sign for the devils.
They should when they have double the boys to pick from
They beat Ypsilanti and Ypsilanti lincoln who won SEC so that mean Milan can play in SEC. Oh both those schools are at least 500 students more. Just beat Milan next year or shut up. Reigning Champs 2xs
Divisions are based on enrollment and nothing else! Milan should move to a league with teams from similar enrollment sizes. They play in the huron league were half the teams are schools with 400 less kids. Just because they have a good record in this league does not mean they will do well against teams who were challenged all year in bigger better leagues.
River view, Airport, Milan an SMCC should find a new league or play in one together and add teams their own size.
Salty about Milan beating your school's team..?
Milan has a thin senior class next year and the JV team wasn't that good. So how exactly will they reload? Please explain.
Coaching
Milan-BLAH-BLAH- BLAH
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
MILAN RELOADS AGAIN!!!
And then fails to make a deep playoff again.
Lol you expect small town Milan ,who should be playing a lower division, to go on to Ford field in D-3? I don't think so. Riverview also seen how tough it is. It's just not gonna happen.
Well stop letting students into the school who don't live in the "small town" of Milan. You are D3, your enrolment says so! Or maybe get into a league that better prepare yourselves for the playoffs. So don't give me this crap about "shouldn't be D3!" I know, maybe we as a state can make an exception for Milan, even though they have the same enrolment as the rest of D3, we should let them play in D5 so they can feel good about their post season.
Hey look Milan is good in other sports like bball baseball swimming ccountry. They don't need excuses. They have the kids they have and go as far as their talent and coach's take them. There's over 200 teams who don't make playoffs. So to make playoffs is good you i#@$ t.
Kids leave because their parents believe they are the best around and that somewhere else is always better for their little All-Star. If they all stayed or if school of choice was not around the kids would have to put up or shut up.
When you get down as far as FR appears to be right now you need some time to regroup and reload. Confidence carries kids more than people admit and winning some games will have an impact. That is why parents pay $10K a year to send their kids to CC or Brother Rice… they know they will win and have success!
FR Football should step back, regroup, hire some better assistant coaches, compete for a couple of years and have some success and then rejoin the HL. All the other sports can compete, even though they have not won a HL title in years in any boys sport, they can compete as they are not as physically demanding or numbers driven. Help the kids, help the district!
By the way, I'm pretty sure I coached FR's football coach during his days of playing basketball at FR.I know him very well and we still talk although not as often as we should.
If kids leave then they're not all in. If kids want to leave their friends behind and go play at another school then more power to them.
sounds like you know the coach at FR and or have talked to him..that is exactly what he preaches and is bringing to the fore front. ..I've actually heard from sources close to my son that if kids want to transfer he asks them so…apparently he wants kids that are all in..gotta be careful of that though or every kid will leave
Here is what your not considering. The Huron League can tell FR to take a hike if they choose. FR could come back but who says the league takes them.
The other sports are competitive so I think it would be silly to pursue leaving, especially with the proximity of the schools in the league. Travel is really kept at a minimum.
What the school should do is approach the league about going independent in just football for a period of 2 to 4 years. You could do it in both JV and Varsity. You would still schedule your two biggest rivals, which are Huron and Airport. You even consider still playing Grosse Ile because they aren't much bigger than you. You then go out and find some teams that you can compete with. Go get some wins.
In the mean time the athletes in the school need to start playing football instead of sitting on the sideline. For the kids whose parents are scared for their kids safety, they should encourage their kid to work hard to get bigger, faster and stronger then band together with their fellow athletes and friends and go have fun playing the game that every American kid loves.
As for those parents who want to take their kid somewhere else, I say good riddance! The FR mentality should be your either for us or against us. If you want to stay, great let's work hard then play some football. If you want to leave, don't let the door hit you in the ass. If you think Summit Academy, Carlson or Woodhaven is a better option for you, then have at it.
The last thing I would say is if you are in, be all in! Support your kid's coach at all cost. Your child will believe whatever you want him to believe. If you think the coach is bad, wrong or has bad play calling then your kid will believe it whether it is right or wrong. If you stay positive and praise and edify the coach in front of your kid then you will believe what you believe.
Just my two cents. I loved my time at FR both as a student and a coach.
I think the administration is going to allow them to go independent for a few years. It doesn't matter what other people in the league have to say. FR administration makes the move and can ask to get back in. Is FR really making people better? If people in FR "truly" care about the kids then they'll allow them to leave and build independently until they can come back and compete. They're not even close right now.
Would you want your son to play for FR if he went there?
Kennedy closing has been a rumor for a while. If they do, there is no way Riverview bolts. They like the friendly confines of the Huron League. Trenton tries almost yearly to join the Huron.
The league would simply play one non-league game per year. It would be a good thing for the Downriver League.
Hey Chris, I heard Kennedy is consolidating with Truman. If this is true, will the Downriver League look to stay at 10 schools? And do you think they will go after Riverview or will Riverview even be interested?
J.V. records have little to do with future varsity success, each schools best players are playing on Friday night no matter what grade they are in.
The Huron League should not stop FR from trying to build a program, if they did it would be selfish and really irresponsible
Is this the end for Airport? Ummm no. One bad year and you write them off? Did you say the same about Milan 2 ago?
Milan is well coached, don't compare yourselves to them.
Chris, don't give us this garbage! We want the defense NOW!
