Current Flat Rock defensive coordinator Will Mulvaney passed away Saturday evening of an apparent heart attack.
Mulvaney was a 1968 graduate of the University of Illinois where he played football for the Fighting Illini. He served in the Vietnam War as part of an Airborne/Special Forces Unit.
Mulvaney earned his MBA and PhD and was a college professor for over 20 years, which included a stop at Saginaw Valley State.
His coaching and football background included stops at the University of Wisconsin, Tulane University, Hudson Valley Community College and most recently as the defensive coordinator at the University Wisconsin Milwaukee.
In 1993, Mulvaney was the defensive coordinator for Manchester High School. The Flying Dutchmen finished as the Class C runner-up that season falling to Iron Mountain in the final.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
Coach Mulvaney was a great coach and even better man. Our deepest condolences to all family and friends.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends, and students that knew Coach M. Lift each other up in these times and lean on each other. To the football players, you can honer him by playing your hardest and being a good teammate. Its not always about the wins, its about learning and giving your all. Thats what Coach M would want.
Keep fighting Rams, your on the right track, just don't give up. Always fight and play for each other.

Airport Parent
As the parent of a Flat Rock football player, I was saddened by the news of coach Mulvaney's passing. He seemed like a decent, intelligent, and thoughtful man who truly cared about his players. My son and his friends are heartbroken, and it is clear that he made a large impact in a short time. Please keep the players, coaches, and community in your thoughts and prayers.
