Airport @ Milan

Milan (3-4) is coming off of a 42-14 victory over Flat Rock while Airport (3-4) fell at home to Huron 21-14. Milan won last seasons game 29-19 and have won three in a row over the Jets.

Milan has struggled this season with injuries and depth. Both the offense and defense have been good at times, but have been mostly inconsistent.

Airport lost a golden opportunity last week to possibly get a playoff spot after the Jets blew a 14-0 3rd quarter lead. The running game continues to impress, but the defense will need to step up this week.

This should be a close contest that goes either way. Tough pick, but the way the Big Reds turn it over has me picking the Jets. Prediction: Airport 21 Milan 14

  1. I don't think it is fair to say play calling lost a game. Maybe poor execution or lack of execution. Maybe even not giving 100%. Every coach wants to win. I thought some teams should run a different style of offense. But the coach of a team runs what he thinks will work if ran the right way. So easy to blame a coach then to take ownership.

  2. I have seen both play against Huron this season. I would give Airport the edge based on what I saw in the first half this past Friday, but Milan has that home field advantage and are right there with Airport. This is probably the closest game of the week, and my gut thinks Airport ekes it out.

  3. The team that executes best in all three phases will win this game. Should be a good one!

Also, let me suggest that criticizing play calling is a tough thing to do. Whenever a play doesn't work, it's easy to just blame the play caller and believe that our kids might have executed a different play more successfully. Sometimes, the defensive coaches anticipate a certain play call and will then overload an area or dial up a specific blitz to stop that play.

But it's tough for us in the bleachers to tell whether a coach dialed up the right defense to stop a particular play or if a defensive player won their 1-on-1 battle and blew a play up as a result.

  4. I'm adding #9 Dad to my list of people I like from this blog. Good honest man

good luck to both teams this week!

    1. Thanks. I just give my opinion with out trying to bash or rub it in. You never teach your kids to stop playing. The score will always reflect the outcome. Sometimes it will be one sided and sometimes it won't. Just play your best and learn from your mistakes.

  5. Sure are a lot of "play calling have hurt" comments the last few weeks. Are the Jet faithful losing confidence in Baas? Does he call the plays or does he have an O.C.?

  6. Airport should win this one, play calling, turn overs and bad penalties have cost them the last few weeks. Sounds like Milan as well.

    1. Nope. We plan on a 5-4 season. Taking it one game at a time. Next year doesn't start until the final second ticks off the clock of the DCD game. Then we will worry about next year. Good luck!

  7. This should be a very good game for Milan. Maybe the most even matched game for us so far. Airport is very good offensively but has the same struggles on defense as we do. I think the win last week helped us motivate to keep winning. If we control the ball with no turnovers, and the offensive group can minimize penalties then Milan should win. Although I feel it will be a closer game in favor of Milan. More like a 3 point game. Our defense has struggled some but did a nice job last week. I know it was Flat Rock but looking back the only team that gashed us on the ground was SMCC. Huron had the dual threat that gave us problems but they have a great QB in Matt and he was the difference for them. We just played bad against RV . Should be a great game to watch and hopefully we play to our potential and get the win. Good luck to Airport.

  8. As a former jet I have to say I'm dissapointed in their level of play past few years. Their consistency is poor, and their offensive play calling is even worse. Predictability won't win many games. Sometimes you have to break your comfort zone and adapt to the changes, which they have not shown as a team. I take big reds 21-14
