  1. First of all over 51% of the students in Monroe County are living at or below the poverty level. It costs more than $8000.00 a year to sent a student there. Consequently over 80% of the students who go there receive financial aid from the Archdiocese and various scholarship grants from our community. We choose to send our kids there because we went there. I really resent my tax dollars going to the public schools year in and year out when I get nothing out of it. I guess if you want to hurt Catholic Education quit giving to your church. I wish I could quit paying taxes for your kids education.

  2. You are right again, almighty redneck god. I was wrong to doubt your superior intellect. In fact all of our scouts are combing the entire state right now. We are currently petitioning the Archdiocese right now for additional funds to increase our scouting department to include the states of Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. If they turn us down, then we will petition the Vatican and Pope Francis himself. After all, according to you, winning football games is worth the extra money, your highness. Every win we have had in the last 75 years has been due to our lack of talent, cheating, paying the referees, scouting and recruiting, and just plain intentional malice. In fact, I suggest that all of the teams that MCC/SMCC has beaten, should contact the MHSAA to obtain their official asterisks for those losses because we are undeserving of those wins. How about if next season, instead of starting our first string players, we start the third string so that it will be a fair game for all of you. Better yet, we could start our girls volleyball team and maybe you would consider that a more even matchup. I do not want to sound hateful, or sound like I am bragging or anything. I don't want you to incur your wrath upon me oh great one!
And as far as SMCC fans bragging, it is hard to say nice things about the other teams, when the scores have been so one sided. Try playing a little better. Wait, let me try. Way to score that ONE touchdown! I guess that wasn't so hard. Oops! I guess I was being hateful again. Tonight I will sacrifice an extra "Larry the Cable Guy" DVD in order to appease the redneck god.

  3. Oh no not another I was offered financial aid story. Pretty funny, the financial aid stuff comes from the archdiocese of detroit and if you have a financial need to get into school then so be it. What's funny is some cc people will say they are getting money off so others don't bash them for paying full price. They don't have an athlete in the school that is a bona fide flat out stud athlete. So who are they paying to come in.
Chris is right, story is tired

  4. Folks,
SMCC will always get crap. That's the way it is. Win or Lose.

    5:23 Nice story, whatever??

You notice the last 15 comments are about SMCC and all the BS.

Not all these folks are going to complain all the time, every week throughout the season if there isn't some truth to some of these statements somewhere.

You don't recruit, but many folks are given financial aid, even those who don't deserve it. A high school offering a family financial aid is an advantage.

I know this is true because we were offered it.

It is definitely a subject that is beat to death, but it obviously bothers people.

Sounds like your a little upset there 3:44. Most all of us are rednecks around here. I think your the one being hateful. We just make comments about SMCC's program. None of us hate anyone there. Admitting an occasional imperfection will gain you some respect. Stosento admitted the academics there could be better and he was praised for his honesty. That's all it takes.

  5. 3:19,

You must be new. I'm Huron Alumni/Fan. Although, I've grown quite fond on SMCC; to where, yes, I am tired of people attacking them, and yes, I will stand up for them. Specially outsiders who want to make excuses for them winning. Take my comment as you will. SMCC knows this kind of gratitude with them, will only last until next years game when they face Huron, then its rival mode again.

    KC

  6. Sure, some kids come from public schools. Take mine for example. They recruited my daughter for cheerleading. Everyone knows what a state powerhouse CC is in cheerleading. Is it that hard to believe some people want a faith-based education?

Scholarships are need-based and provided by the Archdiosese do Detroit in part through the Catholic Services Appeal. Not that you would know anything abut that because that would require actually verifying your facts.

From the Monroe Evening News 2013. One brother played football at Bedford (highly successful at that time) but the other brother made a different choice:

"The (family) are members at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Temperance. (Younger brother) asked his parents if he could attend an open house at SMCC and immediately fell in love with the school.

#"I just liked the school and the atmosphere," he said.

#So he chose SMCC Green over Bedford

#"He just felt that's where he wanted to go," Dad said. "He was really impressed with the school. It's been a really good fit for him. He likes more discipline which is weird for a kid that age."

So here come the comments. " he must've gotten a scholarship". " he was recruited". Yeah, I'm sure the family is lying and only you know the truth.

Yeah I'm tired of this argument too but I can't keep quiet when lies are perpetuated.

SMCC is not liked because most everyone in Monroe county think you recruit. Many people know what talent you seem to be going to have out of the cyo, then these other kids out of nowhere seem to be in your sports programs, seems to get you over the edge. Who truly knows if you do recruit? We have all heard our stories. The biggest thing is a young man or woman who could never afford to go to a catholic grade school, suddenly appears at your school, not even catholic, and you guys take care of them on tuition. Obviously, these kids come from a public school district.

Technically, I guess that's not recruiting, but if a young mans family inquires with you about attending SMCC, but can't afford it, you offer them an education for $1500 a year, instead of the full price. What is that called? I am not bitter about it. I know the process. I have kids in public high school, doing great, experiencing an unsheltered, real life atmosphere and are prospering just fine. In fact, getting ready to go to a nice college and has already been approved for academic scholarship money. So I am good, but I wanted to shed some light on why the majority of the county doesn't care for your program. Its reality. SORRY.

    November 10, 2014 at 9:11 AM

Hey, thanks for shedding some light on the situation!
From now on I think we should just admit to everything we are accused of. Only one condition. We will admit to every reason why your team loses if you, in return, admit to being a bunch of hateful, small minded, jealous rednecks, who wouldn't know a thing about football if it jumped up and bit you.

  8. We have our eye on a fifth grader and two six graders right now. They are both from northwest Oakland county. I really hope that we can get them to sign early and not lose them.

  9. People will always knock the best. They knocked Milan for 2 years when they won. Its human nature.

If SMCC does recruit it is offset by them playing against much bigger schools in HL. It all evens out.

I know some kids on that team.. the families any way and they have been in the program for a long time.

The fact of the matter is, you wouldn't be accused of recruiting if you weren't very good. Its a compliment really.

  10. It is ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ, but it is what people think. That's why people get on here constantly and knock them. Rain or shine, win or lose, current subject on the blog or not. People are always get on here and knock SMCC.

I could care less. I will be hunting. Peace and quiet.

  11. The world is a tough place, perhaps you should get out more often. A lot of people around here think you have an unfair program. You don't win the league year in, year out, but you do dominate our league almost every year. You should be in an all catholic league with similar schools.

  12. Don't be SORRY we don't care what people think. If you want to send your kids to SMCC that's great and your kids will be glad that you did. It prepares them great for college and life. If not that's ok too. Look people will think what they want. It's just so sad that people really think that.

That's just one person. And it didn't seem like KC was bragging, more just smack talking back to Clinton. One person doesn't represent every SMCC fan.

  15. Really.. Read the 9:13am comment. You brag and dont compliment any other teams. You are not humble when you win. Good sportsmanship I see with the kids, but maybe you alumni (parents) need to relax a little. After all, it's just high school ball. I wish good luck to SMCC and HURON.

  16. I just wonder if all of the other Catholic schools in the state get as much BS as SMCC does. I don't know what we do any different than any other school in the region, other than want our kids to get a faith based curriculum. We go to work, eat, sleep, walk, talk, and put our pants on just like all of the rest of you. But we have been accused of everything but killing Christ Himself on this blog. All because we've had a successful football season. I don't know what it is. According to all of you, we're not allowed to have a sports program, cheer for our team, take pride in our children, brag about our teams, or experience any kind of joy whatsoever. We're not supposed to play in a public school league. Why? Is it because we have billions of dollars and a state of the art sports facility? I'm sure you've driven by our school and seen where we play our football games. We should be able to play against any team in the state. If you want to be the best you have to beat the best. By keeping the Catholic schools out of the public school leagues, all you are saying is that you are not as good as us. If you aren't saying that, well let's strap 'em up and play football. Is it envy? I just don't get it. Our kids work hard, try to get good grades, and are a well coached, pretty disciplined bunch. I'm sure the rest of you feel the same way about your kids. If you decide to come on the blog, talk smack about us, well then, don't get upset if things don't go your way. If you're gonna dish it out, you better be able to take it as well. There is no gigantic conspiracy against your team when you play CC. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. You just have to suck it up and wait until next year. I've seen plenty of losses with CC. Last year at Clarenceville, for example. CC blew it on the final play of the game. Pretty heartbreaking, but it wasn't anyone's fault but our own. Thank God this year is going a little better.
I just think that we are taking a lot of unnecessary crud.

  17. Ok we will-there, now you have a really nice day. I don't know which huron league team is yours but I'am sure that you will still continue to lose.

  18. Geez stop! No parents feel the league is easy. We don't win the league every year in any sport. Love how people just make stuff up. Good luck Huron and Cc Nice to see people support the league. Huron league football is solid.

  19. Clinton fans;

You lost. You will not be playing next week or the week after. Your whining and bickering about shoulda coulda woulda, won't help anything. Go hug your kids. Get them in the gym. Make them work harder. And come back next year and do the talking then.

    KC

  20. I agree it was different from the GL game but for a district final and the #3 ranked team in the state.. this was a blowout.

  21. You cannot define a game by it's score. There is context to consider in every game. Yes, SMCC soundly beat them, but they did not dominate Clinton. I define domination as the SMCC – Grass Lake game. Clinton showed life and a pulse at multiple points of the game. SMCC controlled the game in almost every aspect, and by the end of the game, Clinton for sure felt beat up. I'm not trying to defend Clinton or anything, but this was a different game than the Grass Lake game. That's all I'm trying to say.

  22. Anonymous Nov 8th 1:50pm
VERY well said. The score before the half was pretty rough for Clinton, but I do think that goal line stand for the Falcons in the 3rd quarter was the back breaker. Clinton had a chance to pull within 2 scores, and when SMCC scored you could feel the game was slipping from Clinton. This was by no means a blowout, and Clinton showed that their offense was a force to be reckoned with. Anyone who thinks this was a beat down is wrong, and the game felt like a 14 to 21 point win for SMCC rather than a 35. I know I've said a lot of things with a little "spice" towards Clinton, but that was probably the 2nd or 3rd best team that SMCC faced. Not quite on the level of LCC, but as solid if not more solid than Huron. Congrats again on a great season.

    November 8, 2014 at 5:07 PM

I don't know what game you were watching, but it WAS a blowout. And if you win a game by 35 points, well, there's your proof. Maybe it's a different kind of mathematics that they teach at SMCC, but I could be wrong.

As far as assembling an all star roster, c'mon people, does being Catholic, and SMCC being the ONLY Catholic high school in Monroe County, count as a reason for sending our kids there?? My father went to CC. My brother and I went to CC. I chose to send my son to CC and I'll send my youngest son there when he reaches high school age. The funny thing is, I see most of my classmates at the games watching their kids on the field, too. So I know I'm not the only one. I never once got a visit from a coach, assistant coach, trainer, alumnus, or the like. My son took the placement test, was accepted, we paid our tuition bill, and he went out for the football team. That's it. We have been lucky enough to beat every team but one this year, and unfortunately for you, Clinton fans, it wasn't in the playoffs. You guys decided to raid our blog and stir the kettle, so why wouldn't you expect a little payback? He who laughs last, laughs best. As Nelson Muntz said, "HA-HA".

    1. The only reason SMCC stays in the Huron League is they don't want to travel to away games if they joined a Catholic school league. That coming from a SMCC dad! And- Why do it, when this league is soo easy. (Coming from the same dad) Go play in your Catholic league, we want Trenton and Trenton wants in.

  23. No-it's not the 2nd or 3rd best team that SMCC has faced. That's a joke. Much better teams in the Huron league. Clinton would have had at least four loses in the Huron league. Yes it was a BLOWOUT-your team got SPANKED. It was NOT close. If you need to play could have-would have-should have in your head guess what Clinton still loses the game by a RUNNING CLOCK-35 POINTS.

  25. Sure, Clinton gave up an interception, and sure CC scored just before the half, but you can't throw what if questions out there. All the interception shows is how good CCs defense, and the score before half time just shows the clutch offense. SMCC didn't get lucky on these plays, they're just that good!

Also, there is no 4th home game. The semi-finals are at a neutral field. Although Huron would get to wear home colors at the game if they made it because of the playoff points.

  26. No, round 4 games are semi's they are at a neutral turf field on Saturday they try to get field half way between school's but not always

  27. Yes, there are kids from other districts but they were never a student in those districts because they attended Catholic grade schools. Seriously, some of you are delusional if you think CC has assembled this dream team. In addition, most of the starters' have at least one parent who is an alum and for the vast majority, it is their moms who are the alums!

  28. Huron "parents are proud and don't use this blog to boast or argue". Really? Does any of this ring a bell?
From the blog in September prior to Huron/CC game:

Robinson is that rare breed of quickness and power, he is a tough back. The Qb is the best in the league. Huron is absolutely huge on the line with fast LB's.

If you think huron wont beat smcc you are mistaken. don't let the past aid in your decision. this team is like no other huron team in history and will beat cc rather easily.

    31 -14 Huron wins
Well, this year the cream of the crop from the 867 is very good. Especially in football. The Chiefs have come along way in their program and with all the hard work, from the 1st/2ng grade flag program on up to the Varsity, it will all finally payoff this year. This weekend will be 1 more step.

Talk about boastful, 939 poster. If Trenton was on this blog ragging on you, you would defend your team on this blog just like YOU DID brag and argue to defend your team.

    1. Those are predictions. SMCC parents dont talk football. All they do is brag about is their school and how they "dont recruit". Those few posts compared to all of yours. Really. I'm supporting the boys from the Huron League in the playoffs and that includes SMCC. Dont be so bitter, be a little humble. Anything can happen on any day. Good luck SMCC and GO CHIEFS!

Ya'll are so funny. Yes the score was 50-15 , but anyone who was there knows a few critical events & it coudlve been a diff. Game. The interception that clinton threw while driving (their qbs 1st of the season) led to a smcc score a few playe later that made it 29-7 . Clinton took the kickoft back to make 29-15 with 1:35 left. If clintons D could have held and kept the score at 29-15 at the half & get the ball to start the 3rd it could have potentially been a 29-22 game when smcc got the ball again. However, they couldnt hold smcc and gave up a score with :15 sec left and went down 36-15 at half. That was a backbreaker & basically ended the game. The second half waa basically a 7-0 game until the end. SO that game was a lot closer than the score shows. HATS off to SMCC though their line dominated on both sides the entire night. CLINTONS success was def. On the outsides and why they ran 4 straight plays between the tackles when they had a 1st and goal from the 5 in the 3rd qtr is mind boggling…..however all said and done lets see how good smcc is when they play another private school with the exact same enrollment next week when they face JLC…..should be a great game with the winner eventually playing for the D6 title in a few weeks.

    November 8, 2014 at 1:50 PM

Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda. Y'all got lots of excuses in Clinton. If my Aunt had(bleep), she'd be my Uncle.

  30. Playoff points are earned during the regular season to determine who plays at home. The playoff points are only used during the first three rounds. The semi-final games are always played at a neutral site. They try and keep the driving distance the same for each school for the neutral site of the semi-final.

  31. Do playoff points determine home games? DeWitt lost to Mason. I know the Chiefs need to take care of round three first and mostly. But could this mean a 4th home game?

  32. If you think SMCC recruits talent from across the state to play football for them, you're so short-sighted. Sure, kids from other districts have the ability to come to SMCC, but Coach Giarmo isn't seeking out these kids. Most of these guys come to SMCC because of the Catholic education, first and foremost. Is the good football team a bonus? Of course. But it isn't some powerhouse that pumps out D1 athletes for college football. It's a DIVISION 6 FOOTBALL TEAM. All the comments about asterisks and recruiting that's been going on is wrong and just sour.

  33. Ya'll are so funny. Yes the score was 50-15 , but anyone who was there knows a few critical events & it coudlve been a diff. Game. 34. when a team is 35 points ahead it is a rule that there must be a running clock. so yes there was one. No you didn't not have the second string in. unless you count 21, 10, 44 and 14 as your second string. 21 made the hit on carrabino as he was going in the endzone.. nice try.

  35. LOL, 12 is the Tight end.. he weighs 180-185. 52(robinson) has been hurt since week 5. Hasn't played a down. 55 doesn't even play get on the field.

    12-70-56-51 are all 180lbs.

you got beat up by a better coached team

  36. Congrats to Huron on first district title. With the talent in the program it should not be the last. But if anybody thinks the coach of the cheifs is one of the best in the league or the area then they did not see the first half last night. If Kalbfleish will stay out of his teams way they can play with anybody. His poor decision making was overshadowed by speed from #5 and #10. Everytime he makes a dumb mistake he yells louder at his players to divert attention from him. A fake fieldgoal on 4th and goal from the 1 yardline? Your team bailed you out coach….stay out of their way and let them win a regional.

  37. You got kids from Jefferson district, airport district, bedford district, a few kids from outside Monroe county. One from GI. Come on dude. You have assembled an all star team.

With talent from all over and $8,000 a year you better win.

School of choice benefits perhaps 2-4 kids at most in a sport.
I could name 10 that start for you, not from Monroe.

Keep up the winning but there will always be an asterisk****

  38. High enough score for a running clock and I was standing in front of it facing away… but pretty sure the actual running clock rule isn't in effect for playoffs.

  39. I sure love that Huron team. They play hard and with confidence. They remain humble and impress us more every week. Parents are proud and dont use this blog to boast or argue. Way to show class Huron. Best of luck next week, hard work pays off!

I don't know what your issue is, man.

    "50, 52, 55 and 71 are all over 180."

First of all, who cares if they weigh 20 more pounds than they do? The fact is, SMCC doesn't have some massive beast of a line that destroys everybody. They're not scrawny on the line, but smaller than most other lines in the HL. Can we move on from guessing the weight of some 17 year old kids?

"If you want some respect, quit bragging."

Dude, we're excited fans or alumni of the school. The Clinton fans came to the HL blog, talked a bunch of trash towards SMCC, and then got beat by 5 TDs. You expect us to not tell the Clinton fans "I told you so"? Furthermore, Clinton was ranked 3rd in D6 at the beginning of the playoffs, SMCC at 6th. Clinton was good, and SMCC beat them soundly. If you don't want to see fans supporting a team, don't come to the blog.

"By the way, I was there. No running clock."

Well, according to MHSAA rules, when a team is up by 35 points in the second half, the running clock starts. Regardless of whether it did or didn't, it should have.

"Also, not worth $32,000 to win a few games. Thanks anyway."

If you think the tuition is just "to win a few games", then yeah, I wouldn't pay that either, and I have a hard time seeing all the parents at SMCC paying that much, too. Here's the beauty of the tuition at SMCC…you don't have to pay it!!!!!!! Oh man, you really lucked out! You can send your kid to the public school and you don't have to pay that money! Wow! Sarcasm aside, you don't have to pay that tuition, don't complain about that.

"You only got to 50 because Clinton put in the 2nd string and Carrabino wanted the TD's"

Man, you are REALLY reaching on this one. I'm sure Carrabino went up to Jack Giarmo and said, "Hey coach, I wanna score more points, LEMME DO IT!" That's ridiculous, man. Go figure, a team wanted to score more points on an opponent. Did they or did they not end the game in Victory formation?

I don't know what's got you so upset over SMCC? I think you're a Huron fan(?) in which case, put your differences aside and root for the league! When playoffs arrive, you don't root for your team and hope everyone else fails. The success of other teams validate your tough wins or tough losses. I suggest you lighten up, enjoy the Huron victory, and root for the remaining HL teams in the playoffs.

  41. Hey buddy, with school of choice no school has any district lines. You just had a running clock slapped on you. Your kids sure did run their mouths during the game while our kids were running the score board. Also, your baseball team will suffer the same fate.

  42. 12 is not on the line,
    50, 52, 55 and 71 are all over 180.

If you want some respect, quit bragging.

By the way, I was there. No running clock.

Also, not worth $32,000 to win a few games. Thanks anyway.

You only got to 50 because Clinton put in the 2nd string and Carrabino wanted the TD's.

  43. So shocking that the Clinton fans are already making excuses and talking about baseball victories. You got outplayed–move on. Your fast guys were indeed fast but fast wasn't enough. And for the record, all our players live in the Monroe district and/or have an alum as a parent. If you want to blame someone or something, it should be our French Catholic settlers or our Italian Catholic families. Damn them for making generations of strong and determined Falcons and Kestrels!

  44. Whats a stosento? You win next week, you will get some respect.
    Apples to Apples next week.

I will be in New Boston.

    1. It's my university id, it automatically logs me in. Are you a Huron fan? If so I don't know why you're being a little sour towards me. I think both SMCC and Huron are teams that deserve respect. I hope Huron moves forward next week.

  45. Why is it every school outside the league thus far has acted like cry babies getting spanked by CC? It'd one excuse after another. SMCC is a private school in a public school league. They were league Champs this year and the 2 years before this Milan was back to back league champs. It changes every year and just so happens this year CC has their best team. Don't cry and make excuses for as to why you lost. You came to the HURON LEAGUE BLOG and started the Chit chat about how badly you were gonna beat CC and how great your 2 RBs were… don't get mad because they made you eat your words.

As for Trenton fans, it was nice to see you also on the blog and boast your team and praise how great they We're and how Huron won't best your QB.. Well good game..

Do the league proud CC and Huron. Keep pushing and working hard.

    KC

  46. SMCC has no school district. Should be like the 70s and early 80s when enrollment was multiplied by 1.5

That would even things out again.
SMCC won, wow what a surprise.

Next week we will see how far you have really come. Another school with no school district and the exact same enrollment.

  47. Just like you were going to beat us tonight with those two fast backs-HAHA

Hope to see you there-that way you can watch us win again-this time not against your team through as we just SPANKED YOU BY 35 POINTS-WOW A FIVE TOUCHDOWN VICTORY OVER A GREAT TEAM LIKE CLINTON-HAHA

  48. John Lako got hurt for SMCC. Looked like he had cramps in his right leg. Never came back. Looks like a minor injury though.

    1. So you, as a Clinton fan, are going to a game when your team is no longer in the playoffs just to boo the team that beat you? I can't think of anything more pathetic than that.

  49. And which kids on the SMCC kids aren't from Monroe? If you think a Division 6 school recruits talent from across the state to run a T offense, that's ridiculous. Good season, but SMCC manhandled Clinton tonight. Not just a bigger line, but a better defense and overall better team. Show some class and give credit where credit is due. Go Falcons!

Huron, way to represent the Huron League against a solid Trenton team. I'm excited that you guys are having success in the playoffs, it bodes well for the league and the growth of your program. Congrats again. Onto regionals!!!

  50. I dont think so. NO way 3 or 4 guys weigh over 180. especially # 50.

Don't downplay it. You have a big line and some good weapons. Your on the road at Christi next week. Lets see what you got out there.

Huron gets another home game. Good Job Chiefs. Off to New Boston next week.

  51. And all of our kids are from SMCC

GO FALCONS–WE PLAY IN THE NEXT ROUND.

If your backs were so fast they should have been able to run through and around that bigger line.

Your team was just not good enough.

    You got spanked!!

  52. Thats ok. We will get you again in baseball. If you even get that far.

You had a bigger line tonite. Not much we can do about that. Proud to say we had a good season and all our kids are from Clinton.

    GO SKINS!!
