Grosse Ile Preview

Grosse Ile is coming off of a 7-3 season that saw the Red Devils qualify for the playoffs three out of the last four seasons. Coach Jon Bodner does an excellent job with the numbers he has been given and has quietly won 32 games in the last four seasons.

Grosse Ile may just have the best junior class in the league, but only have 7 seniors on the squad. Look for junior Justin Moores to make the switch from WR to QB in 2015. He found the end zone 9 times during the 2014 campaign. Fellow junior Andrew Vollmerhausen is a bruising back who rushed for nearly 600 yards as a sophomore and scored 5 TD’s. Rounding out what may be one of the better trios in the league is 6’1″ 215 lb two way junior lineman Dominic Trombley.

Seniors that will contribute for the Red Devils this season are Neil Smorch and Kuvon Tucker who combined for 9 TD’s last season. Tucker is coming off an excellent season in track and will be one of the fastest players in the league this year.

This is a typical Grosse Ile football team. As usual, they have some great players, but the question is do they have enough good players. Week one will be a big game as the Red Devils travel to play a solid Parma Jackson County Western team. Prediction 5-4

  1. Heard that Parma will have their best team in school history. Former Dearborn coach Dave Misfed has built a program although it's taken him some time much like it did Bodner. This could be a shoutout as Parma returns 8 on D and 6 on O. If GI can't throw the ball, they could have a week 1 loss.

  2. The Devils have been playing as though Mitroka would never graduate and didn't plan ahead. The new QB has been a WR since little league and only had the opportunity to sub in for Mitroka last season. He's an excellent athlete, but it will take some time before a passing game can be in sync. It's a tough adjustment.
