SMCC @ Huron

This is the Huron League Game of the Week. SMCC (3-0) is coming off of a 43-12 victory over Flat Rock while Huron (2-1) is still sore from a 31-26 loss to Grosse Ile. SMCC won last year’s game by a convincing score of 40-7. The Falcons lead the all-time series 45-1.

SMCC keeps getting better every week. They will look to pound the ball on the ground and be opportunistic with the pass against the Chief secondary.

Huron must find a way to recover after being scorched on the ground last week. On offense look for the Chiefs to dig a little deeper in the playbook this week and get some of their lesser known weapons involved against the Falcon secondary.

Early on, I thought Huron had the team to beat the Falcons for only the second time in school history. Now I’m not so sure. This should be a good game, but I will side with history. Pick SMCC 26 Huron 17

  1. If there is one thing I know, it's that Huron has been BLESSED when it comes to kickers. They usually have a good pick sometimes from the Soccer team, and others have been full time football players with a talent to blast the ball. If they're in range, and can't score, they'll go for the field goal every time.

  2. I was unaware Huron had that good of a kicker. Guess we will have to force a 2 point conversion situation or block it. Doesn't matter then.

  3. While the Huron League title could very well be on the line tonight in this one, I would rather see a good game and both teams learn a few things about themselves in order to prepare for the playoffs. Huron and CC both represented this league fantastically last year. Huron will make the adjustments needed to improve their rushing defense. CC will get a chance to see what kind of team they really are this year, facing a worthy opponent. This game should be seen as a very good opportunity for both teams to gauge themselves and prepare. Good luck to both. I have CC 14-12

  4. I think smarts, discipline, and talent go a long way and CC has all three. yeah, they could use more size on the line, but I don't think it will keep them from winning.

  5. I was the QB of the 1 Out of the 46 games. I have watched this match up for 38 games that i can remember. Huron has had some HUGE size advantages many times during the late 70's and early 80's only to lose in close games or overtime. I.e. Paul haddix returning a kick off in ot for game winner for cc….i remember crying on the ride home for that one….the question is heart! Does Huron have the heart? Do they have the "rocky eye of the Tiger"? Do the have the will to destroy? I haven't seen it with this regime! When we won we had 17 players, and our biggest lineman was 170lbs at best. They had 40 plus players and a line that averaged 225ish. Phil Collins "I can feel it coming in the air tonite…hold on". If I could give pregame speech…..walk in with labeau, macguire, and a few of the other guys from the ONE…..this year would be # 2……..42 – 6 ……just like '86!!!!

  6. BN: I don't follow your logic one bit. If Huron had beaten CC, you would have chosen CC, but since Huron lost to an 0-2 GI squad, they're now the favorites to you? I don't get how having a team lose instills more confidence in them from you. Just doesn't make sense.

I can explain it to you but I cant understand it for you.

  7. I believe BN is basing his assumption on the fact that Huron was his pick to win the league. I'm sure he considers the GI game an anomaly and that Huron will play well. I think Huron will play well also. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they won this game. I liked the match up at the beginning of the season, but logic told me after their loss to GI that I couldn't pick them to win this game against SMCC.

  8. It isn't riverviews players that are great on defense. It's the scheme they ran that totally stopped CC. If the Huron coaches are smart enough to watch that film and see what riverviews did then this could be a great game.

    17-10 CC

  9. Man you guys really like to go against history, don't you? 42-1 in SMCCs favor is a pretty insane record to choose against. Although I can see why many would predict Huron to win this one. You have to look at match-ups and statistics to determine who has the advantage going into this game. Of course it won't predict the game, but it will give you a better shot of correctly predicting the outcome.

11:23PM hit it on the money, pointing out that Huron gave up over 300(!) rushing yards to GI. The arguments that Huron was "looking ahead" are bs. You don't give up 300 yards to an 0-2 team and blame that just on preparation. If GI can pick up that kind of yardage, it's quite plausible to think SMCC will do the same.

BN: I don't follow your logic one bit. If Huron had beaten CC, you would have chosen CC, but since Huron lost to an 0-2 GI squad, they're now the favorites to you? I don't get how having a team lose instills more confidence in them from you. Just doesn't make sense.

I won't even address the SMCC "size problems" anymore. At this point I just assume it's people trying to be funny…and it kind of is.

    SMCC 34 – Huron 21

  10. I have heard enough about this line size crap. Everybody from SMCC is always downplaying everything about there team every year. Its just a set up for more glory when they win. Whatever ?

The bottom line is the Huron needs to realize SMCC is nothing special. They are not superior to any team. They have the same kinds of kids as the rest of us. SMCC can be intimidating and that needs to go. Jefferson is never intimidated by them and the games are close almost every year, regardless of records. If other teams come out this way against them, success will happen. Huron was nervous last year and made several mistakes in the first half. Too much to mentally overcome.
Huron remembers that and will destroy SMCC this year.

    Huron 42, SMCC 21

    1. I don't think Smcc fans are the ones "downplaying"everything. I hear alot of other teams fans saying Smcc has small lines for the last few years. SMCC 28 HURON 24

    2. Last week, GI realized that Huron was nothing special. Another wise man once said, "Don't count your chickens before they're hatched." All the downplaying is not being done by the SMCC faithful, it is being done, however, by all of the haters, trying to rationalize a good reason why their own team can win against the Falcons. Any team can beat the other on any given Friday night. Remember, these are 16 to 18 year old kids, and they will make mistakes. The key is to make less than your opponent at key times of the game.

  11. Lets not forget.. when compared to Huron's line, SMCC is VERY VERY VERY small.
The size difference will come into play. It is a lot to ask for a 190lb lineman to block 260lb all day.

If Huron had beaten GI, then I would have picked CC, but since they lost, I will have to go with Huron in this one. Huron has been very close to winning the last few times at home vs CC. I think this is the year.

  12. Smcc has always had a small line, and look what they have been able to do in the past, no team in the huron league will even be a challenge this year.

  13. If u give up almost 300 yds on the ground against GI, I'm not sure how confident I would be stopping SMCC. Riverview held SMCC to 64 rushing yds, but I dont think people understand how good the Riverview D is until you see them. I'm sure Huron will be diving at the legs of the SMCC line all game. Don't think it will matter. Turnovers on the Huron side could make this one ugly. SMCC 35 Huron 10

  14. I certainly hope Huron has watched their film from GI and saw their mistakes. Defense has to step it up. Lineman need to blow the line up, and defensive backs need to contain, and keep their eyes open. If RV can hold them to under 100yard rushing, Huron could be capable of he same if they work hard. I'm hoping Huron comes out. I'm gonna say 24-21 Huron.

  15. That's bold prediction. I like Huron in this one. But I think it's more like 24-21. Not sure how good Hurons defense is and they may have trouble at first. Good luck to both teams.

  16. Chris that is an accurate pick on the score, personally I believe Huron will win just because they are at home and have a better kicker so the offense doesn't need to force anything anything

  17. Why do people keep underestimating SMCCs lack of size on the line? I don't get it. I expect this one to go down to the wire, I think Huron will comeout fired up and erase the taste of last week. Huron 28 SMCC 21. EM

  18. Smcc to small up front on both sides of the ball.. It will be tough sledding for the Falcons.. Huron wins this one going away.. 42-14 Huron..

    1. "SMCC too small" has been said before, and unless you're just trolling, you know they've rolled the league time and time again being "small". They maybe "small" but they still have us beat in the all time record. Not to take away from Huron, but use your head a little.
