I like that the Huron League has a rivalry game in week 8.
Congrats to SMCC on another league title.
Did Milan wake up at halftime?
Looks like Riverview stole won along with the Colvin Cup. Congrats!
Did Huron sleep through the 1st quarter.
Verna’s?
Sounds like Airport played really really well.
Grosse Ile didn’t give up that cup without a fight.
Hats off to Flat Rock, they just got tired.
Congrats to Riverview, SMCC and Milan for making the playoffs.
Huron has an outside chance at the playoffs, but will need some help.
Cold beautiful night for football on Friday.
Flat Rock’s new scoreboard is awesome!
Week Nine is here! Let’s support all Huron League teams!
I predicted a three point Spartan win, four points is just as good.
Thank you Vegas for the very generous betting line! Life is good!
If you insist on crying about the State/UM Game please click here: Stress Relief
Why is this still being talked about? C'mon guys, it hurt for a couple days but it's time to move on! Michigan placed themselves in a position to win but MSU executed that last play better than Michigan did. Give MSU credit for that play and for being in a position late in the game where a play like that gives them the win.
Yes, it stung terribly, and I mean TERRIBLY. Yes, this play will be hung over Michigan's heads for years by Sparty fans (and OSU fans…weirdly). Yes, you won't see another end of game like this for another 30 years.
Welcome to college football. Gotta go ¯_(ツ)_/¯ and move on to the next one.
Riverview Alum,
After watching the video of you blubbering, I am happy you are around to write that post. We had you on suicide watch for a minute.
Mike D'Antoni
October 21, 2015 at 8:58 AM said the smartest college comment I have seen all day… MSU got smart and hired an OSU guy to run their program… LOL!!! Just like UM did all those years ago with Bo.
This is the one singular line that I have never really considered in all these years, but it makes so much sense. Not only do you go into Ohio and raid the coffers for some of your best players, but you also raid the coffers for your best coaches. How funny is that?
So if State "clearly" was the better team then why did it take a miracle, one in a million last ten second play for State to win that game? The play which SHOULD have been a personal foul on State for running over the center with his head down. You can talk about your meaningless stats all day long. State simply did not deserve that win. State is a great football team, and yes they have won the past few years. But looks look at some facts. Michigan leads the series 68-35-5.nWho has the longest winning streak in this rivalry? Still Michigan at 14. What rivalry? Michigan owns this. And if Harbaugh continues improving this teamthe way he has already, I hope State enjoyed their time in the spotlight because it will soon come to an end. End of argument.
On the topic of high school football I doubt Huron will make the playoffs. The reason they have Summit on their schedule is because it should be an easy win and it gives the seniors and other players who don't see alot of playing time a chance to get in there and have fun. Lets not forget what high school sports are REALLY about. Riverview on the other hand has a nice challenge this week. Should be a good game and will prepare them well for playoffs. Good luck to all Huron Leage teams this week.
-Riverview Alum and UofM Fan.
Of course I'm stupid, just not dumb.
Chris you are stupid
-another pussboy
On 97.1 Brady Hoke said he would have gone for it instead of punting it away. News flash Brady!!! Of course you look really smart by saying that after the punter muffed the damn snap! If he would have got the punt off and Michigan won would you have said they should've gone for it?? Come on!! (Trying to keep this Big Ten thing rolling)
Just kidding. I wouldn't do that to you. 😉
I love when I throw the bait out there and it gets snatched up. I love technology. Just trying to to figure if I should keep your identity to myself or share it with the readers. You made my day. Thanks for reading.
Hook, line, and sinker!! This blog is solid entertainment. In all honesty I love it. Love seeing everyone's opinions. However, let's just say you did make everyone attach a name to their post. I really don't think it would be as opinionated and fun as it is. It would be "politically correct". And kinda boring. Keep up the good work! -pussboy
It's the same anonymous puss boy-not another one. I have big balls but I can not attach my name to these simply because of older posts and opinions that I have stated on here. My posts are always my honest opinion-however my honest opinion could get me in a bit of a bind with the school I represent. -pussboy
Look everyone another anonymous puss boy. C'mon buddy show us your balls. If you have any.
You're right Harbaugh is winning with Hoke's players. Those classes were very solid. Overall class rankings 2011-14; 21, 7, 5, and 31.
Of course the win was a miracle, but UM fan acts like Michigan was obviously the better team when that just wasn't the case.
I'm not sure why I respond to anonymous UM posters. Your obviously not confident in your argument to add a name. Seems typical.
Actually you're the one that started this whole argument with"the better team won". You respond to my anonymous posts because you're a Spartan slappy and that's exactly how you all react! It's hilarious. I'm gonna keep this argument going for so long that you're gonna have to change the name of the blog to the Big Ten Football blog!
Here's the difference between Michigan fans and State fans. Michigan fans would admit it and say "we got lucky" to pull out that win. State fans have to sit here and constantly defend themselves with "the better team won". It's hilarious! Every single State fan I know has that mentality. (can't wait to read more ignorant State posts that are about to flow in)
It's the exact opposite. UM fans favorite saying is "Yeah, but….". Quit crying. You lost. Get over it. You've had so much success over the last 45 years, that you're not used to hard times. Most of you can't remember what things were like before Bo got there. I know I can't. ALL programs have down periods. You're in one now, but things are looking up. Take your lumps and quit trying to rationalize why you got beat. MSU finally got smart and did what UM did 47 years ago. They hired an OSU guy to run their football program.
I'm not trying to rationalize why we got beat. I know exactly how we got beat! On a muffed handling of the snap! Duh!
State fans will keep it going even when they beat Michigan 6 out of 7 years or whatever it is. Hilarious!! It's like you guys have to defend yourselves even when you win. Here us Michigan fans are excited as hell because we finally have something to watch on Saturday. We were 10 seconds away from being a top 8 team in the country and the talk would have been Michigan making the playoffs at this point. Excuse us for finally being excited about Michigan football. Congrats to State on pulling out a miracle. That's exactly what it was-a miracle! Go Blue!!!
You want the now? Harbaugh is winning right NOW with Hoke's guys. When he gets his players Michigan will be even better. Theres the now Chris
Chris you are a typical MSU fan. EVERYONE is saying "Michigan State had better stats, that means they should've won." Incorrect. Michigan had less stats but played better. Michigan will contend for a CFP spot in these next years to come. If I am a MSU or OSU fan I'm peeing my pants because Harbaugh is winning with a crapy 5-7 team. MSU got lucky. Nothing else to be said but GO BLUE!!!!
Chris, these UM idiots will argue with you for the rest of our natural lives and then some. Shut them up with one word…..SCOREBOARD!!!!
End of argument.
Now, can we PLEASE get back to the Huron League?
Most likely. I don't think many people have a reaction like that after the game. Shock / disbelief is the feeling I had for most of the night, not agonizing sadness right after like this guy, that's a whole different level of sadness.
Calhoun is a close 2nd. I'd rank the best defensive players between the two teams(in order) as Lewis, Calhoun, McDowell/Peppers.
MSU played a good game defensively and Cook was outstanding offensively, but they were drastically outplayed in special teams. It's ironic that special teams was the winning factor for Michigan leading the first 59:50 and also the losing factor in the last 0:10.
Hoke did quite well recruiting outside of QB, as you said. However, the O-line is seriously lacking depth. I agree Golson is a better player than Rudock, but doesn't really fit the mold Harbaugh was looking for, as you said. It does make you wonder just how good this team would be with an elite QB. But that's not the case, so dreams will be dreams.
You're right in saying that State isn't going away. Dantonio has a way of getting every bit of talent out of his players. What's crazy is that Calhoun and Cook are probably MSU's best players and these guys were 3-stars out of high school. The best receiver in the B1G last year (Lippett) was a 3-star. Obviously stars only mean so much, but it's not like these guys were already super-athletes coming into MSU. Combine that with the fact that you guys still attract 5-star talent (McDowell & Burbridge) and it's a team that produces.
The only reason I'm more bullish than ever on Michigan comes down to recruiting and player development. Harbaugh is a big name that's already produced an impressive recruiting boom. How the Michigan/MSU in-state recruiting battle moves forward will be interesting to watch. To see how players grow (especially QBs) under Harbaugh will be even more interesting. These next few years will be a battle between Michigan and MSU.
As far as going back to the NFL, I can understand why people think he'd go back…he has never stuck around too long at one place. After reading Endzone, I just can't see him leaving until he feels he has accomplished at Michigan. I don't know what that is, but it's at least a Big Ten championship, probably more. No one here will run him out of town…there's just too much love for the guy. Harbaugh leaving Michigan will be when he wants to, and it won't be for at least another 3-4 years if at all, at least that's my opinion.
He must have lost something. Although if he was giving 7.5 he would have lost already. Maybe he bet with a bookie which means they were going to break his leg or something.
I would pick Shalique Calhoun as the best defensive player, but would concede that Lewis is.
All my post have been in jest. I thought MSU played well enough to win, but was starting to text a UM friend nice game and congrats. The muffed punt was just the greatest or worst thing ever depending on which side you sit.
I have always thought Harbaugh was a good coach. Hoke didn't leave the cupboard bare, just without a QB. Harbaugh tried to find someone. I think Golson from ND would have been a better choice, but Harbaugh wanted a pro style QB. Imagine if they would have pulled a Wisconsin type coup and gotten a Russell Wilson type.
I think the rivalry will flourish with two good coaches at each school. State isn't going away because Harbaugh is there. Dantonio can coach, kids like him and quite frankly, he is a winner. My fear or yours is will Harbaugh bolts back to the NFL. You know he can't stand the fact the his brother took a Super Bowl from him.
I guess we are, Chris hahaha that guy in the video must have bet his house on Michigan or something to warrant a reaction like that.
Higher ranked team: Yes
Expected to be better: Not by S&P+ or Vegas
Best offensive player: Absolutely: Cook is a monster. Burbridge was the second best offensive player.
Best defensive player: Disagree: Jourdan Lewis is an All-American corner.
Best coach won: Subjective 🙂
Best stats: Yep
Most points: Yep
Are we going to keep this going? So your logic is the better team didn't win because you are a UM fan? Stop being this guy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgiM_ypFsRQ
Seems about right. How about this? The higher ranked team won, the team that was expected to be better all along won, the team with the best offensive player won, the team with the best defensive player won, the team with the best coach won, the team with the best stats that day won and…………wait for it, the team with the most points won.
SMCC is a Class C school and is at 93 Playoff points, Beating 7 Class B schools and one Class A school. How do you calculate the points? Below is the link about points but I don't see how it is added up.
http://www.mhsaa.com/Portals/0/Documents/FB/playoff.pdf?ver=2015-08-17-104725-367
I just love the nonsense about how the better team won. So what you're telling me is the team that has more yards is always the better team?? I don't think so. Having more yards in a game does not make you the better team. There's the kicking game, field position, red zone offense and red zone defense. There's a lot to factor into a game than offensive stats. What these Spartan slappy's are trying to tell us is Oregon is always the better team because they put up gaudy stats. Rich Rod's Arizona Wildcats are always the better team because of stats. Come on!!!
and who is 5-2 while the other is 7-0? Go Green Go White.
One question on Michigan/MSU game ? Don't care about any stat. Who was without a doubt supposed to win that game (by pre-season predictions and rankings) ???? Who has defied doubters, risen up through the rankings and came damn close to the upset. GO BLUE.
Amen to that!
Can we talk about HS sports please? State stole victory from defeat on a crazy last play. good job state! go beat OSU and whoever else you play too.
Week 9 is upon us, lets get back to high school football.
Sounds like one team is selling hope while the other is selling results. Mike D'Antoni
Typical UM rhetoric straight out of the Michigan playbook.
You're right Chris, MSU is the now. They have been the better Michigan team for the better part of the past 8 years. You can hold those years high and keep the Paul Bunyan trophy for another year, you did win the game. But after that game, what team is everyone talking about? They're talking about Michigan giving one away, not MSU taking one from the Wolverines. How Harbaugh, taking over a 5-7 team, is already competitive with a very good MSU program.
If I'm an MSU fan, I'm terrified…it took a fluke last second play to beat Michigan. A future pro QB that was 29-3 with the program was on his way out of the Big House with a 4th loss as a starter before that final play allowed him to escape with a win. Again, MSU should be happy about that win…they played well and played until the very end of the game. They found a way to win. But things are changing. Highly-touted recruits at that Michigan game came away extremely impressed with the program and moved up on every one of their lists. When's the last time that Michigan had recruits excited and impressed after a loss?
A Michigan team with: a QB that Harbaugh has chosen and nurtured for over a year, an offense returning 4 lineman and losing barely anybody, an elite defense returning 8 starters, and a truly elite coaching staff is something I would not want to face in the future. MSU better enjoy this year in the very dim spotlight that they always desperately try to get under, it'll be time to change the lightbulb and switch over to Ann Arbor soon enough.
Typical Michigan, first the History Channel, now the Future Channel. I will take the Now Channel.
I said I would buy a beer for the best "than Jefferson beats SMCC" joke. The winner was "Cisco coming back to run the spread" and "Airport JV." I showed up, but no one else did. I stayed an hour having one drink and some food, then went home. When I was there, I posted a that I was wearing a Spartan hoodie just letting whoever know that I was there to buy the drinks. That's all. Nothing happened. The food is good.
Alright MSU had bettered stats, but MICHIGAN STILL ALMOST WON! That says how much Michigan deserved that win. Harbaugh is winning with Hokes 5-7 team last year. MSU and OSU better watch out cause Harbaugh WILL bring U of M back. All of you haters It's Michigan's turn. We are 3-5 years away from being a very very very great ball team. Just wait Chris.
What happened at vernas????
Some fun games this week. I haven't been to Riverbank Stadium for a game in years, and never for a Milan game. I hope everyone gets out to a game this week!
Looks like the center created the early contact. (No Foul)
Let's get behind Milan for the AA game of the week on Mlive. SMCC fan.
http://www.diehardsport.com/college-football/michigan/did-refs-blow-call-on-games-final-play/
Chris, did you see this come across your Facebook newsfeed? lol What do you think?
KC
Not trying to be a jerk to you, Chris, or KC. You guys are good guys 🙂 You're right KC, Peppers is a playmaker and I guarantee he's been practicing with the offense for a while now, just waiting for a game to spring him. He added a nice spark and I hope he continues to be a weapon on offense.
I'm still hurting from the game…that has to be the roughest way I've ever seen a team lose a game. Probably worse than that Auburn FG return against Alabama. Just heartbreaking. Hope I never see it again. However, it gives me perspective on things…people are giving poor Blake O'Neil death threats. How terrible is that? It's a GAME!! A GAME!! It sickens me to see that sort of reaction…despicable and embarrassing. Every fanbase has those terrible people and it's disgusting. So yeah, I'm hurt by a loss but glad I'm not one of those fans, and guarantee I will never become one of those. /endrant
Best of luck to all the HL teams in week 9:
Milan / Huron / Jefferson: All play winless teams and should win comfortably.
Flat Rock: Should get a win over 1-8 Hazel Park.
Grosse Ile: Should beat Southfield Brandford Academy (Only beat Summit by 6).
Airport: Toss-up if Airport plays like they did against Milan. Otherwise, advantage Tecumseh.
Riverview: Co-GOTW against a pretty solid River Rouge team. They've only beaten one team with a winning record, but played a good, close game against a solid 7-1 Pontiac Notre Dame Prep team, losing 30-33. Toss-up.
SMCC: Co-GOTW against the monster Tony Polijan and LCC. If CC wins, they are a state championship caliber team. It'll be very interesting to see how well they compete against that level of talent this year.
I don't know anything about the Jefferson coaching situation.
I don't know anything about the GI/Riverview hand shake.
Hey Chris, we at SMCC all saw Tony Poljan last season at LCC. He is definitely the real deal. My question is about his supporting cast. Are they as good as last year? I know that they've lost a game, but are they beatable? Have you heard anything?
Sad to say but Huron will not have enough playoff points to qualify. Many teams will be chosen at 5-4 this year however it doesnt look like Huron will be one. in other words… GET SUMMIT OFF YOUR SCHEDULE.
-bn
Milan with a TOUGH draw this week. Robi then Rouge. ouch
-bn
I think it will change up a bit but I believe Milan gets it done against both. Robichaurd might be the better team than River R. We have to have a great game this week to carry some momentum into the play offs.
#9 Dad
It all equalized i would that 13 second play was bs. his fwd progress was clearly stopped take that away and they get a fg then its 21-19 anyway. good makeup play MSU way to will a victory. way to not quit. way to beat mich 6 out of 7.
Other stats? What other stats? You proved my point for me.
How about these stats. UM started 8 seniors on O. They started 7 on D, would have been 8, but Ross had to sit out the first half. Kicker and Punter both seniors. The true rebuild starts next season. UM should finish 9-3 with a tough bowl match up most likely with a Florida or Georgia. I anticipate 9-4 with no significant wins. Harbaugh is a very good coach, but the real coaching job starts after a bunch of Hoke's seniors graduate.
Harbaugh will rebuild the program, but this season looks a lot like Hoke's first year with Rich Rod's players.
P.S. Don't be surprised if State loses to Indiana at home next Saturday. The young secondary scares me along with the Hoosier offense.
Chris Shultz eveyone on michigams defense is back except for the linebackers. Every D lineman and ever player in the secondary is back next year. 9 out of 11 defensive starters are back. They all have a redshirt year left. Henry, Glasgow, wormly, godin, charlton, Lewis, peppers, stribling, hill and Wilson will all be back.
On offense rudock and the center are the only seniors. They have guys listed as senior but their have a year left because if a redshirt. 9 starters on O back and 9 on D will be back.
What the UM/MSU game proved to me is that neither team is as good as they think they are. Harbaugh definitely has the wolverines ahead of schedule, but I also think that MSU is partially believing its own hype. UM fans have a tendency to be "gun jumpers". How many times have you heard the bragging from UM fans in September or October, only not to hear a peep from them by November. Dennard Robinson was supposed to win the Heisman after the ND game, right? Give it a little more time, UM fan. Harbaugh will get there.
How many times? Every single year.
Boy, KC and Chris, you guys need to take a look at the other stats before making those bold statements. I'll start with you, Chris.
1. First downs: You're right in the sense that first downs was lopsided. MSU clearly did a better job driving down the field.
2. Yardage: State did have more yardage, offensively 386-230. A much more efficient offense. Add in the special teams play and Michigan had 105 more special teams yardage (PR + KR). So, total yardage, MSU had about 50 yards more. So sure, slight advantage to MSU in yardage.
3. Time of Possession: 30:11 to 29:49…that's nothing. Even. If there's a 5 minute differential I'd give it to ya, not 22 seconds.
4. Penalties: Sure, 3 more for UofM is significant. That targeting one was rough, but still, it was called so it's included. A few other penalties were questionable, but not the difference in the game.
5. Turnovers: We will never speak of that play again, hahaha.
Alright KC, your turn?
I think the dumbest thing someone can say in a post-game analysis is "take that play away and ______" to try and make a point. Why would you take that play away? It happened! Take away that Michigan botched punt and ______. That blank means nothing, and your blank means nothing too. That 27 yard run was a FB dive…A FULLBACK DIVE! That's awesome and frankly, kind of embarrassing for MSU to give up.
The worst part of your argument is that MSU also had 33 rushing attempts…for 58 yards. Yeah, Michigan didn't run the ball well, but neither did MSU, they did worse.
The rest of your assessment was fair and relatively correct. I hate the injury or referee excuse in a loss, and you're right, cannot blame anyone but themselves, as a team, for that loss.
Woah! I'm not meaning to take anything away from Michigan; I just don't think any one team really outplayed the other. They're more evenly matched than people care to agree with. I'm just saying what truly kept Michigan in the game, was their kickers.
I also feel as if Michigan has found a secret weapon from their defense During this game, and that being Jabrill Peppers. The kid can certainly run and evade defenders, they need to work with him more and keep him in the backfield on offense.
Michigan had quite a few good passes get them up field for first downs, wish they would've thrown more. I'm a Michigan fan over State all day tho so don't take me the wrong way lol I just see both side 😛
KC
Perfectly stated!!
MSU drives were kept alive by poor officiating and not the lack of Michigan defense or anything that MSU did. Stats don't tell everything. Michigan looked better minus ten seconds. And Dumbasstonio had no class. Never had. He reminds me of Joe Biden. Just somebody you want to punch. And if you think the officiating blunders did not help MSU then you truly are. MSU homer.
Mus got VERY lucky. Michigan outplayed michigan state. Last year we were 5-7. This proves that Harbaugh will bring back michigan. Ohio state and michigan state better watch for these next few years. Michigan will contend for a national championship these next year's. Michigan outplayed the Sucky Spartys. GO BLUE!!!!!
Chris is right, the stats show all. Michigans special teams is what kept them in the game. Their run game was stopped nearly every play. Michigan had 33 run attempts; ONE run was for a 27 yard gain. and they had a whopping 62 yards rushing all together from the 33 attempts. Take away that 27 yard run; they averaged less than 2 yd per carry…. thats terrible. Michigans special team is what got them their field positioning, and the defense holding up decently, kept them in good range. If it wasnt for special teams, Michigan wouldn't have scored. There was one bad call; the targeting call; a bit drastic because Bolden was pushed into Connor Cook, but that was about it. You cant always blame the refs [even though that 3 TD attempt annoyed me] they lost, and it wasnt the refs fault.
KC
Actually your's is a homer evaluation. Look at the stats. They are easy to find. Google it! As I stated before, State had more yardage, more 1st downs, more time of possession, less penalties, and less turnovers. Please use facts in your assessment.
By the way, you never answered my question either.
Michigan led the entire game. You can't say State was the better team. It was a great game that Michigan should have won.
I would argue that UM's defense put them in a position to win, don't think many would argue that. UM's ST was head and shoulders above MSU's.
As far as your composure question, it's just a comparison of styles. Harbaugh gets fired up during the game, and I think a lot of people love it. It's definitely been preferable to Hoke's calm demeanor when a call goes against the maize and blue. Of course to other teams it seems like he's out of control.
As far as after the game, check out this article. Now I don't blame Dantonio getting caught up in the moment, but Harbaugh composed himself really well given the circumstances. He even went out of his way to find the MSU athletic director and shake his hand while Dantonio was celebrating / tending to the injured player. Additionally, Harbaugh was very composed and impressive in the post-game press conference.
So I don't know if "everyone knows that answer" Chris, seems to side with Harbaugh there. 🙂 Good game Sparty, best of luck to you for the rest of the year.
Homer evaluation. Michigan outplayed them. They were stopped and bad calls kept their fabricated drives going. Next thing you will say is MSU has better academics.
States offense and defense were better. Stats proved that. UM special teams had the game won for them, then blew it. Fact is, one team is 7-0 and the other is 5-2.
Answer this question, which head coach kept his composure both during and after the game? Everyone knows that answer. The victorious one.
I don't even wanna talk about that damn game… lol i was driving across Colorado and Nebraska, headed home; and my phone about went out the window in Nebraska after i heard the live stream say the kicker fumbled the ball….. -_-
IF Huron were to see the playoffs; I hate to say it, but it'd possibly be a one and done deal. You can't play one half of football at the end of the game, and expect to come out victorious. If they're not gonna play all 4 quarters like they do the last half, they'll never be where they need to be.
Congrats to SMCC on your HL Title.
Heads up GI. That was about as close as close can be.
KC
Chris, was Ithaca and JLC bumped to division five ?
I doubt that Huron gets in too, but Tecumseh got in last year in D 3 at 5-4. Their playoff point totals will likely be close to Tecumseh's from last year. They could really use wins by FR, Jefferson Airport and Avondale.
There are going to be probably 15 to 20 5 win teams in based on the number of teams that are 1 win away. Go Huron.
Best team won. Look at the stats from the game. State had more yards, more 1st downs, more time of possession, less, penalties and less turnovers and a coach that showed more composure the entire game. All of that equals Spartan victory.
Cmon Chris…if you watched that game you know deep down who played the better complete game. MSU didn't win the game…UofM lost it.
Verna's a bar were coaches go to hang out
The best team on the field did NOT win in the MICHIGAN/MSU game. Connor Cook proved that he is not infallible !
Friday night was beautiful, but it was freakin' cold! It was at JHS, anyway. To me, it was a perfect example of how SMCC is good for attendance. Believe me, I understand it was a cold night, but if the Falcon faithful hadn't attended the game Friday, the Bears had a VERY small home crowd. Neither side was full, but the away side was definitely more full than the home side. Barely any student section to speak of. JHS has great facilities, they had a lot going on, fundraisers, bake sale(delicious!), and fireworks! I realize that you're having a down year, but ya gotta get out there and support your team. The JHS Band was great too! Maybe people weren't sitting in the stands, but standing around the perimeter of the field, I don't know.
Just remember HL fans, you can't count on what you did last season in hopes of making the playoffs this season. I doubt very much that Huron gets in. Stranger things have happened though.
