Where Do I Stand

At the beginning of the season I make picks of where I think teams will end up in the regular season. It is never an easy task, but I usually do reasonably well. I have listed where I picked the teams, where they are now and where I see them finishing.

Milan was picked at 8-1. They currently stand at 5-1. I  still see them finishing at 8-1.

SMCC was picked at 7-2. They currently stand at 6-0. I still see them finishing at 7-2.

Huron was picked at 6-3. They currently stand at 2-4. I see them finishing 5-4.

Riverview was picked at 6-3. They currently stand at 4-2. I still see them finishing at 6-3.

Airport was picked at 5-4. They currently stand at  1-5. I see them finishing at 1-8.

Grosse Ile was picked at 5-4. They currently stand at 2-4. I see them finishing at 4-5.

Jefferson was picked at 2-7. They currently stand at 2-4. I see them finishing at 3-6.

Flat Rock was picked at 1-8. They currently stand at 2-4. I see them finishing at 3-6.

  1. View is a better football team then Rouge. I don't think Rouge could stop the run game of View or consistsntly put together long drives.

  2. Parker recruits like Carter. Put Carter at a huron league school that doesn't ship in talent and he's an avg coach.
Also Airport deserves to give Baas 2 more years so he has a shot with talent. Redmond wouldn't be winning at airport right now.

    1. You can't really put a certain time frame on it. As far as I know Baas hasn't had any troubles in his program aside from not winning football games. With that said in year 3, you've had time to get better and have gotten worse. I suppose it's up to the people in Carleton to decide what's acceptable. As a team that used to get beat up by Airport on a regular basis, I hope they stand pat, it is one more win a year.

  3. Thank you for the insight. I was just wondering your line if thinking. Like I said, I did not want to take anything away from a team scoring 50 points per game, just curious.

  4. They can't help who they play. They have beaten everyone. I'm sure they could argue that Riverview hasn't beaten anyone worth a darn. We will see what happens the next three weeks. Head coach Cory Parker has a nice football background. He played at St. Martin DePorres for the legend (Greg Carter) while being an all stater and Eastern Michigan. He is 50-19 as a head coach. Also, a ton of kids are coming from Detroit to play for him. They have a Police Athletic League pipeline directly to the school. Ask SMCC folk about Rouge and their program. They are no joke. This guy has a big heart. Check out this article about the guy. http://www.npr.org/sections/ed/2015/01/27/381670280/football-as-a-tool-in-the-hands-of-a-master-craftsman

  5. Chris, I assume that you are picking Riverview losing to Rouge. Not to take anything away from a team scoring 50 points per game, but who has Rouge played this year? Romuls has 2 wins, AA Huron has not won a game, Ecorse is not good, Hamtramk has a winning record but has beaten poor schools, And Harper Woods that same. This week will be the Panthers first test I think playing Pontiac ND. What are your thoughts there?

  6. A lot of your predictions were right on! As an airport fan I wish you were right about us. I don't know what they're going to do, but changes need to be made immediately.

  7. For SMCC to win, they can not give up the big play. By pass or run. Milan can score quick at any given time. You SMCC will try to grind it out. I think Milan needs to stop SMCC on offense to a one score first half. If Milan limits them to a one score half Milan wins. It's going to be a great game. You can not go off of other teams that these 2 have played. GI moved the ball on SMCC. So did the RV. It's so hard to compare teams to say what will or should happen. I do not think SMCC has speed like Milan does. Sure they have power, but mostly misdirection. Milan has to be discipline.

    1. Good. JOB Chris. I believe I speak for most that we appreciate you doing the blog again. Keep up the great work that you do for all of us that love to discuss great Huron league games. THANK YOU!!! JS

  8. I think SMCC will beat Milan the same way they beat Huron, and that's keeping the offense off the field as long as possible. Just my opinion, coming from a neutral viewer.

  9. I think you do a great job of predicting. I do my own and I'm never close. If your with in one game that's pretty good. I'm usually 2 or 3 games off.

  10. Nice picks, Chris. Your only "bad" prediction was Airport, but not many could have predicted that record at the beginning of the season.
