Grosse Ile (2-0) is coming off of a 42-6 thrashing of Jefferson while Huron (2-0) won at Airport 21-14. The Red Devils won last season 31-26 on the island and lead the all-time series 40-11.
Grosse Ile has a very potent offense led by senior QB Josh Sheppard. He has numerous offensive threats with him including Josh Moskall who is extremely hard to tackle. Defensively Aaron Blanzy and Owen Wiewiura lead the Red Devils.
Junior QB Brett McKay has led the Chiefs in rushing each of the first two weeks of the season. Sophomore Brent Wright is a weapon that the Chiefs will start using more as the season goes on. On defense the Chiefs rely on junior Mark Leidel and senior Nathan Ping.
This is a very good matchup and could be a high scoring affair or a defensive struggle. I will take a combination of the two. Prediction: Grosse Ile 20 Huron 17
The 2-0 Chiefs have much to prove with the narrow wins over a struggling Avondale squad and Airport. Huron's defense is the key to their success. Limit the Devils to 21 or less and they have a chance.
GI is 2-0 beating the teams on their schedule. Most predictions had them losing or winning by narrow margins. The fact is that they rolled both Parma and Jefferson, dominating all three phases of the game.
Referencing prior year performances to rate the current team is of little value in High School Football.
SMCC is the exception to history value in the Huron League.
5 year records for the 2-0 teams:
Milan 1-8,10-1,10-1,4-5,9-3
Huron 4-5,3-6,5-4,11-2,5-5
Grosse Ile 10-3,10-2,5-4,7-3,4-5
Barring upsets of Milan, SMCC or Airport, the outcome of the Huron GI game will provide the most information on the early state of the Huron League. A blowout either way establish a King of Hill going into week 4 and a close game will keep everything much as it was in week 3.
GI wins this one 35-20.
PTM
GI should win this one easily.
Watched the Jefferson game. GI is a solid team, but please believe me that they are nothing more than that. They've beat two below average teams. The next 3 weeks the have SMCC, Huron, and Milan. If they win 2 of those 3 then you can start talking. They were supposed to be decent last year to. I remember traveling to The island for the homecoming Milan game. Left at halftime when Milan was up 41-0. Beat SMCC and Milan and talk all you want to.

#9 dad would make a great politician.
Seems like the #9 dad has little to no love for my Red Devils, but I have a hunch that your tune may change after you see the scores tomorrow night.

Lol I have no beef with GI. I'm not sold on GI yet. Huron has a chip on their shoulder and I have always been partial to Huron do to Matt, I know he is gone now but that kid is and will always be an awesome kid. I tell you what, if GI beats Huron by the spread of 21 then I will pick GI every game from here on out except against Milan. I do wish GI the best of luck.
Man, does that dude write for Hallmark? If he don't he should. That was pretty good. I still think GI loses. Sure they might win, but giving who they played so far it's not a done deal. Good luck to both teams.
Isn't that just precious.
That was really nice. Kind of made me shed a little tear.
It needs soft background music.
The GI class of 2017 is a special geoup of young men. There are 12 seniors, each of them with a special set of skills and an equally special character. Many of them have walked on the field together for the past 10 years through heat, rain (remember Woodhaven?) and even ice. They've stuck together through the illness of a teammate, they've celebrated junior league championships together and I've never heard one of them blame another for a loss- one player's mistake becomes the mistake of them all. They fall together and they rise together. And when they rise, it's an amazing sight to behold. These young men have heart… miles and miles of it. In my 4 years watching GI play Friday night football, this team is by far the most tight-knit group yet. I promise you they will stick together until the last snap of the season, not just because they want to win, but because not one of them would want to let one of their teammates or coaches down. They will run as hard and as fast as they can, they line will become an impenetrable wall and they will fight together as one unit because that's how these men roll. Many of the proudest moments of my life have been spent while sitting in the stands, watching them play, and for that, Devils, I thank you.
I have just one last request, if I may : continue to stand as one, stay focused, kick some tail and bring us home a league title! FIRE UP BIG RED
Keep hearing about how incredible GI is. They played Western and Jefferson, not exactly powerhouses. I heard a lot of Flat Rock bravado after Summitt grade school, and the truth was brought out last week. Easy to sound tough, until you get punched in the mouth. Huron 35 GI 19
Huron had a last min. Win against a pretty bad ap team. Not exactly lighting the League up.
…..and still shaking my head.
@740 you shouldn't call kids our as unproductive on here. Show some class pal.
Some of these people that comment should think about what they say before they say it.hey 7:40, where is your blog? Maybe you should just say, "thanks Chris for the mentioning of some other players", is that too much to ask?
Still shaking my head on that one.
Hurons offense will be much more productive thus week. The defense is stout and will do their job. Huron wins 35-28
I've yet to see either play but by the sounds of it? It's gonna be quite the battle. I hope my alma mater can bring out the W.
I think this game will come down the the 4th quarter.
I'm gonna say 28-20 Huron.
KC
Should be a good game. Huron has already won two nail biters, I say they'll do it again. Huron 24 GI 21. EM
Grosse Ile is stout on defense and explosive on offense, look for the one two punch of Moskall and Vollmerhausen to dominate the ground, and watch Moores hop over Hurons quarterback. Shepard can run and throw, so watch out for that. Trombley and Wiewuera will stop any run up the middle, and the qb will have some issues running that qb tag with Vollmerhausen and Reeves at outside backers. Moskall is running around the defensive backfield, so watch that. I don't think this game will be as close as the rest of you think it will be. Strap it tight boys, time to give the Chiefs a visit.

GI-28
Huron-10
35-12
GI
I have seen the intensity of GI, Huron will need to be that intense. They came out flat against Airport. With some intensity and clicking on all cylinders Huron will beat everybody in the league. They have a very organized, methodical offense that's getting better each week. GI has a very limited run game and passing was only effective because #9 was guarded by a 5ft 8 corner. Huron won't make that mistake. GI has quick, short drives, that will allow Huron will have the ball even more this week.
Huron 35, GI 20
I agree Huron wins. Huron beat a much better team than GI did last week in my opinion but we will see.
Your "football math" should've won you both awards. Bravo.
Last week was Huron's first test. Don't under estimate them. Before you know it they'll be kicking *** up and down the field.
I've watched both Huron and GI and I don't see Huron having much productivity offensively against GI. On the other hand I can see GI exploiting the secondary of Huron in the passing game which will open up the run for the Devils. This game will not be very close. GI 32 Huron 12
Something bothers me about this Huron team. I can say that almost every year actually. They just seem to not be able to hit on all strides and win the big games. This is a big game.
GI 35 Huron 17
I will have to say Huron wins this one at home. 21-14
I like Huron scoring late in the 4th to win. They did it last week against a good defense. GI has 2 wins against winless teams. They will be tested Friday. Huron wins a nail biter.
