Here we go with the power rankings. What say you?
1) Grosse Ile 4-0, big tests coming up in the next two weeks.
2) Milan, 4-0, Big Reds will know how good they are over the next 3 weeks.
3) Huron 3-1, Chiefs played well enough to win.
4) SMCC 2-2, Falcons played well enough to win too.
5) Riverview 1-3, Pirates are getting better.
6) Jefferson 1-3, Bears awakening from hibernation?
7) Flat Rock 1-3, could possibly win remaining games.
8) Airport 1-3, don’t really know what to say other than they finished 1-8 last season.
The Mhsaa doesn't rank anything lol…. Those are playoffs points bud. Sorry. Look at mlive which has an AP poll for all the writers around the state that vote. Thats really the only real state rankings. The free press does a poll, but most people that know football don't take it too serious because it's done by one guy and it's just his opinion compared to multiple writers voting for Mlive
Milan tends to be on the edge of divisions. In all likelihood, it will depend on which schools get in the playoffs this year and where Milan's enrollment stacks up among playoff teams.
Those aren't state rankings. And yes Milan is currently D4.
I believe Milan is D4.
Milan, GI and Ida are all state ranked thru MHSAA website. As of Sept 20th
D3- Milan 8th- 78.000
D4- GI 3rd- 84.000
D5 Ida 5th- 68.000
Go to a practice and watch warm-ups. CC kicking situation is awful. Kick offs give their opponents the ball at the 35+ yard line. Punting is a shank, dropped snap, bad snap every other time, and cross your fingers on XP its 50/50. Their 2 point plays have scored 80%. Do the math! You so called football experts apparently don't watch much.
Agee 12:22 trap game is nonexistent.. Qb play needs to be better.. Can't get to the edge with Qb. Defense so far is outstanding.. Special teams needs attention.. This Friday will go a long way in determining if they make the playoffs..
Offensive line for CC needs improvement or it'll be a long season.
They rarely throw, maybe they should move those big ends inside.
Damn these coaches!!!! They want our children to lose!!!
I don't think they want to lose, they just might be more arrogant than smart.
Jefferson should be higher than this. They have lost to 3 4-0 state ranked teams.
They will be finishing very strong. They could even win out. I would not be surprised at that.
Go Bears!!
They could also lose the rest of their games.
Milan and Gross Isle are not state ranked in the AP poll. Yes GI is ranked 10 in the Free Press, but the guy who does it is a total goof ball and doesn't know anything about football. Hudsonville unity Christian was in the 10 spot for division for an AP poll. They just beat Zeeland West. Now that's an impressive win.
1 win and there in the hunt!!
They will win plenty of more games. Geez. They had a bad night and things were not clicking for them. U have to kick eps in high school football. I'm sure there is one kid on the team that has no problem making extra points. That's on the coaches
SMCC has not tried an extra point all year……..probably don't have a reliable kicker. They have converted 80% of their two point conversions. So with momentum going for two seems reasonable. End zone catch could have went either way great effort all around. Huron was physical the whole game and did not beat themselves, played field possession game. It appears SMCC has lost a step and not as fast as previous years. I thought #5 was faster and what happen to their offensive line? Too many penalties and mistakes, not a very disciplined CC team. Will see if they rebound, but may not win another game if they play like that.
They will win a few more games if not the rest of them. Huron executed the perfect defensive game plan and with the best kicker in the league pinned them deep all night.

Poorly covered punt and Huron's most allusive player with the ball equals long punt return down to the 5. Nothing to do with coaching there.
Huron won that game because they never gave up the long run. They did just enough.
On the 2 point conversion, I personally, with my zero football coaching wins, would have went with #24 off of the left side.
Agree with this list and comments. SMCC didn't get beat in the trenches and could have won. They tripled Huron's yardage and tripled their first downs. Huron's only score came from a poorly covered punt (SMCC may want to add a few more starters to their special teams). SMCC's two point conversion attempt left its fans saying WTF. Coaches need to take some responsibility instead of blaming the kids in the paper. I know, "players play and coaches coach" but poor decisions rest on the coach's shoulders.
