Jefferson @ Airport

Jefferson (0-2) is coming off of a 42-6 loss to Grosse Ile while Airport(1-1) lost at home to Huron 21-14. Airport won last years match up 7-0 and won nine straight in the series. The Jets leads the all-time series 30-25.

Jefferson has played two good opponents the first two weeks. The offense revolves around QB Brandon Sovey and RB Nick Humphrey. The defense is led by Cam Smith and Thomas Eads.

Airport let one slip away last week. Junior RB Mike Foor is a work horse on offense and QB Tanner Jeska has been opportunistic in the passing game. The defesne is led by LB’s Brent Mossburg and Justin Goretski.

This game is always a battle. A victory for Jefferson could turn the season around. An Airport victory would stir early thoughts of playoffs for the Jets. Prediction: Airport 21 Jefferson 7

  1. The coaches can stop the turn overs by giving the ball to someone that will do a better job protecting the ball. At some point they have to say that was one fumble too many and put someone else in.

  2. Hard for Airport to Beat Jefferson this yr..Few players wanted blood.Alot of crap talk between these teams & bears wanted it more.7 turn overs Airport. Now the crap talking parents can blame the Airport coaches like you blame the Bears coaches.Enjoy your Saturday Airport fans.Jefferson fans are loving this win.Been along time coming but well worth the wait.

  3. 7 turnovers. Unless it was the same 1 or 2 kids who made all the turnovers I wouldn't blame that on the coach. The coaches can't play the game.

  4. Well, another disappointment if you're an Airport Fan. Congrats to the Bears for breaking a 9 year losing streak. Final Bears 20, Airport 7. Coach is setting some records in his few years on the job! Breaks a 15 year or so winning streak over Huron in 2014, now this. Hang on guys it's gonna be a long season!

  5. You can't put the ball on the ground in Airport's offense or any for that matter. Protect the ball and carries will come for any skill player that is productive.

  6. Bondy will be a star someday. If you follow the blog or the podcast you would know that I have said that at least twice. Sophomores usually aren't on the level of seniors and some juniors. I believe that to be the case right now. As I said above, I would split the carries between Foor and Goretski and sprinkle in the pass with Jeska and carries for Bondy.

    1. For sure. I totally agree with you. Like I said before, if you actually sit back and really think about last Friday you have Foor with 29 carries and Jeska with 20 passing attempts. This is probably 90 percent of the play calls. So between Goretski and Bondy they only had a couple carries in that game. Now this was a game in which Airport led most of the way only to have it tied and lost in the 2nd half. It just makes more sense to run the ball with Foor, Goretski, Bondy, and even Jeska. As opposed to passing 20 times. It's weird to think they passed 20 times out of that offense in a game in which they were controlling. Thanks for posting my comments.

  7. It's OK for idiots to post comments like "all you guys have is 2 players Mossberg and Foor" but you won't post my comments about passing the ball 20 times from a Wing T offense when you're winning a football game!!!!!!!!

  8. Why aren't my comments posted? Never mentioned any players. Didn't talk bad about any players or team. Just giving my opinion like everyone else on here does.

  9. The Jets defense will be the difference this year resulting in a winning season.
Offensive penalties stopped the Jets at key points against Huron last week.
Penalties will not be a issue this week as the roll over Jefferson.
    Jets 34 – Bears 7

  10. I don't think there are 3 equally talented horses in the Jet backfield, unless your including Jeska. Goretski and Foor are both really good. I would ride those two all night and throw the ball when needed. Give the ball to Bondy when needed to keep teams honest. I believe Airport is a good team with a pretty solid defense that will be tough for most to beat in the Huron League.

    1. You're telling me the QB should be included in the same talent level as Foor and Goretski but Bondy shouldn't. Thats the dumbest comment I've heard all week. I'll shake my head on that one all day long.

  11. So I guess what your saying is AP doesn't need to put an offensive line out there, or have any other backs block and seal the ends because #15 and #4 are the team. Football is a team sport not an I sport. I guarantee you the other talented 9 players didn't block it wouldn't be pretty.

  12. 49-27 airport, high scoreing game Jefferson has no defense and has #2 & #7 that can make some big break away plays on offense

    1. If all we have is Mossberg and Foor then we should be 0-3 just like last year. That's all we had last year too. We have ALOT more than just Mossberg and Foor.

  13. Jefferson needs to start with blocking. Blocking coaches are terrible, that's what its all about. Downfield blocking too. BLOCK, BLOCK, BLOCK.

    Get the message Bears.

Just watched the JV game, blocking was terrible. LETS GO !!!!!

  14. Like I said before riding 1 horse when you have 3 equally talented horses in the backfield is ridiculous. If you ride one horse that cannot be stopped that's a different story, but when you ride one horse and its three and out when the option is spread the ball to all three equally talented horses and move down the field. When play calling is predictable I say that's falls on the coach calling the plays. I think AP should fake the defense out and go up the middle on first down.

    1. You're right-they should give the ball to each running back 20 times because that's how the Wing T is designed. Or any other offense with 3 running backs. They're all designed to get the ball equally…….

    2. I'll say this-I agree with you a little and say they shouldn't throw the ball 20 times. Probably run the other 2 backs those 20 times. Against Huron Foor had 29 carries and they passed 20 times-that's 49 plays right there. That's pretty much you're whole night of offense. The other 2 backs most certainly didn't carry the ball that much at all.

    3. The only time I've ever seen Airport throw the ball 20 times is when they were losing by 40 in a playoff game. Should never throw the ball 20 times when you're winning or tied out of that offense.

  15. Agree AP wins ! But only if we can get them to show up for a whole game? After last weeks 2nd half mental lapses that cost us the game!

  16. This is usually a pretty good battle. Jefferson is working very hard, trying to get a win and Airport is a bit stunned from last week. We will see how the Jets rebound.
Jets are pretty quiet on the 'ole blog this week.

Should be a great game, used to be a good rivalry, little lopsided in recent times.

Bears will pull it out and get it win

    Bears 27- Jets 22
