Be sure to check out the podcast. Milan @ Huron
Milan (4-0) defeated Jefferson last week in a thrilling game 35-31 while Huron (3-1) beat SMCC down in Monroe 7-6. The Big Reds won last year’s game 47-21 and lead the all-time series 20-2.
Milan continues to do what they do on offensive. They spread the field with great skill people, look at match ups then use their speed to exploit the other team. The defense has been good enough this season to help secure an undefeated season so far.
Huron played very well defensively last week against SMCC. The offense struggled a bit and was dealt a solid blow when junior QB Brett McKay went out with a knee injury. The Chief offense will be led this week by junior RB Reed Smith and senior RB Drew Leininger. The Chief defense will need to focus on tackling in space against the Milan speed.
This should be another good game and a Milan victory could set up the anticipated match up of undefeated teams next week when the Big Reds host Grosse Ile. Look for the Chiefs to pound the ball on the ground this week in hopes of keeping the Big Red high scoring offense off of the field. Check out the podcast for my prediction. Click Here
Huron has absolutely the worst visiting sideline in the league! Have senior citizens walking this far, trash everywhere, and bleachers are rickety. I would be embarrassed to work in the Huron athletic department.
SMCC, who is in a tough league for a D6 team and who also plays 2 state powers non league, is in real danger of not making the playoffs. Although being ranked high in D6.
I live out in the country. You know what we do to rabbits. LOL. Sure as hell not trying to catch them. I do get the idea. LOL.
As for tractor tire. It didn't roll to far in last game.
The rabbits were too fast and elusive tonight and the tractor tire had about 15 pancake blocks.
Jealousy doesnt look good on you…
Here are the rankings per Division as I see them.
DIV
1.River Rouge
2.Grand Rapids CC
3.Hundsonville Unity
4.Country Day
5.Marysville
6.Corunna
7.Benton Harbor
8.Hamilton
9.Grosse Ile
10.Whitehall
DVI
1. Ithaca
2. TCSF
3. Montague
4. Millington
5. Nauganee
6. Schoolcraft
7. Clare
8. SMCC
9. Lumen Christi
10. Maple City Glen Lake
Side Note. Ithaca and Montague cold end up in DV and SMCC could end up in DVII
Milan would fall somewhere around 15 for me in DIV and Huron in DIII about 25th.
Let's revisit this list at the end of the season. No trophies given after week 4!
The rabbit analogy is a perfect way to describe Milan. Well done!
I would agree that Milan has a volatile offense. I still think there defense has some issues. They have trouble stopping the run. I watched them closely at Jefferson and they were not able to stop the run. Was not at game, but also heard they could not stop Riverview's run game. They did win both games though. Rushing defense is their weak spot.
Should be a great game.

Best comment of the year about the rabbits and the tracker tire
This could be the wake up call for Milan. Huron will be Milan's first real test.
Milan 20 Huron 17.
PTM
Adrian most likely finishes 4-5
Saw some talk about playoff divisions on here. Let me break it down. As I see it 4 teams have a shot at the playoffs. Huron is solidly D3. Milan and GI are solidly D4. SMCC is directly on the bubble of D6-7. They are currently the bottom team in D6 if the playoffs started today.
Not a Milan fan here but the rabbit advice is comment of the year so far on the blog!
I 2nd that
All this talk about Adrian. I don't think Adrian is anything great, but they are prob a playoff team this year. AP is not and Avondale is not. How bout NB essentially being down for 3 Q's against Airport. Is AP that good? They were down late in the 4th to Avondale. Well Avondale is 0-4 and has lost to 3 bad teams in Troy, Ferndale, and Rochester. Just trying to keep things in perspective here.
Huron got a great win over SMCC. Thank you Huron from the rest of the league. You get a ton of credit. However, they gave up 49 pts the week before so to act like they are some world beater is a little far fetched. Keep things in perspective. No one in the Huron League is great. Some good teams and some average teams. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if SMCC beats GI. It's all about match ups this year. Should be an exciting 3 weeks.
You're absolutely right. Huron has to come out and play all 4 quarters of ball if they want to contend with the heavy hitters of the league. They squeaked by Avondale and Airport; and were bitten by the Devils when they gave up at half time. They know what they need to do in order to get that W. Hopefully the same defense that showed up last week against CC, shows up this week and keeps that scoreboard low in numbers.

Glad to hear your older boy is still at it. My older son played against him quite a few teams in Huron League baseball.
We will find out this weekend who is for real. Top 4 going at it. Fun to debate it though. Good Luck to all.
Thanks. And yea it is fun. But I promise you at the end of the day, the only think that matters is that you gave it your all, you leave it on the field, and both opponents walk away injury free. And thank the good Lord for allowingredients you to play such a wonderful game!
Good luck!
Ypsi Lincoln would not do squat in this league.

I've seen Milan play twice. Here are some tips for Huron on how to beat them:
1. Have each player take a rabbit on the field and then try to catch it.
2. Now take 2 rabbits on the field and try to catch them.
3. Last but not least; try to catch one of those rabbits, and then have someone hit you in the face with a tractor tire ( That's Mike Furtney ).
Good Luck Huron!
Milan is not that good. You will see over the next few games.
My son plays for FR, and has played Milan, CC, and GI. In my opinion, Milan was the best of the three. They can beat you in many different ways, and every play can go the distance, which puts a ton of pressure on a defense. Not to mention #9 is a very impressive defensive player, which is seldom talked about on here. CC does what they do well, but is lacking in athletes like in years past, which I think will hurt them against the better teams in the league. GI Vs. Milan will be a good game, but I still give the edge to Milan. From what I saw, GI can put together a long drive, and their running back is a tough runner who like #9 is a very solid defender, but giving up 50, 60, and 70 yard TD runs is demoralizing to a team, and while GI's coach may be brilliant X's and O's guy, if his team gets does this several times, I don't see him being calm and collected, whereas Milan's coach seems pretty unflappable. Just my two cents, since I'm not biased, and don't have a horse in the race. Good luck to all three teams, and may the best team win!
Adrian is NOT better than most of the teams in the Huron League. They would finish no higher than the 5th spot if not lower.
MLive picks Huron to win, 27-20. Sounds like they are treating the win over Jefferson like a loss.

Since the Denby game has already been cited twice in this thread, I figured I'd reference that game briefly and move on.
Here's the scoring summary from that game (from http://highschoolsports.mlive.com/game/score/3156902/):
1ST QUARTER
M – Barnes 9 run (Gray kick), :15
2ND QUARTER
M – Barnes 9 run
M – Lindeman 89 run
M – Lindeman 1 run
DD – Calhoun 10 pass from Goodwin
DD – Thompson 35 pass from Goodwin, 2:51
M – Lindeman 10, :37
3RD QUARTER
M – Lindeman 40
DD – Thompson 45 pass from Goodwin, 8:22
M – Lindeman 32 run
M – Gray 2 run, :13
4TH QUARTER
DD – Montgomery 32 pass from Goodwin (2 pt. good)
M – Barnes 46 run
DD – Washington 34 pass from Goodwin
M – Elam 66 pass from Barnes
DD – Goodwin 1 run
—
So Milan scores the first four touchdowns and 6 of the first 8 in the game. Even those of you who weren't at that game can imagine how the rest of a game like that goes. Denby had a great running back, but most of Denby's damage came through the return game and big pass plays. Is anyone saying that's how Milan's been scored on this season? Each season is different, but in each game it's still all about the matchups.
Of course, Milan's interior rush defense will get tested this week. This is still the Huron League. Will Huron be able to do other things effectively to keep Milan's defense honest? Milan has had to dig deep throughout the season to either come back or finish off games. Great win for Huron last week, but will they be able to fight through adversity and counterpunch enough times on Friday? We'll see.
By the way #9 dad, how is your other boy doing? Haven't heard much about him and he was a very good athlete also. Is he playing somewhere? Hope he is doing well.
Thanks for asking, he is good. Still playing baseball at EMU. He had a shoulder injury his senior year in high school and he is still battling that. He was red shirted last year. He is good to go now but his shoulder is about 90% He's a trooper though, he played summer ball with the Grand Lake Mariners and he did very well. Made the all star squad. Both boys are great young men. Momma raised em' up pretty darn good. And for the other post, all I'm saying is Adrian is better than Jeff, AP, FR and maybe SMCC this year. Who is Avondale? They are a weak team, AP is weak, GI is the only team of any high caliber and they lost to them big in the 4th. The SMCC win, well we don't know how big of a win that is yet. We have to see, if SMCC has a losing record this year then that win for the Chiefs is not as big as for league terms. Not trying to take anything away from the Chiefs either. That was a huge win for them. It should boost their moral to whip anyone on the field.
Lots of comments for this matchup, obviously many of us think this will be a great game. I think it will be a high scoring shootout. Let the kids decide it on the field.
GO CHIEFS !!
Wow there #9 dad. Adrian is 2-2 but their 2 wins have come against Ypsilanti Lincoln and Wayland. Neither are doing very good. So before you go and make them a title contender see who they played. Just to play on other peoples post. That would make Adrian 1-1 against ypsi lincoln (win vs ypsi lincoln and loss vs milan) and 1-1 vs everyone else.
Ypsilanti Lincoln would tear up this league if they were in it.
Thank you!
Just play the darn game and see who wins. This is HS Football not the national championship geez
You came on the blog to say that 5:39?
Any word on Huron's QB
GI exposed Huron's lack of speed. If Huron can't hang with GI's speed, they have no shot against Milan. When we played Milan, I was amazed at their speed. You think you have them boxed in and BAM they're gone for 80 yards. So frustrating as a parent of the opposition to see that happening to your son. Only being fair and giving credit where it's due. I personally can't wait for Milan's dynamic duo to graduate, tired of their dominance. Prediction: Milan 55 Huron 26
All this chit chat about Milans offense being this and that; and here they were in a crap shoot to keep up with Jefferson…
Milan has played one team even worth a damn, but even then that team hasn't lived up to the expectations everyone thought they would (Riverview).
Huron has already played off against two top teams in the league, loss to one. Win to another. If their defense can hold CCs run game to a whopping 6 points. Imagine what they can do to your run game? I've yet to see Huron play but I'll be there this Friday to watch this one unfold. I have faith in my alma mater to come out swinging. If they do go down? You can bet it won't be easy. Strap it up boys and leave it all on the field.
Huron 28
Milan 21
KC
Look at the stats for the CC an Huron game. CC beat them in every part of the game but the score board. CC does not have the weapons like Milan. And you say Milan has not played anyone worth a damn? Adrian is 2-2, they are better than most of our league teams. And Milans defense will do what ever they need to do to win. The offense will do the rest. Averging 35 a game. For Huron to even have a shot at winning this game they best do what you guys said and put up 52 points cause that still might not be enough.
SMCC has different weapons than Milan. You have a sword, SMCC has a canon and will blow Milan up. Good luck Huron.
The only stat that matters is the scoreboard.
It don't matter if you have 500 yards of passing or rushing. Those stats don't mean nothing if you don't capitalize with a touchdown on the drive.
Might I also add; CC doesn't need the weapons. They have the T that they've ran over the league with time and time again. They execute their plays so well with what they're given that they don't need star studded athletes to do the work. They just need to execute their plays right and they move the ball.
Adrian hasn't had a winning season since 2011. You're giving them way too much credit to help your argument. If they were in our league they may beat Jefferson, FR, Airport and View. But it'd be a rough game versing everyone else.
Also, 52 is a bit of an over exaggeration. Milan will finally meet a team in the league with a defense. We'll see how it goes does on the field tho. 👍
KC
Huron's defense is on the spot. I don't think they can contain Milan's spread for four quaters. Milan takes it 20-14 in a hard hitting Huron league battle.
Huron got a great win against SMCC. But that great defense gave up 49 points to gi and barely beat two below average teams in Avondale and airport. Great win but Huron is just an above average football team nothing more. If the quarterback is really out, could be a long season
GI Fan
Man, you guys still on those refs. You won.
Sorry Dad, Mr. phone booth, and 12:18, I see it just like the Denby game.
Nothing personal guys, just trying to make sure everybodies head fits through the door. Look what happened to Airport.
I was on your sideline, I know what went on guys. Coach Hoskins is a great coach, but I am sure he would absolutely admit his defense is suspect and that he and his assistants constantly yelled at the Milan players about being out of place on defense. I am sure he worked hard on that this week. We will see what happens.
I do predict a high scoring game.
52-35 Huron.
How were you on the sideline, if you're a Milan hater. You must of been the sidejudge. No wonder there were so many bad calls against Milan.
Milan finishes the season 5-4. Plays Rouge in playoffs and gets destroyed by 50. Bold maybe, but I bet I'm close if not right on.
Huron won't make the play offs.
LOL. As much as I look forward to a Great game Friday night… I REALLY don't look forward to going to Huron. The visitor stands look more fit for a Middle school play lot then a credible High School football program. Although I realize they have no regard for the visitors to their substandard little field and I'm sure no priority given to the "visitor" side of the field…how about from now on we ALL just sit in the HOME STANDS! Decked out in all our Milan gear..Cheering AS LOUD AS POSSIBLE! Milan fans usually travel well… I'll bet we could take over the ENTIRE RIGHT SIDE OF THE STANDS! 🙂
Huron played CC in that so called "phone booth" and got a little lucky with CC not forcing OT. Milan is not going to play within that 5 yard box. They are going to spread you out and make you play in space. Huron is not fast enough to keep up with them. If they try to key on #6 and #9, Milan will hit you with quick slants. So many weapons coming at you with lightning speed. Big Mike Furney will seek and destroy. Having said all of that; I hope for a safe and healthy game for both teams.
This is the same Huron team that barley beat Airport right? Without their best player at QB right? Should be a good game, but I think that Milan matches up pretty well with Huron and won't see the T-Formation that they have really struggled to stop.
Milan Fan
I think your rite on with this one! Milan gonna roll Huron for sure! Airport beat themselves and so did CC. QB health is suspect. Milan 45 Huron 14
During the DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP last year Milan outscored Detroit Denby 67-44. That's what they do, they just outscored you no matter what. Sometimes their D steps up and it's a blowout, and sometimes they play well and score just enough. Milan's main 2 threats are back from last year and they're doing the same thing. THEY JUST OUTSCORE YOU!! Did I mention they are DISTRICT CHAMPS? Folks get on here every week and bloviate about beating Milan, only to post excuses as to why they lost after the game. You keep talking, we'll keep bringing home the trophies.
Who is undeafeted? Oh yeah thats right not your team!! Huron took avantage of SMCCs mistakes and that is the only reason they walked away with a win. I think this game with be a very close game because either team can win. There was NO penalty on that first drive in the Jefferson game.
Careful now. That's a mighty tall horse that you could quite possibly get knocked off of.
Huron didn't capitalize on SMCCs mistakes. To my knowledge in that game, the only mistake SMCC had is not having a kicker for extra points. Aside from that. They played some smash mouth, head to head, pad to pad, play for play football that came down to final minutes of the game. So "walked" away with a win, is an understatement of what truly happened.
KC
Projecting 87 total points? Really? I had better get to my spot on the visitor's mound early on Friday.
Still whining about the refs I see. I saw film too, most all were legit. Especially the opening drive offensive face mask penalty, see that plain as day on film.
Anyhow, I see disagreements all over this thing. Milan's defense is rough. Many people out of place all the time. Coach calls a defense and the kids are not in the right areas. Gave up many yards because of miscommunication. If they have ironed that out, they will be much better on D. They have given up 50 some points in the last 2 games. SMCC has given that up in 4 games. Chiefs will bust up this defense some more this week.
Chiefs 52 Milan 35
Huron is way too slow to score 52 in a game. Not impressed at all when we played them. Milan 42 Huron 16
The facemask was legit. Also, there were 3 holding calls. But, there was 2 helmet to helmet calls. The boys helmets touched slowing down after the play was dead. There was a couple block in the backs. The defender dove after the ball carrier and our blocker happened to have their hand on them. You can have your opinion of this game, but facts are facts!
No way. Talk is cheap. And your prediction is ridiculous.
You tell em
-UncleOf38
Huron is a tough team, from what I have seen on this blog I do not think Milan will have what it takes. This is Milan's first true trial if you ask me.
Huron 35

After last week's second half play Milan will bounce back. Sure, we have what you guys call a home run threat, but we have an offense that can control the ball, sustain drives and score. Everyone says Milans defense is bad, I disagree. Although it's not the steel curtain, it has done enough to win. So far in every game Milan has been down, except Jefferson, and came back to win. They find ways.
The film I watch on Huron was against GI. That was a game till the end of the 3rd then Huron made some mistakes. They should have won that game in my opinion. I think Milan has the most talent over all in the league. GI is right there with them. This should be a really good game to watch. Match ups in my opinion do not favor one or the other. It's going to come down to the 4th quarter. And if Milans defense can force a few punts, cause a turn over or 2, Milan should win.
Good luck to Huron.
Because the D does enough so that Milan can win does not mean the D is good. Milans D is definitely suspect.
Milan definitely has more talent than Huron. Penalties will determine if Huron gets the W. If we get the same officials as the Jefferson game, Milan's in trouble. I watched the film of the Jefferson game, out of the 10 penalties called against Milan, only 4 were legit. I see a big game for Milan's DB's. Huron's QB throws a rainbow ball, Milan's fast DB's should have an opportunity for picks. Jefferson was good at slowing down the game with long sustained drives, keeping Milan's offense off the field, and Milan still put up 35. I don't see Huron being able to sustain drives. Prediction Milan 51 Huron 25
Milan does NOT have more talent than Huron. It's fairly close in that regard if you count all the players on the field. Which you should. This should be close but I wouldn't be surprised if Huron wins by 10 or more.
This will be a great game. Have seen both play, tough call. Milan's defense will not be able to stop Huron's rush, and it is very difficult for anybody to slow Milan down. Jefferson almost most got them and I think Huron's D is a little bit better than Jefferson's. Milan has a bunch of skinny, fast guys, which can fly on offense, but don't do much to stop anything on defense.
Huron 44- Milan 40 in a shootout.
People can talk about the Home run ball because they have broke some big plays, but through the first 4 games, most of their scoring drives have consisted of long sustained drives if you have watched the games. They will need to take care of the football and grind out the difficult yards to come out on top. Huron could struggle offensively if the QB is really out. Kid looks like a very good player.
Should be a great game.
Milan Fan
I think Huron pulls off the upset. I don't know though since right now I'm at a 6 out of 10.
-Lahey
GO CHIEF'S-Its yours to take.
Huron looks really slow. They will not be able to keep up with Milan's fast pace offense. It will be close at the half and then Milan will wear them down. Milan 38 Huron 20
Milan is just not that good in my opinion. The homerun ball has masked their weaknesses. That won't happen this week.
Don't you just get the feeling the rest of the league is sick of hearing about Milan's success? Don't listen, just keep kicking A$$. -Milan Fan
I think Huron can score on them. I think they have a kicking game advantage. McKay could be a key. Injured or not. Huron tackled much better last week. If they stop the home run ball, I really do think they win. Might be a tad bit lower scoring.
Look at how many points GI put on them. Do you think their offense is more explosive than Milan's? Last week at Jeff that was a melt down in the 2nd half. That won't happen again. They over looked the bears in the 2nd half. I think Milan will go in with a big chip on their shoulder with something to prove. Guess we will see Friday night.
It would be nice to hear your reason for an upset. I think Milan will have their hands full but will win. Of coarse I would say that. Lol.
