It's all evolution in the NFL. DBs were allowed to get more physical so WRs got bigger. Then DBs got bigger which resulted in the origination of the small, quick slot receiver (or perfect world – Antonio Bryant). Coaches still crave big fast DBs though.
Well, when Jefferson when still able to muster up some motivation, they actually stopped 4 straight GI runs deep in their own end. GI got down to the 1 1/2 yard line and did not score. The subs were not in at this point. Vollmerhausen was stopped on 2 of them. So when the field tightened up and GI was forced to run they were not successful too often.
Passing was impressive, but only because Jefferson left their shortest corner out there against a 6ft 3 kid. That's where the 3 TD's came from. Jefferson has a 6 ft 5 receiver, perhaps they should put him at corner.
A lot of coaches use short corners to cover tall receivers. I just don't understand it because it doesn't work. If a short kid is a baller, move him to Will and blitz him. Take a taller LB and move him to corner to cover the taller receiver. Open to opposing points of view to help me understand.
A couple of thoughts about some of the comments here. First Grosse Ile was just the better team. John Bodner is a very good coach his team is very physical and very athletic. Once again the better team won. As for juniors playing JV for Huron. They didn't have that many sophomores come out for JV this year for whatever reason. They're not very big on playing freshman on JV. They decided to drop down a handful of juniors who wouldn't get any playing time on the varsity level.
Juniors that aren't that good to play on Varsity should either stand on the sidelines and cheer on there team or work harder to try to earn playing time there senior year. But instead they get moved down to play JV that will certainly take playing time from Sophmores. Makes no sense when it comes to building a program.
No excuses. You are right. I wasn't happy with the refs, could have been a few more calls, but it would have had a minimal outcome on the end result.
The no huddle really did Jefferson in. They were not ready for that and never recovered. GI had some serious intensity, but other than the pass plays, not all that impressive. It is what it is.
We will see what comes about for the rest of the season.
When you have kids who need development and just will not get any playing time on a varsity with a good size roster, juniors are sometimes brought down to play JV.
11:29 is correct. Pennfield has had a rough last couple of years but before that made the playoffs for 15 straight seasons and 20 of the last 23. (http://michigan-football.com/f/pennfiel.htm)
Must have improvement at Jefferson or its time. Last years JV was respectable. 4-5. Combined with some of the studs we have this year, we should be respectable.
We were far from respectable last night. Looking for some light here. If not, its time. Shouldn't be a battle between parents, board, or anyone else. Coaches should just know that if they aren't cutting it, its time to step down. Defense awful for years, offense has its moments, special teams rarely good.
It's early in season yet, lets see some hard work and a solid effort to improve.
Huron had 7 juniors on the JV team yesterday. 3 or 4 of them were over 200 pounds. Didn't matter much obviously-Airport dominated them but why are Juniors playing JV football?
This game finished 42-6, and it wasn't even that close from the kickoff. Chris, you were there and watching the same game I did. Jefferson was obviously overrated coming in and extremely outmatched in the end, the kids played there a$$ off but we were absolutely no match for GI in all 3 aspects of tonight's game. A coaching chance needs of to be considered at this point , for lack of creativity alone.
The referees had nothing to do with the game. Jefferson just doesn't have a good team. Sorry. G I was not even that good and crush them. Jefferson was all repaired and made no defense of adjustments
Yes I do….. 48 points lol….. Pennfield has been down maybe they are good. Not sure. But I know that GI hit a few long plays and other then that looked extremely average. No offense or anything. They are just an average football team. They struggled to run the football and the QB is very average. They will struggle to move the ball against good teams is all I'm saying. Jefferson was really bad. Parma will go 3-6
How can you sit here and say GI is average. 83 points in two games and only let up 4 TD's on defense so far. They've beaten two teams that they lost to last year. 2-0 heading in to Huron. Only two games in to the year, you can't expect a playoff ready team yet. All that matters is they're winning. You must not know what a good football team looks like when you see one.
Sorry I think most people who saw the game last night will tell you that GI is an above average football team. They could not run the ball on Jefferson. And they won't be able to throw up jump balls against the good teams in this league. Let's see how they fair against SMCC, Milan, New Boston, and Airport
Jeff/GI game was awful, I agree. EXTREMELY chippy. Lots of no calls. So much interference on passes, do they call offensive pass interference in HS football?
Anyhow, main difference in game was GI's no huddle offense. Obviously Jefferson did not scout them last week. Refs told us at half time, GI did this last week. Said they do GI games all the time. Thought that was a conflict, but not sure. GI did the no huddle until a running clock, then stopped. All players have arm sleeves and coach yells in play. It worked, they won.
Refs on first name basis with Bodner, he ordered them around. Jefferson would not have won anyhow, but it was rough to see how GI controlled the refs. 1 penalty on GI all night.
If this keeps up, this will be the last season for current Jefferson coaching staff. There is no way they will return after another subpar season. They have 2 studs in Sovey and Humphrey and they had absolutely no help tonite. Blocking coaches should be fired immediately.
Hopefully Bears turn it around, but tonight was not a good sign.
Was at the game and Jefferson is absolutely awful. Not sure what Ida was doing. Number 7 is a good player, but not much around him. GI looked ok. Jefferson couldn't cover a pop warner team. They won't be able to run the ball against the better teams in this league. That really good Parma team got 48 points out up on them vs BC Pennfield.
yes 6'1" big.. but rarely do you find a corner that stands 6'4" or taller.
NFL teams typically don't have tall defensive backs
It's all evolution in the NFL. DBs were allowed to get more physical so WRs got bigger. Then DBs got bigger which resulted in the origination of the small, quick slot receiver (or perfect world – Antonio Bryant). Coaches still crave big fast DBs though.
Many teams don't have that luxury. Its hard to find athletic 6'3" kids who fit the mold to play DB. THey don't grow on trees.
4:34 you're right but Huron league teams run it 80% of the time so they want their biggest players in the box to stop the run first

That's my thoughts 11:46.

Sorry but you could put a 6' 7" kid out there to cover and Moores will still catch the ball any day of the week, and three times on Friday.

Didn't realize GI did the NO huddle against Jefferson last year. Didn't make that game, I think it was during the day after a postponed game.
That sucks even worse even if they knew they were doing it again. LOL
Grosse Ile has done the no huddle for years
Juniors that aren't that good to play on Varsity should either stand on the sidelines and cheer on there team or work harder to try to earn playing time there senior year. But instead they get moved down to play JV that will certainly take playing time from Sophmores. Makes no sense when it comes to building a program.
Any school can move down juniors to JV if they feel the need. The Varsity team has too many players and didn't want to cut them.
Obviously, if they were stud juniors, they would not have been moved to JV, so as far as domination, I wouldn't get too excited.
No excuses. You are right. I wasn't happy with the refs, could have been a few more calls, but it would have had a minimal outcome on the end result.

So you weren't impressed with the run game at all? Hmm

That's a solid program.

Maybe they are first year or first time players.
This game finished 42-6, and it wasn't even that close from the kickoff.

Hell of a game between SMCC and Riverview JV. Tough football all around.

Agreed

You know that BC pennfield isn't a bad team right??
Huron freshmen 20, Crestwood 6

They won't turn it around until they (you) stop making excuses.
They did the same wrist band-no huddle thing last year no different
You sir, sound very salty!
We had no penalties because we are discipline and play clean

Milan beat flat rock jv 21-7 with a late TD to seal the game.
