Airport @ Milan

Airport (1-6)  lost to Grosse Ile 33-7 while Milan (6-1) lost at SMCC 30-20. Milan won last years game 38-30 and leads the all-time series 33-15-1.

Airport entered this game with an identical record last year and gave the 5-2 Big Reds a run for their money. The Jets have struggled both offensively and defensively this season and appear to be a better team at home.

Milan slipped up last week and most likely need a win to ensure at least a tie for the league crown.  The Big Reds will be happy to get back to their home field and play in front of their usual large home crowd.

Not sure what to make of this game other than Milan is the better team. Don’t anticipate a repeat of last years close game in Carleton. This game could get ugly. Pick: Milan 35 Airport 21

Gary’s Pick: Milan 42 Airport 21

  1. I find it funny that the smcc keyboard cowboys had a whole week to talk trash on the previous threads but chose to run over to this one as well… well done, not I'm not bitter, yes Milan lost …. so let's move on..

  2. The following are ways to beat a superior opponent:

    1. Have 4 guys act like the are running with the ball in different directions, also known as "the razzle dazzle".

    2. Have your little fellas cut the legs of the bigger, more athletic guys. This will cause the more athletic guys to just fall down.

    3. If at all possible, speak with the guy at your school who's in charge of the lights, tell him to break a few, or replace the stronger lights with really really dim lights.

    4. Talk to the guy in charge of cutting the grass, tell him to take a few weeks off, the grass is fine.

If you follow these instructions, you should win a bunch of games. You're welcome!!

  3. @ 7:00 AM
    "Stop" – maybe not.
Slow down and disrupt – yes. Our young men are athletic enough to do that – period. They just need to be directed to do so.
I so wish Baas played a bigger role on the defensive side of the ball.

    1. Slow down and disrupt is rite! Containment Containment Containment! the ends need to keep there Containment which pushes the carrier up the middle! #6&#9 are not going want to keep going against our LBs ! They like to go outside and get hit by smaller DBs ! So if we can do that and score at least 28 points we can win. I'll be happy to see our boys play a good game and keep it close! That to me would be a step in the rite direction! GO Jets!!!

  4. Sadly Milan could put up 500+ yards on AP's defense.
AP opponents racked up 353 (RV), 248 (FR), 411 (SMCC), and 403 (GI) yards respectively in the previous four games.
Let's hope AP has abandoned the ineffective DT/DTE stunt they have been running as it has resulted in gaping holes for the opponents offense to gain substantial yardage.
One thing is for sure. Milan's offensive game plan hasn't changed over night so shame on AP if they haven't done their homework to come with a game plan to at least slow down #6 and #9. If not, as you posted Chris, this game could get ugly.

    1. I guess anything is possible. I don't know who #6 is being recruited by, but they make great team mates. They have played together since 7th grade.

  5. That's a testament to Milan's work ethic. Other teams know where the ball is going and Milan just executes and outworks you to make the play work. SMCC matched Milan's effort in their win.

    1. Actually your wrong. Milan didn't get it done. Milan lost. Play that game 10 times and MIlan will win 7 of them. It's not what SMCC did, it's what Milan didn't do.

    2. In your four years of watching your son in the SMCC vs Milan game, Milan has won once. Milan does not win 7 of 10 this year. SMCC manhandled Milan. You couldn't stop SMCC #5, #7 and #24. You had no pressure on the QB and SMCC passed as needed. SMCC #60 kept you nose from being an impact player. Milan #6 and #9 were mostly shut down as was the pass game.

    3. Here's why Milan has so much trouble with SMCC. Milan is not going to change their whole Offensive or Defensive scheme for a team that runs a gimmick offense. SMCC always gets bumped to another division in the playoffs due to their low enrollment numbers, so Milan plays SMCC once every year, Milan plays that game and gets ready for the playoffs, where the better teams play a more traditional offense. SMCC would not fair as well in the playoff tougher divisions. So go on SMCC believing you're a powerhouse with that stupid T, just smoke and mirrors!!

    4. You can spin it anyway you want. The fact is you guys won and we lost. So that gives you the right to brag and say what ever you want. I'm good with that. I'm not going to say we had an off game, or blame the refs, I will say that our boys just didn't didn't get it done. They made some mistakes and it cost them. So take your 4 and 3 record, and go celebrate beating a 6 and 1 team. That's all you did, you won by 10. You didn't blow them out, you didn't get a running clock, you just won a football game. But hey, it's your story and you can tell it anyway you want. Hopefully you make the play offs.

  6. I was gonna say something similar. All teams run power in one flavor or another. They also run counter or tweak their power in another way in case it's getting overplayed by the defense. If a team can't stop power, they are in trouble.

  7. Milan doesn't run zone read, Wake up. Everyone runs power and everyone has an answer to stop it. Milan runs power to B,C,and D gap. They adjust based on how you play them. The Barnes keep is not a read it's called in. Read guards and 90% of the time the FB takes you to the play, unless they run GT counter.

    You're Welcome

    -The old ball coach
    – smcc alumni

  8. Big momentum game for Milan. They need to erase that taste from last week and get the ball rolling in to the playoffs.
