  1. 1. Huron had dressed everyone all year. Get over yourself.
    2. The horse is tradition at Huron and is a shout out to the Equestrian team I suppose.
    3. The halftime was too long. So what?
    4. Ever dawn on you that the band had no where else to go? As they were standing there prior to Riverview beginning their stretching, maybe the stretching could have taken place sonewhere else on the field? Do you really think there was coordination between the band and football team for intimidation purposes?

Listen to yourself people. You sound soooo crazy!

Good luck pirates. My man Don Lessner is looking down on you and smiling wide!

  2. Just putting in my 2 cents did Huron try to intimidate Riverview by dressing their jv team with varsity? Yes other wise why do it. As far as the horse and spear thing not sure on that one lol I think they do the horse thing every home game? Was half time 35 minutes and longer than normal yes but don't know who that would favor as both teams was in the same boat. The band thing was tacky marching into the players while stretching it is what it is. It was home coming for Huron so things tend to take longer. Go Bucs!

  3. Stupidest post of the year 4:33 PM. Huron trying to get in Riverview's head? Throwing spears at the Riverview sideline (which was actually midfield or somewhere near where the horse took the fine young lady riding it)? Unbelievable how ridiculous you sound. Your own video man posted on this blog how well Huron handled the homecoming EVENT. Unfortunately for us die-hard football fans, the excessive celebration (admittedly much longer than the allowed for halftime break) was a bit much but none of it had anything to do with gamesmanship. Thank god Riverview ground the time away during the game so the EVENT didn't last longer than normal 🙂 As a former Pirate, please don't embarrass yourself or my school anymore than you already have.

    – Huron fan

  4. I have to say Huron tried to hard get into Riverviews head Friday night with having what seemed like 70 players dressed to the 2 horses with 2 people dressed in Indian outfits throwing war Spears at the Riverview sideline to the 35 minute half time and then the band marching into the Riverview players as they stretched out after half-time…none of that worked !! They should have spent more time working on plays and how to stop the Riverview offense..those were punk moves that just got Riverview more fired up..

  5. I think these Huron fans and parents were the same ridiculing Airport Fans and parents last year. And there not 1-8.

  6. All i can say is if you are at every huron game and know anything about football or the players and dont see whats going on then your blind. Most huron fans will know what im talking about

  7. Hey 1:26 think before you type. I'm with ya brother. #1 is small in stature but really brings it. Go CHIEFS. !!!!

  8. @1:26 – the meaning of invaluable is "can't do without". The original poster was making the same point you reiterated.

Yet folks get all wound up on here.

  9. 2:12 are you serious? Are expectations are to at least compete! Is that to high? I don’t think so! Parents wanting special treatment for kids? That’s a freaking joke! If you actually new what you were watching you would know the other team know every play we run and we’re it’s going! Hard to block if they know we’re the ball is going EVERY play! Defense!!! Awe for heaven sakes is absolutely miserable! Absolute wrong guys out there!

  10. Airports problem has always been that the coaches fold to parent pressure and play the athletes that have the “squeakiest” parents. Been that way since back in the late 80’s until now. You could make an argument about the Eric Redmond years, but that would be a prove me wrong thing.

  11. Flat Rock plays Ann Arbor Huron the last week. Huron has not won a game in the last 2 seasons plus this year. I think they are pretty safe in week 9.

  12. I hate saying this but there are a lot of problems at Airport:

    Too high of expectations?
Parents trying to be too involved and expecting favors for playing time for there kids?
Coaches giving into parents being involved and allowing kids to play that shouldn't?
From what I see nobody knows how to block properly
Nobody knows how to take on a block properly
    Do we have a defense??
What kind of defense do we have??
Do we stunt our lineman and linebackers??
Do our linebackers read the guards??
Why aren't our "best 11" on the field?
High school football is ALL about blocking-did I mention we can't block??

Enjoy whatever it is that we have now because it doesn't get any better next year or the year after.

  13. For the person above to say McKay is invaluable in the support is compete crap, after week 6 he was 2nd in Monroe county in tackles and after the game last night I'm sure he's close if not leading the county. He's a great defensive player and all around great football player

  14. Base defense what is our AP defense bend n don't break isn't working anymore 500 plus vs all T and they came from the T what gives?

  15. Thrilled for the kids and coaches at flat rock. Great to see and how exciting when they make the playoffs. Very cool as they’ve taken a beating for a lot of years in this league.

    AP fan

  16. Huron is 5-2 and their season is a bust? Come on people give me a break. Enough with the "Ohio kids" vs everyone else, all it does it separate the kids. Those kids are loved by their team and they love their team right back. We lost two games because the other team just wanted it more. Instead of criticizing and dividing the team (which only brings negativity) maybe we should be encouraging (this can only bring out positive vibes). No team plays every game perfectly, flush it and get ready to take on a good FR team.

  17. You can't just stay in your base defense against the T. You will get exposed. Just a question does anyone read the guards anymore?

  18. Great game in HURON yesterday everybody is hammering Hurons offense although the numbers didn’t show it their QB had a hell of an arm and #1 seemed to be a factor consistently on both sides of the ball. The Riverview boys were laser focused and prepared themselves without distraction. They need to keep the humility and intensity they’ve had since FR and keep the physicality they’ve shown all year. Great job boys you stepped up last night.

  19. 2 observations from the Riverview/Huron game last night:

    1. I was impressed with the environment that Huron created for that game. It was a well organized chaos as it felt like all of New Boston and Riverview were there to see the game but it wasn't just the logistics. From the beads being handed out to the pregame rituals, it was well handled.

    2. As a videograper for Riverview I see a lot that isn't always apparent to the naked eye. Last night as I was going over film I was impressed with the civility. Late in the game when there was still a chance for Huron to make it close the players kept their cool and were even still helping each other up. The last couple weeks that hasn't always been the case. That's no knock against those teams as it seems the more natural reaction to get a little chippy when you're frustrated. If I'm honest, that was more of how I behaved as an athlete.

Cheers to you, Huron for the what the athletic department has shown and good luck against FR next week!

Cheers to the Bucs! Time to go finish strong, win the league outright, and return the favor to GI for last year and do it all at HOCO!

  20. You guys are ridiculous. You'll ride for AP when they are winning but once they lose you wanna just beat them down. -river view

  21. If you want the blueprint to sucess, look at what our kids have done off the field for the last 4 years. They have bought into the program and hit weights hard. Lots of film study and no hugh egos. They walk onto the field as 1 well oiled machine and treat eachother like family. Iam so proud to have been able to watch this transformation. Proud of our Bucs!#weloveourbucsfamily #63proudparents

  22. At least the games we lost we're competitive til mid 4th we are being blown out by mediocre teams by halftime darn lucky to be 3-4

  23. Crying nepotism or focusing on the "Ohio kids" is nothing but sour grapes from little Johnnys Dad whose dream had crumbled. The fact is, those kids are good ball players, along with others on the team, who did not even get a chance to be game changers last night due to a lack of offensive proficiency which had a lot to do with playing a good defense but also ALOT of issues with play calling.
The foremost webpage regarding the Wing T offense described its important elements as:

The Wing T is designed for consistency, strength, and is ball control oriented.
The formations are characterized by a wingback so there is the threat of at least three deep receivers.
The quarterback threatens the flank either with action or away from it on every play providing either an additional threat to the attack flank or misdirection threatening the flank away from flow.
All three backs are close enough to the formation so that they may be used as blockers, ball-carriers or for deception.
The offense is designed in complete backfield series, each of which presents multiple threats to the defense on each play.
It has a balance of passing which is predominantly play action in nature.
The spread of receivers is accomplished by ends and is made to accommodate the running game and not as a mechanism to enhance the passing game.

I'm not sure this is what we are seeing with the Chiefs. Too much predictability, not much attacking of flanks by the QB who hasnt been presented as a threat to run, too much "Hail Mary" style passing which usually succeeds a lost yardage play (panicking), and generally a lack of creativity. To be fair, it's all new to these kids but they haven't gotten better at it for sure which implicates the coaching.

  24. Let me guess, Huron and Airport didn't do anything different with there defensive lines to prepare for these wing offenses. See where that got them. Got to change it up, prepare. Just saying folks.

    Retired Coach.

  25. I had breakfast at Farmers early this morning, but the rest of the breakfast club is working days. We will probably be there next Saturday morning.

  26. Hats off Bears! Way to work hard until the end! Thanks, Flatrock fans for keeping it classy.A lot of trash talk about high school players & coaches. I'm sure every player does their best & every coach is there to win.

  27. Troll has it right. AP has Same schemes. No changes. Actually less diverse offense. I saw quite a bit of shotgun and some clever swing pass at Milan last year from AP. This year it is literally back to 1997 offense. As I’ve said, that is what happens when u hire the most connected vs the most qualified. The league being more even this year is the only reason AP saw a few wins. Upper admin allowed it to happen. Not the kids fault.

I’ve seen tecumseh play. Spread offense. Turf field. Lots of speed. The last game is NOT going to be a pretty ending for AP week 9

  28. Huron will finish at least 6-3 possibly 7-2. Far from a failure of a season. I've said all season on here the play calling is way to predictable and it was again last night. Players play but couches implement the game plan. Riverview lived up to there billing just pound the rock. Huron D did everything it could but when offense gets the ball they have to keep pace. Defense and special teams were Hurons best units last night and forced the Pirates to at least go the length of the field to score. As for QB change you could put #1 in as he showed last year he's has as strong an arm as there is in the league and has a 30 yrd TD this year from half back pass but you can't take him off D. He's leading team in tackles and is invaluable in run support. Big game next week against FR to close out the league season. GO CHIEFS. !!

  29. One more thing-Everyone that says Airport deserves better and nothing has changed. This is obviously because Airport keeps hiring Airport people that only know the Wing T. Since 1996 Airport has ran the Wing T without even attempting to change anything about it. That's another part of the problem. The QB waggle should be ripped up and thrown in a fire. Worst pass play ever.

    The Troll

  30. The problem with Airport is if they do a complete overhaul it's not going to matter. A lot of these boys are seniors and the shelf is looking pretty bare in the younger classes. Junior class has some talent but probably not enough size. Hate to say this but I guess we are what we are. Last night was embarrassing.

    The Troll

  31. GI Scored on a couple broken plays. Milan could of won 80-0. Took all their guys out in the 3rd. Had a running clock for awhile. Hines is starting to figure it out at QB. 19 dressed tonight with 5 sophomores up. A really impressive win that I that I don't think many were expected. GI didn't turn the ball over all night. Was surprised with how the game went after GI played so many teams tough all year and beat Flat Rock.

  32. @1024 what do they deserve? They have to play better… They are coming off of back to back 1-8 seasons the change isn't going to happen overnight

  33. First off spell spiess right secondly 4 touched the ball a total of 1 time tonight so relax. I agree Huron has talent but the kids are the ones playing the game. They haven't played to they're full potential all year

  34. Where is all the talk about Riverview needing the ice packs after the ground game of #33 and #40? I don't think the combined for a total of 50 yards the whole game. Riverview dominated both sides of the ball without question. All the hype for nothing.

  35. Love it! Really? Just dump on the coach since you lost against Riverview. Really? If you are truly a Huron fan, you are pathetic! It's a game and you got out played. I'm not sure how coaching had anything to do with it.

  36. Riverview is a good team and they were definitely the better team tonite. But its not cause of hurons talent they have plenty of talent its cause of the coach. We have a good quarterback that couldve helped win this game but that aint gonna happen cause all its turned into is the speiss show. Its easy to read the O just look for 33 or 4 to have the ball. Mckay is a way better qb and we would be putting up alot more points if he was the qb

  37. Very good chance Huron goes winless the rest of the way. Even if they sneak in at 5-4 they will be one and done against Riverview or Carlson.

  38. Huron League Standings
    Riverview 5-1
    Flat Rock 4-2
    Milan 4-2
    Huron 4-2
    SMCC 3-3
    Grosse Ile 2-4
    Airport 2-4
    Jefferson 0-6

    Updated Final Predictions
    Riverview 6-1
    Milan 5-2
    Flat Rock 5-2
    SMCC 4-3
    Huron 4-3
    Airport 2-5
    Grosse Ile 2-5
    Jefferson 0-7

  39. I was not at the game. Could someone tell me if Huron didn't even sniff the end zone or what. They have an excellent field goal kicker, did they not even get close to field goal range?

  40. Airport has good skilled players.. they just have to get tougher up front…. Smcc Controlled the game up front.. #5 and #7 are pretty good one two punch for Smcc..

  41. Coaching questions swirling around the Island…
It started with one and done 2016 playoff. Way toooo much talent to end 8-2.
2017 was sold out before season started. "We are young" code for not my fault if we go 2-7…
A winning program gets the most out of each team, not "rebuilding" every other year.
Luxury of coaching football on the Island is waiting every 3 or 4 years for bonanza of talent to get you a winning team.
AD is happy with soccer, Golf and CC programs;).
    Red Devil Uncle.

  42. Go Spartans! We hope Chris has predicted the winner for tomorrow. Sorry Gary! Thanks for tonight's blog gentlemen! Most exciting season in many years!

  43. AP kids deserve better nothing was changed offense defense special teams it's the same show we were sold he was gonna bring something more to the table being around Giarmo? Somebody needs to answer

  44. Reading these comments you would think Airport was the big loser in the league tonight, but that would be Huron. Biggest regular season game in Huron history and they lay an egg at home. When it comes to Huron winning a Huron league football title its just like that song from the 90's "never gonna get it, never gonna get it"

  45. Hats off to Jefferson bears them boys cld easily be a playoff team. They gave the RAMS everything they cld handle tonight. The RAMS showed a playoff caliber team tonight they stood strong with there backs against the wall…..an BLAKE MONTIY was clutch tonight goodjob B-BOY dad loves you 88……..GOODTIMES

  46. Riverview had two long drives that deflated Huron. Their first drive of the game went 80yds and another just before half of 99yds. They were clock eaters tonight. Way to go Bucs! Huron League Champs!

  47. Great night by Aeshbacker from Milan. Hell of a ball player (and only a junior). Keep up the great work Hunter.

    -Rowland Dad

  49. Bears and Rams played a nice game on a wet night. Bears came close with both teams scoring in 1st overtime. Two point conversion in 3rd OT was difference for Rams. Playoff here we come! Great game Jefferson also!

  50. I mean this in a truely non mocking way. Jefferson is the best winless team in the state. Played everyone tough and ran out of gas in the 2nd half. Hats off to Jefferson for playing hard each game and for never quitting. When the last place team could have 3 or 4 wins that shows balance. Hats off bears from a Ram fan.

  51. Agreed Chris. Huron actually enjoyed great field position all game. Defense wasn't the problem and the punter was awesome. But that offense 🙄🙄🙄

  52. Airport will be okay. The boys play hard each game. Last year Coach Baas and Mossburg had them give their best and they are still playing strong for new Coach Duffy. Several exciting games this year. Huron league is awesome with Rams,Milan,Chiefs,Pirates, and maybe Falcons to playoffs. Jets,Bears, and Grosse Ile all have played well at times this year.

  53. Oh but Coach Tom— how could I just say nothing when all of you have had so much to say all damn season. That doesn’t seem quite fair now does it?

  54. I was at the Riverview/Huron game. The Pirates were much bigger and more physical than Huron. They were clearly the better team. I thought Huron's defense played well enough to win. The Chief offense was woeful, but Riverview obviously had something to do with that. Play calling was a bit suspect I thought. Huron's tendencies are obvious and there is no hiding their plays. You know when they are going to run and when they are going to pass. Makes it pretty easy on the defense.

  55. 2nd the props to the Pirates. Well-coached, excellent execution, and disciplined play. And the refs weren't out to get you this week (parting shot JD)! Good luck on the rest of the journey!

    – Huron fan

  56. No I haven't had too many, just sad to see Airport not perform like I knew they could've. Unfortunately everyone from the Downriver League sees AP as standing for Allen Park, I want our Ap on here to perform in he same way. The more Huron League teams in the playoffs the better in my eyes.

  57. Congrats to Ida. That's impressive. Suppose to be a down year with a new coach and they knock off Hudson. I watched Airport get the better of Ida in the scrimmage at the beginning of the year. Goes to show a huge difference in programs-one improved greatly and the other completely fell apart.

    The Troll

  58. After watching tonight's game between airport and CC i can tell you this for a fact the Offensive and defensive line coach from airport has absolutely no clue what the heck he's doing out there.

  59. Newsflash for all you jokers running your mouth about Airport…..I’ll hop back in here in about another 5 weeks when none of your teams ever see the likes of Ford Field. Apparently every team is a super star in the making besides Airport….please…….enough

  60. AP on twitter stands for Associated Press, so I'd reccomend you change your initials on that website too. Since the Associated Press is much more well known and respected too.

  61. as I have kept saying airport play nobody the first half of the year and now they're playing teams and their true colors are coming out

  62. Man 8:53 you really hold a grudge. Them Airport kids must really have given you a good butt whipping back in the day

  63. It's official airport Jets have no offensive line, defensive line, running game or passing game. to top that off they can't tackle.

  64. Milan scores again to end the half. Hines rolls right and throws deep to his left, hitting Aeschbacher over the shoulder on a wheel route. Milan 37, Grosse Ile 14 at halftime.

  65. If this was the Downriver League blog AP would stand or Allen Park, but since it's the Huron Leagueblog AP stands for Airport. If you don't like it create to your own blog and leave!!

  66. Lockeroom report: CC cheer team has decided to call it quits at the half. Tired of doing push ups after each score. Stay tuned for more.

  67. GI having success with the short passing game until Harwood rips a long run nearly into the end zone. GI punches it in on the next play. The Milan lead is cut to 30-14 with 2:22 left in the half.

  68. Riverview runs the table and wins out. They learned their lesson in the Flat Rock game, and will be better prepared for a Huron League title run and a pretty good seed in the MHSAA Playoffs….

  69. Riverview beating Huron seems very likely if they keep playing the way they have been.

Grosse Ile besting a Milan team with only 15 healthy varsity players and a couple JV kids most certainly would not be an upset. Plus, they are are playing at home.

  70. Hines shows off the arm with a rollout bomb to Victor Knight. Knight was all alone beyond the defense, hauled it in, and raced the rest of the way to paydirt. Milan leads 16-0.

  71. Milan is off to a great start so far. The Big Reds held GI to a 3 and out. Hines' punt return puts the Big Reds in the red zone. Aeschbacher punches it in for the touchdown and Milan now leads 8-0. Grosse Ile with another 3 and out on offense and Milan has the ballgame again.

  72. Looking for a great night of football in the Huron league. Can the Monroe teams beat the Jets and Rams? Will the Pirates of Riverview rain on Huron's parade and can the Grosse Ile team get another upset victory? Huron League rocks this year!!!!
