By Frank Vajcner

Here are the nominees for the week 1 Player of the Week. There were numerous great performances around the FNV area, but these are the ones we chose. Go to our Twitter account @FNVictors to vote.

Cole Giesege, RB, Whiteford. The senior was a game-changer for the Bobcats, as he recorded 235 all-purpose yards, and scored three total touchdowns, with each coming a different way (rushing, kickoff return, receiving) in Whiteford’s 52-21 dismantling of Blissfield.

Cole Giesege

Owen Sampson, RB, Ida. Sampson started off his senior campaign with a bang, as he rang up 208 rushing yards and a touchdown on 20 carries, and also added a 37-yard reception in Ida’s 43-26 win over Airport.

#2, Owen Sampson

Brody Kellems, RB, Grosse Ile. It appears that the Red Devils may have found the next man up to replace the production of do-everything running back Joe Pizzo in Kellems. He carried the ball 29 times for 182 rushing yards and 3 TDs in the Red Devils’ 40-21 win over Riverview Gabriel Richard.

#12, Brody Kellems

Carson Irwin, QB/DB, Dundee. Irwin made an impact on both sides of the ball for the Vikings in their dramatic 25-18 win over Summit Academy. The senior passed for 137 yards and two scores and rushed for 56 yards and the game-winning touchdown. He also helped set up said game-winning score by returning an interception 69 yards to the 1-yard line with 20 seconds left.

#12, Carson Irwin
