Week 8 Player of the Week Candidates

By Frank Vajcner

Each week, I will go through the box scores of all of our teams and pick four players whom I will turn to you, the people, to determine our Player of the Week. Go over to our Twitter/X page to vote: @FNVictors

There are a lot of choices in a given week, so narrowing them down to four is a challenge in itself. If you have anyone in particular to nominate, hit me up on Twitter (that will actually help me out more, as my Friday nights are busy with officiating).

You can then vote in our poll on X to determine the final outcome.

Dean Thomas, RB, Ida: Thomas turned in a record-breaking performance in a 55-14 rout of Adrian Madison. The junior rang up a school record 340 rushing yards and five touchdowns on just 12 carries.

Ian Foster, QB, SMCC: Foster backed up one strong performance with an encore in a 41-14 win over Jefferson. The junior rushed 182 yards and three touchdowns on just six carries.

Braiden Whitaker, WR, Dundee: The old adage “big time players make big time plays” proved to be true for Whitaker. The senior hauled in five receptions for 99 yards and two touchdowns,  caught the game-tying two-point conversion, and was a key blocker to help teammate Trey Parker score a walk-off touchdown in overtime as the Vikings shocked Hudson 22-16.

Hunter Poignon, RB, Bedford: Poignon played a big part in helping the Mules break out of the doldrums. The senior rushed for 144 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries as Bedford outlasted Monroe 21-15 to keep the golden cleat.

Honorable Mention: Izaiah Wright, RB, Carlson; Brody Lavis, DB, Carlson; Jack Mills, RB, Airport; Hayden Noland, RB/PR, Summerfield; Hunter DeBarr, RB, Whiteford; Nathan Pinkava, RB, Riverview
