FNV 2023 Overall Player of the Year

Each year Friday Night Victors chooses a Player of the Year for offense and defense along with an Overall Player of the Year. We also have our All Blog teams. Those will all be coming out this week. As always, let’s celebrate those who were chosen and considered for all of the 2023 awards.

In what was a very unique year, we had numerous athletes who could have been named the FNV Overall Player of the Year. There were literally 7 or 8 players considered for the award and FNV decided to change it up for the first time in history.

Your FNV Overall Player of the Year will be shared this season as Flat Rock’s Brian Booms and Airport’s Jack Mills are both deserving of the award.

Jack Mills helped lead Airport to a historical season this year as the Jets finished 10-2 and won the Huron League for the first time since 2008 while reaching the Regional final.

The 6’1″ 185 lb senior excelled on both sides of the ball. Defensively he led the Jets in tackles with 70 while recording 5 TFL’s, 2 fumble recoveries and 2 INT’s. On offense, he rushed for 1,410 yards and 17 TD’s while also catching 18 passes for 343 yards and 3 TD’s. He also returned a kick and a fumble for TD’s.

Coach Duffy’s Thoughts: “Jack Mills is the most complete football player that I’ve had the pleasure of coaching.  We have asked a lot out of Jack over the past 2 seasons.  He has played multiple positions, been both a running and receiving threat as well as leading our defense.  He is as tough as any player I’ve coached and leads by example.

FNV Thoughts: Jack Mills is an absolute beast. It didn’t matter if he was running with the ball, blocking for a teammate or making a tackle; he was going to make you feel it. In an Airport team full of stars, he was the brightest.

Brian Booms Flat Rock RB/DB

Brian Booms a 5’11”, 180 RB/DB had a monster season for the 9-4 Rams, as they advanced to the state semi-finals for only the second time in school history.

Booms ran for 1,713 yards and scored 32 TD’s. He also caught 32 passes for 320 yards and 2 TD’s while also throwing 1 TD pass.

On defensive, Booms recorded 117 tackles, 1 sack, recovered a fumble and blocked 2 punts. He finished his career as the Rams all-time leading tackler with over 300.

Coach Reaume’s Thoughts: “Brian Booms did everything for our team.  He ran it, caught it, and threw it on offense. This year, he took his  running game to another level.”

FNV Thoughts: Brian Booms is a great high school football player. He had arguably the greatest season of any high school athlete ever to don the green and gold of Flat Rock High.

  • Two deserving players. I have watched both since they were Yellowjackets winning a Peanut Bowl all the way through high school. Great athletes and even better humans. Good luck with the next step in each of your journeys.
