Flat Rock 2016 Preview

Flat Rock finished 3-6 last season after finishing 0-9 the previous two seasons. The Rams return a host of veterans and will be bolstered by a successful JV team that will give the Rams their largest roster in years at 29. Brandon Reaume is entering his second year at the helm of the program.

The strength of the Ram team will be the defense which returns 8 starters. The linebacking core will anchor that defense led by senior Eric Thomas, junior Sameer Tayeb and sophomore Michael Simon. Senior DE Noah Zarbaugh will anchor the defensive line.

On offense, the Rams return 5 starters, but must replace their do everything QB Justin Roberts who graduated in June. His replacement is junior Jacob Dotson. Dotson will have the versatile Anthony Higginbotham who led the Rams in TD’s last season and will play multiple skill positions on offense.  The RB will be junior Sage Daniels. The line is anchored by junior Mason Hamilton who enters his 3rd season on varsity.

Flat Rock is definitely headed in the right direction. The commitment and talent levels are the highest they have been since 2012. While the Rams may be more competitive than the recent past it may not result in a improved record just yet. Prediction: 1-6 League, 3-6 Overall

  1. Not one for predictions, but I think FR could surprise this year. Just my two cents, but I don't necessarily buy into JV talent immediately translating to the Varsity level. The game is faster, the kids are bigger/stronger, and there can be a learning curve for some. FR has a majority of starters back on offense and defense who already have two and three years of Varsity experience, and would like nothing more than to prove others wrong. As I said before, no predictions here, and don't mean to take anything away from other teams, but I do believe FR could be a sleeper this year.
