Huron 2016 Preview

Huron is coming off of a 5-5 record in a season in which they qualified for the playoffs for a second consecutive year. The Chiefs will be without their head coach for the last 12 years as Dan Kalbfleisch took an administrative job at Gibraltar Carlson. Dan’s father Jim Kalbfleisch has been named the interim coach for the 2016 season.

Offensively Huron must try and replace arguably the best QB in Huron history in the departed Matt Hartwick. Junior Brett McKay will get the nod for the Chiefs in the opener. Junior RB Reed Smith will most likely be the feature back. Senior Tyler Floyd will anchor the line.

The Chief defense returns their leading tackler in senior Nik Becker along with senior DE Brent Kosikowski and senior safety Garrett Krzeminski. Look for junior CB Carlos Beltran to make an immediate impact on defense.

Huron has the talent to make a run at the Huron League title and boast arguably their strongest physical team ever. While the Chiefs would seem to be a year away from a title run they have a solid blend of senior and juniors right now. The Chiefs open at home on Thursday against Avondale. Prediction: 4-3 League, 6-3 Overall

  1. If he was the QB at the Carlson 7 on 7 a few weeks back the kid impressed the hell out of me. Seemed like every pass he threw was a perfect spiral with great touch for his receivers to run under.
