Summerfield 2020 Schedule Analysis

2020 Schedule Analysis: Summerfield Bulldogs

By Frank Vajcner

It’s now time to head to The Burg (Petersburg) for a look at the Summerfield Bulldogs. The Tri-County Conference looks a lot different now, but the new faces are quite familiar to the Bulldogs. How does the rest of the schedule shape up?

2020 Schedule:

Aug 28: Allen Park Cabrini

Sept 3: @ Dundee

Sept 11: @ Britton-Deerfield

Sept 18: Erie Mason

Sept 25: @ Pittsford

Oct 2: Adrian Madison

Oct 9: Sand Creek

Oct 16: @ Morenci

Oct 23: Whiteford

Gut-Check Game: Erie Mason. I’ve already mentioned that Erie Mason is one of two newcomers to the Tri-County Conference, but they are quite familiar with the Bulldogs. Last season, the Eagles shredded the Bulldog defense in a 58-40 defeat. To make matters worse, the Eagles return plenty of firepower. If Year Two under Alex Lipka is a bounce-back year, getting a win over the new kids on the block will be a nice place to start.

Trap Game: at Pittsford. A week after Erie Mason pays a visit, the Bulldogs will make a 43-mile trek into Hillsdale County to face the other TCC newcomer in Pittsford. Even though the Bulldogs defeated the Wildcats 18-0 last season, this is not a game to overlook.

Snoozer: Morenci. Refer to Erie Mason analysis, and you’ll know why.

Non-Conference Challenge: Dundee returns to the schedule for the first time since 2004. The Vikings went 5-5 last season, and qualified for the playoffs.

Notable: Summerfield’s schedule has a lot of familiar names besides the TCC newcomers. I mentioned Dundee returning for the first time in 16 seasons, but Allen Park Cabrini also returns to the schedule for the first time since 2011. The Monarchs went 3-6 last season.

Thoughts from Frank: What will help Summerfield is that the majority of their tough games in the TCC (Erie Mason, Sand Creek, Whiteford) are at home. If the Dawgs want to get back to the postseason, getting a win in at least two of those games will be paramount.

Thoughts from Chris: Virtually every game on the schedule is winnable or losable. With that said, if the Bulldogs play well defensively, they have a solid chance at making the playoffs.

Thoughts from Gary: Not an easy schedule whatsoever for the Bulldogs. Getting off to a fast start will be paramount if Summerfield expects a trip to the playoffs.

  1. Non-league schedule looks tough on paper, but those teams will be down a tad. Summerfield can win some games.
