Grosse Ile/Detroit HFCS

Grosse Ile (8-1) is coming off of a convincing win over Riverview 40-13. Henry Ford Creative Studies (0-6) is coming off of a 48-6 loss against Harper Woods.

This game will get ugly. The Mustangs are a first year program while Grosse Ile is hoping for another deep playoff run. Pick: Grosse Ile 55 HFCS 0

  • Weak non-conference games for GI is also a function of the oh-for years too. While it probably fit the bill then to schedule a "softy", it doesn't now.

All other points mentioned are factors for sure...tough to find non-conf games with some league rules nowadays.

  • Actually I heard that Farmington Hills Harrison and another power house like Brother Rice or De Lasalle were some of the other options for GI to play the last game. At least Okler did not jump for us to play them. It's true that that Dundee or the Lenewee league only plays non conference the first two weeks of the season so they were out this year. Hopefully next year we can get a little better fit for the last game.

  • Some of you may have forgotten but this was originally the home and home game with Dundee. We went there and this year they were to come to GI-much like Onstead the last two years. However Dundee this year entered a conference much like the The Downriver League where you only play league members. That meant GI had to scramble to find a opponent this week(agreed its a cake-walk, but at the time Dundee cancelled there wasnt many teams with week #9 open).

  • In all fairness to Grosse Ile, a program has to start somewhere and HFCS happens to be a first year program.

My school has played HFCS the last two years in basketball. We beat them both times. The first year they had some real young talent. Last year those players had left and gone to a better basketball school. There a many schools ready to come in and take your talent if you have any. If HFCS has any talent at all, you can bet someone in the city is talking to the kid about transferring already.
