  1. The Coach is a huge part of the team… so I would say Milan was better.. especially since they won.

  2. Milan was not better then Lincoln last year. They just out coached them and had a ton of hard nosed kids. Lincoln lost 45-40 against Wyndotte Roosevelt in the playoffs and they were one of the top 5 teams in metro Detroit last year.

Milan will be very good again as long as they stay healthy. Very comparable to last season. I don't see them having more then 25 guys on the team again this year. Only 5-6 seniors on the roster this season.

    1. lLincoln fan oops I mean Milan fan 2012 Milan won by 22 over lincoln 2013 Milan beat Ypsilanti 13 to 6 and robert kanitiz was hurt the first play and if they would have played Lincoln in 2013 they would have won

  3. I agree on the Mitroka comment. I saw him during track. Speed a little off, but he certainly is bigger and stronger. I would imagine he will be 100% by football. He may not be as quick because of the obvious weight gain, but he will be fast enough. I promise. That kid is a very very good football player.

  4. @EM Mitroka is back! His speed is not quite there but his strength and weight are better than last year, he has ZERO pain in his knee, he ran track, played June basketball and summer league AAU 7 on 7.

    1. No need. I'm just stating the obvious, not calling anyone out. GI looks better than the team from 2011. Airport can't beat many teams with the talent that they currently have. Watch the game in October, talk is cheap.

    2. Right we all have our predictions. Week six will determine the league champs Milan vs Smcc. Cant wait till end of august and october

  5. If Mitroka is healthy it will be a good game. This is not an easy injury to comeback from so quickly. EM

  6. LOL at the guy that says Airport will only beat FR & maybe Jefferson. Airport will also beat Riverview, Huron, Adrian & GI. Tecumseh, CC & Milan will be the 3 toughest. EM

    1. Airport beating GI @ GI at their Homecoming is quite a stretch, even if they are the team you say, EM. Remember, a huge part of the game is mental. Speaking of mental, With Mitroka back, 2 fabulous backs, an excellent receiver, a line that will make you want to cry, and a fast and large safety, you'd have to be mental to think that anyway. Ha

  7. They could've went to Jefferson and played wherever they wanted to and probably put Jefferson in a position to win the league…but now they'll be maybe above average at best at Monroe and not help the team by very much.

  8. They have also attended Jefferson's BFS program. They have been at a few different schools working out. Good luck wherever they go.

  9. I agree that it is a family matter.. but it sure is hard to predict who will win the league unless we know where they are going. Ive been around the kids since they have been in 6th grade. Where ever they end up I wish them well… even at Jefferson.

  10. Jefferson will have a good year this year. Many good athletes in this current senior class, plus 2nd year of the new coaching staff.
Program is headed in a great direction, more kids than ever taking part in summer workouts. They will surprise many. Maybe not up to SMCC and Milan just yet, but the cycle is beginning. Not many studs down the road at CC and Milan, Jefferson has plenty coming up. All sports too.

Predictions on here haven't been real accurate the past few years and they won't be this year either.

Jefferson will finish 3rd in league, scare the heck out of CC and Milan, AND make the playoffs.

By the way, twins still at CC. Its a private family issue, shouldn't be on here. I know the family. We will all find out when practice starts.

  11. There is some real talent this year on the GI team, both on D and O. It looks like they have been working in the off season to prepare. Some of those players are huge and powerful. Didn't notice them last year. Eating their Wheaties I guess.

  12. Both will probably start at LB or DE wherever they go. On offense.. I had them pegged at G at SMCC, at Monroe they might carry the ball, who knows? They have the talent to both carry the ball and play on the LOS.

  13. Sounds like an Airport crybaby. Don't worry you guys will at least beat Flat Rock. Not too sure about Jefferson though.

  14. Milan will be hurt from losing two way starter and 1st team all league linebacker Josh Coville. I believe he had around 150 tackles last year. Had a shot to be a legitimate all state player this year. Too bad for him and for Milan.

    Milan Fan

  15. Thanks Chris. I am just giving info on a nice new player. I have no kid in the program. Just enjoy watching Milan as I have for years.

  16. What's up with all the comments about player's parents being on here? Other people can make positive comments about players.

I have heard from numerous college coaches that the transfer to Milan is at the real deal. I have also heard from many coaches and have seen with my own eyes that the twins are pretty damn good too!

Stop with the childish rhetoric every time someone post something positive about a kid.

    1. Someome with such connections (rubbing elbows with many college coaches) shouldn't be afraid to leave a name. So is this one of the leagues 2 or 3 head coaches that have actually talked to college coaches before? Do you have Hoke's phone number? I'd love to run a few things by him!

  17. Really Milan fan give it a rest. YOUR KID my turn out to be a good player, but at this point since he hasn't played one down in the Huron League lets just see if he can live up to your expectations. We'll maybe talk again in December.

  18. I watch SMCC last year and there were surely no D1 football players on that team. Sorry I just didn't see it. If they were D1 or even D2 for that matter they would have dominated games. That just did not happen. They surely wouldn't have lost to an average Milan team.

  19. Do you think the Couturier's will start at Monroe? I think they will do well in that league! They are great athletes.

  20. There are definitely some great players in this league. It is rare however that you see D-1 type players. Kids like Kanitiz, Hoover, McCormick, sandore, Mitroka are all D-2 type of players, even if they didn't play or went D-3. I believe Josh Smith was the only Huron League player to get a scholarship to a D-2 school-Northwood. I think McCormick is going there to just punt. It really shows you how good you have to be to even play D-2. If there were any others, I sure didn't see them.

The new LB from Milan is a legitimate D-1 prospect with 2 more years of HS football left. Excited for people in the league to see him. Watched him in a 7 on 7 a few weeks ago and looks to have the size and speed to be a MAC type of player. Heard he performed very well at Sound Mind Sound Body against some of the best prospects in the Midwest. This is just an opinion as the kid has a long way to go, but the talent seems to be there.

    Milan Fan

  21. D1 talent? Is there a player in the huron league that is a division 1 football player? That's not saying it's not good football. Do you remember what Tre bishop looked like for airport. That was a division 1 football player.

  22. I got word they are going to Jefferson from a student in their class at SMCC. Maybe they changed their minds and are going to Monroe.

Either way, its a blow to CC, they would have been 2-way starters at CC at most likely the Guard positions or TE and LB or DT on D. D1 college level talent.

  23. The transfer rule does change this school year, but it has to do with players who follow a coach to a different school or who practice with teams then transfer. The rule then requires an athlete to sit 180 school days.

Here is some information on the transfer rules by the MHSAA.

    http://www.mhsaa.com/Portals/0/Documents/AD%20Forms/Regulations%20Simplified%20Transfer.pdf

    http://www.mhsaa.com/Portals/0/Documents/AD%20Forms/eligibility%20summary.pdf

    http://www.mhsaa.com/Portals/0/Documents/AD%20Forms/CoachesTransfer.pdf

  24. Is it true that the transfer rules are changing this summer? I've read and heard that unless it is an entire family move (school of choice in most cases I would assume) that the player would have to sit out an entire school year starting in August. Thanks and Baas does have prior coaching experience, coached at Airport back 5-6 years ago and coached at Erie Mason when he started teaching there (D coordinator at one point). Not saying he doesn't need more experience, as most should know, 99% of coaches are better once they get experience if they are truly committed.

  25. Hmmmm…interesting. That doesn't mean they will be eligible, but does leave some room for them to play. They should fall under one of the eligibility exceptions and be immediately eligible.

Losing those two hurts SMCC big time. It doesn't mean they won't be my pick to win the league, but certainly puts a chink in the armor of a team that could make a run to Ford Field. As always, the sum is greater than the parts at SMCC, but those are two very good football players whose best days are ahead of them. Reminds me a little of Huron last season. The Chiefs lost their two fastest players on defense in Jimmy Williams (S) and Justin Bush (LB). They Chiefs finished a disappointing 5-4 when the expectations were playoffs or bust.

I would like to see those two stay in the Huron League and go to Jefferson, but the SEC is a much better league overall, especially the Red Division.

  26. It is true, the Couturiers are transferring. They will be going to Monroe. Their mother lives in the Monroe District. Dr. C lives in the Jefferson District. It is

  27. The transfer rule is simple yet complicated. Not sure if the transfer of the twins is true or not. I have heard Jefferson (that would be interesting).

You are eligible to play in the fall if you transfer schools by the fourth Friday in February. If not, they would have to move primary residence from one school school district to another.

It can get really crazy, I deal with this probably as much as any AD in the state. My students move often, I am fortunate that as a charter school we don't take really any 11th or 12th grade transfers because the grades are full. Most transfers at my school are usually 10th graders. We do get a handful that transfer in and end up in 9th grade again because of grades, but then they are ineligible by the grade standard set by the MHSAA.

We will see what happens. I haven't had anyone give me a legitimate source as if any of this transfer stuff is true.

  28. Who ever posted about Couturiers leaving SMCC, please give more info. Where will they go? Also Grosse Ile has the numbers this year. Two teams and both will be deep. If they learn to adjust their defense, they will be great. New coaches have to start somewhere, hope Airport contends. How can kids transfer schools locally and get to play? I thought they had to sit out a season unless they move.

  29. The Smcc linebacker was one of the best in the region as a sophomore. Kevin Couturier is his name. I believe he lead the team in tackles last year. Just a complete animal! I'd hate to see the kid leave. Does anybody know where to??

  30. The problem with Airport is that the best teams in the league will out coach them. SMCC, Milan, and GI. They hired a coach with literally no experience. Hope the best for the guy, but the key to having great teams involves more than talent. You need great assistant coaches who believe in everything you are doing and will ride it out when times are rough. Having an inexperienced coach makes it hard when you start to lose games. I heard the DC/interim coach from 2 years ago is gone also. Not sure if that is good or bad.

    1. Let's give Baas a chance, he will prove his worth this year. His assistants have plenty of experience. He had a rough rookie year just like EVERY other coach in the league. Even Milan's coach went 1-8 his first year.

    2. Hoskins coached under Steve Robb for years before taking over. Baas has no football coaching experience except for last year. I am all about giving people chances but it is awfully hard to have such faith in a kid who hasn't earned it yet.

  31. Milan didn't play their best last year. They took full advantage of the losses the other teams experienced like injuries or depth. SMCC consistently played well, and with the returning players count, the GI game should be interesting. What does happen if GI isn't at full strength though? They combined Varsity and JV to gain numbers last year? I agree the line is solid. Who do they turn to this year if there is a repeat with low numbers on offense?

  32. I am loving how Airport is flying under the radar with most of the bloggers. I guess its because of last season. It's all good, keep underestimating them. EM

  33. I would take the SMCC kid, the GI kid, and kid from Riverview-but I think the Riverview kid might have graduated. With new players coming into the league before I call them the best I like to at least see them play 1 down or maybe a game.

  34. Kid won't even be the best LB in the league this year…. lol…. Really…Please tell me who will be because I sure didn't see anyone who was great last year other than Hoover from Milan and he is a D-3 player. The new kid from Milan has legitimate D-1potential and only being a junior, I could see him being a MAC type of player. You don't see kids like this come through the Huron League very often. Just wait and see.

  35. I'm most excited to see Milan's defense this year without the likes of Hoover, Kanitz, Blackburn, Friese and Hall. Hopefully they work well as a unit and become a force to be reckoned with in such a run heavy league

  36. No one said the new kid from Lincoln was a better LB than Hoover. It is my opinion that he will be the best player in this league over the next two years. With exception to Mitroka if healthy. Cus that kid is a flat out playmaker and it is not fun watching him run around if you're the other team lol.

  37. You're probably right on the kool aid thing. They did start 1-4 last season and had the gut wrenching loss to Riverview, but managed to win the last 4. They pretty much have 3 gimmes, they need to find a way to win 3 more.

I wouldn't disagree on the OC from Milan, he has been very valuable to the Big Reds in many different ways.

  38. Chris,
You've been drinking the huron kool aid too long. Every year they have their "most talented" team…same for this year..they have lineman pulling tractors and a stud QB and this and that…it comes down to coaching…you really think they'll win 6?? They won't beat SMCC..they won't be GI they won't be Milan..after they start 1-3 the wheels fall off..they will slip up to the view or Airport…I promise. I think Jefferson will be down from last year and FR will be a tad more competitive. Milan will finish 2nd..they will lose to SMCC and beat GI..Milan has cortez stud RB/LB LJ new QB..duffney falukner lindeman hendricks and the BIG olinemen from the JV..they will be coached up very well and win games because they have the best OC in the HL…defensively Hoskins will have them flying around..who has better athletes in the league?? NO ONE..they will lose to smcc because they won't be able to stop them…

  39. Milan was not that good last year. That's what people in the Huron League don't understand. They will win the league again and struggle in the playoffs. They don't have the numbers to go far. That's just a fact.

    Milan Fan

  40. People will be surprised by Milan this year. Last year they won with coaching and a bunch of hard nosed kids who bought in. With 25 guys on last years team that is evident. There were no game breakers other then Kanitiz and the freshman. The freshman is back along with some nice new additions. They have way more talent just very young.

People think Milan was great last year, but they we're just above average. Not enough size or talent to make a run. They will be the same this year. Very nice team, but not enough to get it done in the playoffs. Not getting the 50 kids like Robb did.

    1. The last 2 years for Milan was great now we will see on how good they will be this year.as far as more talented I don't see it.last year jv team was good but not league champs so only time will tell

  41. We'll the kid started as a sophomore on a team that won the SEC white. A league that has proven to be a little better then the Huron League over the years, so I doubt playing time is the issue.

I believe the kids name is Cortez Chris. Not sure the last name. But he looks the part and should be a monster for Milan.

    Milan Fan

  42. Milan Fan, What a joke he's a freak of nature, a God looking specimen, a man amongst boys, a tower of power-whatever dad! Let your son prove himself in this league. Give me a break your kid probably left Ypsi cause YOU thought he should be getting more playing time!

  43. The LB who transfered to Milan from Ypsilanti Lincoln started for a 7-2 Lincoln team that won the SEC white as a sophomore last year. Milan is very young, but this kid will be the best player in the Huron League for the next two seasons. After watching there first two 7 on 7s, the kid is an absolute freak of nature.

Only exception is if Mitroka is back 100%. Cus Mitroka is a special talent. Hope the kid is back to full strength. He is really fun to watch.

    Milan Fan

  44. Milan will not lose three games and minus Kanitiz has more talent then last year. Picked last in 2012. Picked 5th in 2013. I really don't see them losing a league game period, let alone 3. We will see.
