Flat Rock @ Grosse Ile

Flat Rock (1-2) is coming off of a 43-12 loss to SMCC while Grosse Ile (1-2) is coming off of a 31-26 upset victory over previously unbeaten Huron. The Red Devils won last year’s game 42-7 and lead the all-time series 36-29.

Flat Rock enters what appears to be a slight lull in the schedule. The Rams have been playing better lately, but playing two of the top teams in the league has hurt. The offense revolves around senior QB Justin Roberts.

Grosse Ile is still flying high after beating the Chiefs last week. The Red Devils racked up 263 rushing yards on just 23 carries in the win. The defense was once again by senior LB Sean Cuddy.

This is an intriguing game that has the Jekyll and Hyde Islanders against an improved Ram team. Both teams sit at 1-2 and a victory for either could help their seasons immensely. Pick: Grosse Ile 31 Flat Rock 19

  • I am quite surprised that you believe that my entire post is uncalled for. I will, however, apologize for my momentary lapse of reason on calling out FR's past record. I was recently in Ram's territory for another event and was given an earful by what I assumed were players and parents when recognized as an Islander and a player's parent. Then after reading posts by Rams players on social media, my knee-jerk reaction came through on this venue. I have no problem admitting when I am wrong.
Posting the good about a team's accomplishments is not inappropriate. Like it or not, stats can, and often do, back up one's claim, which is more than can be said for many of the posts I see. I was merely pointing out that GI's record is not indicative of their ability. It is far better than "GI is going to kick your tails up and down the field" or some of the ridiculous comments I see. Win or lose, I am immensely proud of our guys and will yell it from the rooftops to anyone who will listen.
I'm curious about one thing, Chris. Was it my poor spelling, improper grammar, limited vocabulary, my pocket-sized words or the fact that I know what is said on Twitter that made you believe I was a child?

  • MM,

I'm a Jefferson fan. Keep the stats. Your whole comment is uncalled for. Flat Rock IS headed in a good direction and what you stated happened in the past. The blog is current.

Obviously stats do not make the team. Your 1-2, soon to be 1-3. Flat Rock will probably be your last chance for a victory until you play Southfield Bradford academy.

  • FR parents they have been announcing a 6 pm start time for this game for 2 weeks At games it's a 7 pm start just trying to get the word out.

    • You say FR is on an upswing, but GI just got their groove back.
Let us look at the stats. In our offensive game we have #25, Vollmerhausen with 227 rushing yards, #5, Smorch with 206 receiving yards, #11, Tucker, who by the way, is hands-down the fastest and slickest runner in the league with 3 TD's, #9, Moores, with 415 total yards and a 65% passing rate with 37 passes as a first year QB, and finally, #7 in your program, but #1 in our hearts, who is 7 for 7 as our kicker. Defensively, we have #12, Cuddy who leads the league in tackles at 32, #2, Moskall at 29, and #73, Trombley, who would take on a mac truck if you let him, but the truck wouldn't want him to. This is all with 2 losses, so I say again, consistency from each player in every game will make the difference.
Now let's compare FR's stats, shall we? Wait! No stats available online? I suppose when you are 1 for 19, you don't want to brag. I'm guessing when your players Tweet how bad their team is and how some want to quit, it's time to look at improvements in other areas. For that, and allowing your fellow teammates to bring you down publicly, you should be ashamed. If I found out that my son did that, he'd get his butt whooped.
The rain may be a factor, but 34-12 GI.

  • Upset special right here. GI had Hurons number last week. I think they are in a down year and may not win many more games. Flat Rock is on the upswing finally with some promise down the road. I think Flat Rock will pull this off and just upset the whole applecart.

Flat Rock 28, Grosse Ile 22

  • These GI kids play with heart, and when they are clicking they are not going to lose. Grosse Ile wins 49-14

  • The game will come down to the consistency of the GI team. These young men didn't get lucky with Huron, they played solid, consistent defense throughout the entire game. Their victory over FR last year was lead by Vollmerhausen at RB and Moores at QB which will be the same this game and I expect a similar outcome as last year.
The vast majority of this team have played together since the age of 8 and known one another even longer. This is a tight-knit group that will be difficult to knock down both on and off of the field. They will do whatever they can to not let a teammate down and continue this winning streak.

Go get 'em Devils and then show the rest of the league you are the real deal!

  • This game will come down to FR's ability to stop the run, especially off tackle runs, which has been a problem this year. If they can figure this out, I believe they can keep it close, and maybe pull off the upset, however I realize that is easier said than done since GI rushed for over 250 yards last week.
