Mason finished 2016 with a 1-8 record for the 2nd consecutive year. It was time for a change in Eagle country, which brought on the hire of new Head Coach Rob Beaudrie. Rob is 1990 graduate of SMCC and has been in the coaching game for 24 years, including a head coaching stint at Romulus Summit Academy.
The Eagles have 5 returning letter winners and will be very young in 2017. Mason will be lead offensively by QB Noah Beaudrie(FR), WR Jake Trainor(JR), RB Skylar Lavigne(JR). The offensive line will be anchored by G Ethan Chesney ,(SR 5’11”, 260) and G Chris Torres(SR 5’11”, 270).
On the defensive side of things, Mason will feature “the heart and soul of the defense” LB Troy Reissig(SR 5’8″, 170). Sophomore WR/DB Caden Groesbek has been the biggest surprise early in the season, look for him to add depth on both sides of the ball.
Coaches’ Quote: ” This seasons approach will be taking things one first down at a time. Team is young, but their speed, strength and preparedness will help offset that. We had a great off-season and I feel we are way ahead of where we should be at this point.”
There is enthusiasm and great optimism in Erie. Will the Eagles go 9-0, ummm no probably not. They are very young and probably a year or 2 away from reaching their full potential. Watch for continual improvement throughout the year. No matter the record, this team should be fun to watch.
