Carlson

Questions with the FNV Staff

Which score/result surprised you the most?

Chris: The Whiteford/B-D score in 3 OT’s stood out to me. The way these two teams matched pretty much every touchdown and conversion was pretty neat to follow. I’m sure it was a fun game to watch between two young teams with excellent coaches.

Frank: Truthfully, there were no surprises in terms of winners and losers. But if there is one thing that sticks out in a chalk-heavy week, it was Erie Mason against Dundee. Already eliminated from playoff contention, Rob Beaudrie and company showed that they aren’t just going to lay down and take a beating, as they battled hard in a 38-24 loss to Dundee. The Eagles will head to the Tri-County Conference next season, and I expect them to be a holy terror in 2020 in the TCC.

Gary: What a great HS football game in Ottawa Lake as B-D and Whiteford go toe to toe into the 3rd overtime, with the Bobcats winning it 58-56. That game, got Whiteford in the playoffs with it’s 5th(all class D will get in with 5 wins) victory and held B-D out of the playoffs at 4-4…currently.

Which team is trending up?

Chris: I really like what Carlson is doing right now. The Marauders are winners of 5 straight games and and will host 6-2 Wyandotte Roosevelt in week 9, in what should be a great tune up game for the playoffs.

Frank: Milan is making a push to be special. The Big Reds faced a tricky game on the road in Carleton, and they passed the test with flying colors as they dismantled Airport 20-6. With only woebegone Tecumseh remaining, Jesse Hoskins and company will look to put an exclamation point on the regular season.

Gary: Winners of 5 in a row, the Falcons of SMCC have things rolling. Currently ranked #1 in Division 6, the Falcons dismantled their crosstown rival in Jefferson, by a score of 48-10 .

Which week 9 game stands out to you?

Chris: Without a doubt, it would be undefeated 8-0 Hillsdale at 5-3 Dundee. The Vikings match up well against the Hornets. A win would vault them into the playoffs for the first time since 2012. A loss would not be devastating though, as Dundee has a solid chance to get into the playoffs at 5-4. Much will depend on how their opponents, whom they beat, fair in week 9.

Frank: Hillsdale at Dundee. The Hornets are unbeaten and have all but locked up the LCAA crown outright. Dundee is looking to punch their ticket to the playoffs for the first time since 2012. Here’s an added kicker: this will likely be the final game played at Dundee’s football field, as they will have a new stadium next season. If you like storylines, this game is for you.

Gary: I’m looking at Wyandotte Roosevelt at Gibraltar Carlson. Both Teams have locked up a playoff berth, however a win in week 9 would go a long way in terms of momentum going into the playoffs and securing a home playoff game. Carlson would much rather entertain the likes of Riverview than make a trip to Allen Park.

  • Snooze2you currently has Airport at Redford Union with the winner playing the Summit/Harper Woods Chandler Park winner. Seems like a winnable district for Airport, what do you guys think?

    • Milan would have it very nice in this set up as well.

Seems things are really jumbled, I would expect things get moved around in a week.

      • Looking at snooze's new matchups, this Milan fan definitely agrees. Wow, what a difference a week makes!

          • That would help. DCD being in a different region would also help. Potentially three home games. Milan's region would only have one other team with 2 or fewer losses, and that's unproven Summit Academy.

Yeah, that is a much, much easier path.

  • Hillsdale at Dundee has all the makings of a great story Frank. Dundee has always been left out in the cold by fractions of a point when they finish 5-4. It is the last high school game from what I understand in their stadium before the move into the new one next year. Coach Mcelvaney has had some real heartbreaking losses in the last few years so it would be nice to see him finally get the big one too. Good luck Vikings! I bet it will have a playoff like atmosphere on Friday night in Dundee. Believe in yourselves men, it won't be easy but you got this!
