Erie Mason Eagles @ Clinton Redskins

The TCC Champion Erie Mason Eagles stand at 7-0, coming off a resounding week 1 playoff victory over the Ecorse Red Raiders, 56-0. For the Eagles, this is the first playoff appearance since 2003. Erie Mason has an overall playoff record of 10-6 and are fronted by 4th year Head Coach Rob Beaudrie. Clinton, the 2nd place finisher in the LCAA, enters week 2 of the playoffs as a result of a 59-20 dismantling of Detroit Voyageur in week 1. The Redskins are a playoff mainstay, having missed the playoffs only twice since 2006. Clinton has an overall playoff record of 18-20 and are lead by Head Coach Jeremy Fielder. This will be the 28th time these 2 teams have met on the varsity grid-iron with Clinton leading the series 14-13.

Erie Mason Eagles(7-0 Tri-County Conference)

Erie brings a high powered offensive attack which averages 56.2 points per game while giving up only 13 ppg. Working out of the shotgun, 4th year ’21 Quarterback Noah Beaudrie comes in with gaudy numbers. 1,393 yds passing, 25 TD, 1 INT. 964 yards rushing, 16 TD, 10.71 yards per carry. Beaudrie’s main 2 weapons are WR ’21 Tanner Herrera, 629 yards receiving 10 TD and WR ’22 Bryce Diehl 19 rec, 369 yds, 9 TD. Other stand outs include DL ’21 Cooper Kinsey, LB ’22 Elija Araiza, DB ’21 Zach Brown.

Comment from Coach Beaudrie: “We just need to keep focused and stay the course.  The kids have not let anything on the outside interfere with what our plan has been and have been motivated on a daily basis for what needs to happen to keep going strong.  We are getting better everyday and will continue to do so until the goal has been met.”

Clinton Redskins (6-1 LCAA)

Clinton enters Friday’s showdown boasting a tremendous ground game, primarily out of the Full House T. The Redskins average 41 ppg while giving up 18.4. Spreading the wealth at running back, RB ’21 David Campbell , RB ’22 George Ames, RB ’21 Braydon Randolph and RB ’23 Zak Shadley will see the majority of the carries. All three have bulky yards per carry average, all nearing the 10 yard per carry mark. Featuring tremendous size up front, OL/DL ’21 Will Felts, OL/DL ’21 Tyler Bowles, TE/LB ’21 Tommy Burt will do damage on both sides of the ball.

Comment from Coach Fielder: “They have an unprecedented offensive attack, with an outstanding quarterback, receivers, and overall scheme. They are playing extremely well and appear to have great leadership. It will take our best effort in all three phases to keep it close Friday.”

FNV Thoughts: Let me just start out by saying this is a tremendous showdown. Both teams came into this 2020 season with extremely high hopes and neither have disappointed. The winner of this game could very well make it to the State Championship game. These teams are that good. Will the road be easy, quite the contrary, but the Eagles and the Redskins have what it takes. A contrast in style of play, Mason might toss the ball around 25 times while Clinton will keep their focus on the ground. I chose this contest as this week’s standout game and I do not think it will fall short of that. As an old commenter on the blog used to say, “strap it up tight”, this one will be one to remember.
