We now head up Fort Street and stop next door to the Crystal Gardens Reception Center. Riverview rolled through the regular season unbeaten, but petered out in the playoffs. How will things work for the Pirates schedule-wise this season?

Gut-Check Game: This one I actually had to think hard about, as the Pirates won every game by double digits last season, but I’ll go with the season opener at Divine Child. Even though the Falcons have fallen on hard times, and got beaten by the Pirates 64-42 last season, going into someone else’s barn to open the season is never easy.
Trap Game: Airport comes to town a week before the annual Colvin Cup game at arch-rival Grosse Ile. Derek McLaughlin will have to keep his team from looking ahead. You can also make a case for a trip to Flat Rock, which is a week before SMCC visits.
Snoozer: I’m starting to consider not including this section, at least for the Huron League teams.
Non-Conference Challenge: In addition to a trip to Divine Child, the Pirates welcome Monroe to town to end the season. The Trojans went 4-5 last season with a 28-17 loss to the Pirates, but played an arduous schedule. I also should mention that the smack talk between both fan bases in the comment section of last season’s entry was entertaining.
Notable: The schedule remains the same as last season in terms of opposition for the Pirates.
Thoughts from Frank: Is another undefeated season in the cards for Riverview? They are still the top dogs in the Huron League until someone beats them. Divine Child should provide a nice indication of where they are at. The Pirates will need wins from their opposition if they want a home playoff date.
Thoughts from Chris: I like the way the schedule shakes out for the Pirates. Week 1 at DC should give Coach McLaughlin an idea of where his team stands for the 2022 season.
Thoughts from Gary: Well done with the non-league games. DDC and Monroe will provide solid playoff points, with View being in D4 this year, will help with a home playoff game. Having Huron and SMCC at home is a nice benefit this year as well. Schedule sets up nice for the Pirates.

If attendance and the hard work displayed throughout the summer workouts are any indication of how the season will shake out the pirates are not resting on their laurels from the previous years. The team has solid leadership from their upper classmen and should do well this season
Been saying for 3-4 years now, Bucs aren’t going anywhere as long as Coach Mac is there.
They have fully established their identity and its a good one.
While my direct family attends SMCC, we do have family in the downriver area. I have been told Riverview has had great numbers in the weight room all summer and Coach Mac has held them to high expectations. I do recall their JV team being pretty dang good as well. I expect Riverview-SMCC-Huron to compete for the Huron League championship this year.
