New Boston Huron Chiefs 2022 Team Preview

Huron is coming off of a season that saw the Chiefs go 5-5 after making the playoffs for the second consecutive season and the 6th time in the last 8 seasons. Veteran coach Tom Hoover arrives in New Boston after the departure of head coach Chad Smith.

Head Coach: Tom Hoover 1st season, 20 years overall (171-50)

Assistants: Marc Gonyea, Pat Callahan, Joe Petrena, Chad Smith, Gilbert Brown, Dylan Berry, Scott Christie, Sean Stephens, Josh Banas, Drew Callahan

Offense: On offense, the Chiefs will most likely be led by two different QB’s. Senior Gavin Moczydlowsky took snaps last year for the team and could be counted on as a RB instead. Junior Christian Copley will also take snaps as well. Both players split the duties during Huron’s preseason scrimmage. Senior TE, Rory Callahan will be a big target and is committed to Central Michigan. Senior Josh Buettner will anchor offensive line.

Defense: On defense, Callahan and Buettner will team with Jesse Brown and Ethan Woolery to form a solid defensive line. The linebackers will be juniors Micah Smith and Brennan Caldwell. Look for senior Sammy Farrugia to contribute in the defensive secondary.

FNV Outlook: It’s tough to get a solid read on the Chiefs at this point. There is some talent and everyone knows that Tom Hoover will coach this team up. The Chiefs have a brutal early season schedule with games against Milford, Milan and Riverview the first 3 weeks of the season. Those teams were a combined 24-7 in 2021. If the Chiefs can avoid going 0-3 to start the year, they should find a way to qualify for the playoffs for a 3rd consecutive year.
