  1. OK, Milan fans. Most of you have done a good job of taking your medicine. We should expect some celebrating by others now that the streak is over. Now, on to the game:

First, congrats to Riverview for the win under adverse situations. Normally, the long bus ride can be a factor. The Pirates had to travel twice and they came to play both days. They used their size advantage in the trenches well and also won the composure battle. Their power running and short passing game was very effective–especially in the 1st quarter to set the tone and in the 4th quarter when they needed to play keepaway.

Now, to my Big Reds: small and young is a tough combination to overcome, but small, young and dumb is just about insurmountable. The personal fouls have to stop, and to have two against your defense while your opponent is trying to run out the clock is backbreaking.

Medvecz's growing pains continue to be on display. Losing a fumble to the turf monster with the game on the line was bad, but his pick-6 early on Saturday was even uglier. Apparently, Medvecz was confused on who his X receiver was (O-Coach Ward had a very vocal reaction with E.J.) and ended up throwing to the left flat, occupied only by Pirate defenders. QB in Milan's offense is a very demanding position. I believe that Medvecz will improve, and the coaches have taken him off of defense so that he can focus on the offensive side of the ball, but he's just not there yet.

Milan can't hang the loss on just one player, though. Even little things like substitutions and lining up right were an issue both days. Some players seemed flat or scared to lose, while other players looked like they were overcompensating a bit, trying to fire up the team.

The season's far from over, but as I've mentioned before, Milan has a lot of work to do to turn things in the right direction. I'll be at the rest of the games, and I hope the fans will continue to support the team. Let's travel in numbers to Jefferson! On, oh Milan!

  2. Jefferson is 0-2 but has the best pass offense in the league? Hmmmmm sounds like they plan on playing from behind a lot. Hope it works out for them but a lot can go wrong when you sling it around too much.

  3. Jefferson has some work to do. Passing wasn't bad, but many fundamental mistakes elsewhere cost them the game. Defensive line over pursues all the time. Airport ran same play 3 times for a touchdown. DOES ANYONE RECONGNIZE THIS!! O line gets stood up all the time, no driving the defense back. Therefore no run game. I could go on. Lets go Bears, you have a lot of talent, put the best kids on the field, no production, they sit.

Thanks to all the good Airport folks who helped us all to shelter as the storm arrived. It was very bad in Carleton.

  4. "Without those penalties it would of been a different game"

If a spaceship landed on the field it would have been a different game too. But it didn't. So stop making excuses. Milan Lost. Riverview won. Get over it.

  5. From a Milan fan who went to every varsity game in the last few years…

Congrats to Riverview. They are in the running for the league championship.

This is not the Milan team of the past two seasons for sure.

They have some potential and some athletes, but this year's Milan team looks to be a few games away from being good, as in executing the offense without mistakes.

Perhaps their schedule will help them, but a well-executed offense will give their defense problems on any week.

It makes for some great league match-ups in the coming weeks.

Now we'll see what they are made of…

    1. Rub it in all you want. Your team will never go 2 years straight with out a league loss. It happens. We have a lot of football left.

  6. Jefferson may have the best passing game in the league. Junior QB Justin Kull has a great arm and their recievers may also be the best In the league. liporato came up big in the second half with 5 receptions and Fiala (Junior) was dominant in the 1st half (played on Friday) with 5 receptions as well. Wilkens also came up with two passes. They spread it out well. If they can get a run game look out

  7. Coming from a jets parent this game had several questionable calls that went in our favor, Jefferson put up a good fight. Good work by both teams!

  8. The way Milan played they deserved to lose. I think that everyone who saw the game would agree. Defense played great and offense drove the ball up and down the field. Turnovers and penalties will lose you games and it did for Milan tonight. They will be fine as this young group matures and learns how to win. Congrats to Riverview.

    Milan Fan

  9. Milan ddnt play well. Had opps but got some unsportsmanlike penalty that shouldn't been called 3 total and one for push at the pile.

  10. But that's the beauty of the sport. It all cones down to who has more DISCIPLINE. And riverview obviously showed they had more of it. Can't make excuses for something you can control just choose not to.

  11. If you are one of the bloggers saying Milan beat themselves you obviously know nothing about football. Milan's only score was on a broken coverage late in the first half. The more physical team won, Milan lost composure and took penalties that cost them the game.

    1. Milan had a chance to tie it up and change momentum. The fumble from our QB on the 25 killed it. No doubt the view was more aggressive. We played like crap. I won't make excuses, we deserve the loss. But I know Milan is better than how they played this week. It definitely should open the players eyes. Time to put it behind and move on. Next up is Jefferson. Maybe we can play better.

  12. Milan is young and will get better with time. Only starting two seniors this year. Two years without losing a Game in the Huron league is very impressive. Losing coville and duffany for the year really hurt them

  13. Very disappointed with my Big Reds. Congrats to Riverview, they brought what I would call a B game and Milan just flat out failed. Looks like it's going to be a tough season if they don't pull it together. Our defense just could not stop the run game and our offensive could not block. Our QB couldn't throw a pass. If we play like this every Friday then it will be another 1 win season. But I think they will bounce back. We have a great coaching staff and these kids want it. Tough loss.

  14. Riverview played solid and make the fewest mistakes of the two. Milan is not the team they were the past few years. I'm not a big believer in Milan giving the game away because of mistakes. This was a 2 day game and there was plenty of time to correct and fix. However day two showed the same penalties and mistake that started from the first snap Friday. The "phantom" hold was legit and the kid was warned numerous times prior to that play by the officials. Better team won today. Next week is a new week though and that's what makes the Huron League fun to watch. You just never know

  15. Riverview had their share of penalties.. but riverview was the more aggressive team. they wanted to win more. Coach Mac could have a great year.

    1. I notice your win total for Airport keeps going up. First you said they would win 1 maybe 2 games, now you say 3 wins. Your win total will keep going up my friend. EM

  16. Meiring and the 0-Line of Airport with another great game. Jefferson is working it out though, should make for some interesting games. WTG Riverview and Huron, some surprises.

  17. Congrats to Riverview, but Milan gave that game away. Turnovers and penalties killed them. Drove down inside the Riverview 20 4 times in the second half. Scored once but called back on a phantom holding call. Stopped view on 3rd down twice on the last drive to force punts but got two unsportsmanlike 15 yarders which sealed the win. Again Congrats to Riverview, but Milan threw that game away.

    1. Whatever yourself. Last time I checked they didn't take away penalties. It's called discipline. And oh yeah, SCOREBOARD.

    2. Exactly it's called discipline and because Milan didn't have any they gave that game away. Without those penalties it would of been a different game.
