Huron League Thoughts and Questions

Is Milan for real or the beneficiary of playing two weak teams?

Is Airport in the drivers seat?

Huron’s Demarcus Bunn had a solid game last night

Is Jefferson headed back to it’s 70’s success?

SMCC looked pretty solid last night.

Sounds like Riverview’s speed kept them in the game last night.

Will Airport win the league with an interim coach?

Grosse Ile is gonna need to throw the ball more.

Flat Rock needs to throw over the middle a little bit.

Who is the most exciting player in the league?

  1. Go ahead, start criticizing MR. 34-0 man.

Seems as though 21-15 isn't quite what your genius predicted…any more D1 insight for me too??

    Train-station has left the building.

    Just sayin'………SITOFN

  2. It sort of is dead other than SITOFN trying to comprehend what all the posts mean. 80% of this blog is me trying to thoroghly explain my opinion on Airport's offense to SITOFN. From here on out 80% of this blog will be me criticizing everything SITOFN posts on here.

    SMCC 34 GI 0

(If GI still had SITOFN's blazing, bulldozing son the score would be SMCC 34 GI 7.)

  3. The subject is really tired. I recall saying drop it 3 days ago but someone kept the topic going because they can't comprehend the topic. So good luck in comprehending future posts SITOFN.

For the record I do not have a kid that plays football. He graduated couple years ago.

  4. Come on people….you seriosly think I was talking about my son??? Maybe I don't have one, maybe several…. it was a hypothetical comment similar to others to illustrate a point about the sillyness of any D1 comments .

It was cheap bait to illustrate my point but yuall took it Hook, Line and Sinker!!

Still looking for diagrams, and my last word on this subject, it's tired.

  5. Any kid with 4.4 speed would get his 30-40 touches a game though. A coach would be crazy not to give him a bulk of the carries (assuming this imaginary kid has size too).

However, there is a talented QB at Airport (NOT saying he's D1, D2, or D3 caliber) with a talented receiver. You would think that any coach (whoever it is) would utilize having the ability to really be a major running and passing threat to any team they play. I'm not saying change the offense either. The offense works. But adding some shotgun/spread no huddle plays would make Airport a dangerous team.

  6. Kids put up gaudy stats all the time and never end up playing D1.

Look at the Freep or Detroit News top 25 players. Many of those guys don't have great stats. They have size and speed or just speed.

  7. Sure it would definately turn some heads and schools would be interested. But they'll also be interested why he only carried 5 times a game and only had 500 yards on the season. Don't think they'll pass up a kid that ran a 4.5 or 4.5 forty that had 2500 yards and 40 TD's on the season for a kid that runs fast.

  8. Actually, any player that runs a straight 4.40 in a combine is going to get a looksey from someone even if they only ran for 500 yards on the season.

Now we hear all the time that so-n-so ran 4.5 or 4.46. Bull! Put them in a combine on a timing system and that number would be closer to 4.6.

A legit 4.4 will flat out turn some heads.

  9. Sorry that you couldn't understand what I was implying with Potcova and Airport's offense SITOFN. I'll have the diagram soon for you!

  10. If a runningback in the Huron League has 5 carries a game for 50 yards and finishes the season with about 500 yards rushing but totally kicks *** at a combine and runs a 4.4 forty does anyone actually think he'll be looked at by D1??? Or D2??? NO!

  11. Are you saying your D1 caliber son should have been playing instead of Kish? I'm gonna take whatever you say on this blog and twist it around and debate with you on something that you're not even talking about.

If your son was D1 caliber why wasn't he noticed at the combines?? Did you take him to combines?? Or are you looking at your son's ability through the good ol' parent goggles??

  12. I'm done going back and forth with you. Obviously what I'm saying isn't sinking in. Airport would be a much more dangerous team if they mixed it up a little. I'm also talking about McCormick-Airport could utilize his talent a lot more too. Lineman these days have blazing 4.6 speed. The coaches were probably more concerned with winning football games over at GI instead of worrying about your kid carrying the football.

  13. Like I said….Keep on a postin' and I'm sure you'll talk the young man into D1 stature.

BTW, my son was D1 caliber too, had the speed (ran 4.6 40), hit like a tank, smart but played on a passing vs running team next to a 3 year starter….so he was never discovered. (can we all agree how stupid that sounds!!)

bn is right, if he's that good D1 will find him….doesn't matter the circumstances of the team, those cats actually do know how to watch tape (and listen to coaches).

    SITOFN

  14. If he has the talent and size he will be discovered at camps and such. It's the coaches job to win games the best he knows how. It is not to showcase a particular talent at the cost of team. Again, if he has D1 potential and ability HE WILL BE DISCOVERED.

    -bn

  15. He's 6'3" maybe 6'4" and weighs about 220. That covers the D1 size.
He has the arm of a D1 QB. Or even if we say he has the arm of a D2 QB he's not getting recruited by either because he's in an offense that restricts him. Throwing the ball 7 times a game will get you a pat on the back. Does this explain why he's not being recruited or do you need a picture drawn out SITOFN??? Maybe a diagram??

  16. 4:17
Lets see here…you state "Potcova has a D1 arm and D1 size". Then you followed up with "never stated or mentioned he is going D1 or recruited by D1"

So using your own words that he is not going to or being recruited by D1, how can you say he has a D1 arm or size???…I'm just sayin'

That Air logic about D logic seems like alot of HOT Air logic, so you might have to keep on a postin'

Note: Sorry to mention a player by name…had to in order to get the "quote" in.

    SITOFN

  17. How many times do I need to post this?? Potcova has a D1 arm and D1 size. It was never stated or mentioned that he is going D1 or being recruited by D1 schools. The topic of discussion about Potcova got brought up only because of the "style" of offense he plays in.

    Try to understand this:
Potcova in Wing T=waste of talent

    Potcova in Spread=multi-dimensional offense

  18. All this D1 talk clearly shows most posters have NO CLUE….so best to stop showing ignorance.

For example, TEEN/KISH/WHITE/CAMERON from GI are all either DII/III or out of football…when some were tossing out the D1 moniker on them too.
(even I thought Teen had a chance)

From a former D1 player, who played with Coach G (another former D1 player), that step to D1 is a <1% chance….especially from the smaller schools in the HL.

NO DISRESPECT to the players, they're great, just not D1 great….nuff said.

    SITOFN

  19. The Howey kid from SMCC went to Eastern Mich.

Nobody ever said he's being recruited by D1. He has D1 size and a D1 arm. That doesn't mean he's going D1. So lets end that subject and move on to something else. Hopefully he's not on here reading people's comments. Him and his team have enough BS to deal with at Airport.

  20. As a college prospect you do not turn down personal invites from any head coach from any college. All these recruiters are networked.
Why was the D1 thing brought up? Just give these guys another week to settle in to their new coaching situation before you continue to bash.

  21. Very few kids from the Huron League will ever make it to D1. I only recall one that made it. Most will end up at the D3 level. Even in the downriver league I only know of one current D1 recriut. Some of you around the Huron League will probably remember more kids that have been recruited. That would be a great list to start. I wonder if anyone has been keeping track of fomer HL players that have made it to the next level?

  22. Pot is NOT a D1 qb. MAYBE a DII but its impossible to tell atm. For anyone that knows anything about HS->College football players there is no need to go on. I think he is a very good QB who is getting wasted by the play calls. He is probably the second best QB in the league and Im pretty sure Mac is a better QB than he is (as you will all see in a few years) There are VERY FEW players in the whole league that can even be considered D1 prospects and only a few more that are D1 "maybes."

  23. He has D1 size and a D1 arm. But will go D3 because Airport offense has restricted him. When he's done at Airport his best statistical year will be his sophomore year.

  24. Potcova far from a D1 prospect at QB. maybe D2 but he was at Bluffton a D3 for a gameday invite on saturday. If you think he is D1 why go to invite at D3.

  25. I know that the Airport QB is a good athelete. I really cannot believe anyone is even mentioning D1. And if you do believe D1 you have never been through the recruiting process. Most likely DIII and maybee looks from a DII if he has a crazy good next two years. Even if recruited may not up playing the qb position. Believe me we have been through the process.

  26. With regards to the hit the QB put on the reciever as a safty, D1 QB's are generally NOT out there as safties in College ball. So whether his hit was D1 worthy or not is not relevant to his being qualified to be a D1 QUARTERBACK!

  27. It's up to the kids to get themselves a scholarship. I don't know a coach around that would change an offense to get a kid a scholarship unless it's there own kid or something. The team is one dimmensional. Adding some spread offense would really add to the "Team". They would go further in the playoffs. If they see a team with speed like Riverview had in the first round they're done unless they add to that slow offense to open it up.

  28. And if that hit that Pot put on that 6-5 receiver as a safety last night wasn't D-1 worthy then what is? These boys are not only pissed about their coach but the critics as well.

  29. Your right Chris. Agree Airport football will never change regardless of the player who shows up. It's just so blatently obvious that if you ran a GI style offense with Potcova's arm it would reap huge benefits. His arm is D1…mobility a D2-D3. But alot of that has to do with the Wing T style that constricts the QB. These kids are devistated about their coach and the circus that is on its way. Lots of tears before and after the game. Air AD and Administration…Get the investigation done and move on quickly.

  30. High school sports should and will probably always be about the team. Airport has won by playing a certain way since Redmond arrived and Barber has played basically the same way. It's about winning league championships not necessarily about getting kids college scholarships.

  31. Potcova has D1 size and probably a D1 arm that has been wasted away by playing at Airport. You're right though Chris-he'll probably go D3. 20 attempts a game for Potcova is wishful thinking at Airport. Now 20 QB sneaks a game is more likely to happen. The kid has great size, good speed, and runs over just about anyone in his way. Chris, if you were his coach with McCormick at receiver and the backs they have wouldn't you want to tweak the offense and maybe run some shotgun spread with those kids? What do you think? I know you saw White run it last year at GI. I've never seen the spread at high school level in person. That's why I'm wondering what you think.

  32. Perhaps "weak" was an overstatement regarding Huron. Truthfully no one knows where there really at this early in the season. But Huron has been a "historically" weak team that most on the Huron league schedule almost always counted on as a win. Apologies to current Huron boys for the slight.

    For Poster 9/1/12 4:41;
You're right, every QB has inaccurate passes. But if they only throw 7 times, a D-1 QB should be able to at least hit the open man 2/3 of those. He didn't. I'm not trying to critisize the young man. But he really didn't look like D-1 to me.

  33. No offense to anyone but I'm pretty sure Potcova isn't a DI QB. Rivals didn't have him rated. Scout.com doesn't have him in the database neither does ESPN.

That's okay, he is a solid QB that will most likely play NAIA or DIII ball.

  34. Every QB will have some inaccurate passes every game. Imagine the numbers Potcova would put up if he had 20 attempts per game. And if he was involved in a real offense.

He was a D1 prospect before the season started. Probably not even on the radar now.

  35. Airport IS in the drivers seat. I don't see them losing two games this year.

Don't know anything about Bunn or Jefferson in the 70's.

SMCC may be the one who has benefited from two weak teams to start the season. Although historically they have earned the benefit of the doubt.

Was at the Airport/Riverview game. Just as expected, Airport ran to keep ball control with a few passes thrown in. However, while they had some success throwing the ball, I was disappointed because Riverview's pass coverage was almost non-existent and while Airport QB connected on a couple of impressive passes I saw him consistently overthrew open recievers. I actually like him and think he is probably the most exciting player in the league (to answer your last question). But that was disappointing. It didn't seem like he was being pressured all that much to be so inacurate. Maybe it was just an off night.

The View's backs made hay on the outside. They only gained 1-2 yards a shot running up the middle. Clearly they need to get them outside more so they can utilize their speed. Riverview's recievers got hit in the hands and they had a lot of drops. Their QB was fairly accurate but the guys kept dropping the ball. I counted at least 5-6 drops that if half are caught the game turns out different.

Riverview had 2 possessions inside of 4 mins. left in the game. They had their chance(s). They're a young team. They are learning to finish as young teams will do. Frankly, I was impressed that they handled the Airport team as well as they did. Most everyone had them losing to the Jets by at least 2 touchdowns. If there is such a thing as a good loss, I think this would be one. They learned they can play with a good experienced team. If they keep working hard, show up and play the whole game and minimize the mistakes, I believe they learned they can be a playoff team.

Sounds like GI hasn't thrown because they don't need too. Although I agree they should so it's not so foriegn to them when they DO need too.

FR will get better as the season goes on. First year Head coach learning to trust his calls, staff and team. They'll figure it out.

  36. I don't think Airport is in the drivers seat quite yet. Riverview definately moved the ball on them. Hopefully the playcalling at Airport improves drastically or they will be in trouble.

With that being said I was very impressed with 21 from Riverview. The kid flat out flys!! Fun to watch.

I think Potcova and McCormick would also be fun to watch if the coaches would turn them loose. A D1 prospect at QB throws 7 times???
