Huron League Thoughts and Questions

Milan being 3-0 is the biggest surprise of the season. They have a very nice team and seem to be well coached. Boy was I wrong on that one.

Flat Rock is 0-3 but their opponents (Ida, GI and Airport) are 9-0.

Jefferson 51 Riverview 41 Are you freaking kidding me?

I think Grosse Ile is for real.

When is SMCC QB Michael Wilson coming back?

Huron didn’t look very good Friday. I hope they get better.

How does Airport only score 14 points on the Alma Mater?

On second thought, the biggest surprise of the season was the Huron League AD’s allowing Milan to drop their JV schedule. They should have refused to play their freshmen team and force them to play a JV schedule. The freshmen players could have moved up and played in the JV games.

Should I head down and see the Milan/GI game next Friday? Maybe not after my last comment. Oh well truth hurts.

Impressive win by Michigan over Air Force and their high school offense!

Rich Rod’s Arizona team beat #18 Oklahoma State 59-38 to move to 2-0 on the season.

  1. It sounds like Chris read the John Bacon book three and out, I read the book as well. I am more sympathetic to Rich Rod than I was before, he had no support.

  2. Just get the Kroger card and try it. There's also a Kroger website to actually get coupons added right to your Kroger card. Its simple. You'll love me for it even though you don't know me. Lol!

  3. There's no way I can be happy with Michigan right now??? That's just dumb to say. They went 11-2 last year under a first year coach when they were predicted to win 6 or 7 games. And now that they got stomped by Alabama which shouldn't be a suprise to anyone and they played bad last week I'm suppose to be distraught about how things are going at Michigan??? Come on dude!!! And even if they only win 7 games I'll be happy with it because at least I know they're on track in the next couple years.

  4. I'll have to look at the Kroger comparison We compared Meijer/Kroger a few years back. Maybe the gas thing makes sense.

Gardner will never play QB at Michigan. He is done. I don't think he even takes snaps anymore. I thought they were going to come out with Gardner at QB and use Robinson to run the Wildcat against Bama but obviously that didn't happen.

  5. Chris, some good advice for you. We've shopped at Meijer for years (4 kids and groceries are pricey). Recently started shopping at Kroger. It's amazing how much money you'll save! And you get money off each gallon of gas. Basically spend $150 a week on groceries and it'll get you like 25 cents off each gallon. We use to spend about $200 a week at Meijer. Now it's $140 a week at Kroger.

  6. We'll see the difference between the 2 coaches in couple years. Give Hoke a couple years. Right now Hoke is a good coach-great recruiter. You're right on not being a great coach (yet-but I do think he'll get there). I think 10-3 this year, maybe 11-2. They'll get their act together. As for next year I'm hoping to see what Devon Gardner can do if they put him at QB. I like the kids arm. A big waste of talent at Michigan being behind Robinson.

I know this may be crazy to think but what if they would've put Gardner at QB and Robinson at slot receiver?? Just a thought.

Now as much as I hate to admit this I do think State will probably win again this year. Their defense is too good. Plus they have a psycho at linebacker!

  7. I don't shop there! I'm a Meijer guy.

I have a question now. Do you really think Hoke is a great coach? I'll give you great recruiter but I think that could just be the the Michigan marketing machine. (everyone on the same page supporting the coach unlike when Rich Rod was there)

You said you think they have a good team. How many wins?

You also said that they are a year away. They will miss Denard's feet big time next season. Wouldn't you agree? I would say two full seasons. Fall of 2014 should be a very good year.

You don't think Hoke is a better caoch than Dantonio do you?

  8. I'm happy with the Michigan program right now. Here's the couple reasons why. For one-they are still a good team this year (who knows how good). But I'm happy with last year and this year. Two-they are a year away from being the powerhouse they once were with Hoke's system. Great coach doing great recruiting. State will be left in the dust and that's why there are all these bitter feelings with State fans. So to Chris, soon enough you will be talking away to your State buddies at Walmart! Michigan fans will be at Target shopping!

  9. So are you happy with where the program is right now? You know the "cute" program. Or are you pissed after the blowout to Alabama and the less than stellar defensive effort against Air Force?

  10. It seems like it. Probably my two comments at the end of thoughts and questions this week.

It's all in good fun though, I would rather chat with a Michigan fan on here than at Walmart.;)

  11. And 29.5 the very next year with Tate. And 32.7 with Denard in 2010. In today's college game 20 ppg is anemic.
    I think you know that.

  12. The league AD's did not agree on Milan dropping JV. Milan dropped JV because it states in the league by laws that they can drop any program. The AD's were against it but they did it anyways. DROP THEM.

  13. Offense wasn't the problem at Michigan when RR was there. So Ryan Mallett leaving is a moot point.

State won a big ten championship two years ago. I believe that is meaningful. (be careful calling it a co-championship).

We live in a what have you done for me lately society. Most kids stay in school for 4 or 5 years so it is only logical to look at those years. The last 4 plus this one.

If your happy with the team you put on the field last year and this year then Michigan will be a cute program. If your still pissed and see Michigan for what they are right now then maybe you get it.

They are probably a year or so away from really being the program Michigan fans want.

  14. I'm really looking forward to the idiots who talk about the last 4 years of MSU football like they are the glory years (But really haven't won anything meaningful) but totally ignore the last 100 years because they didn't win as much.

  15. I'm pretty sure the QB transferring to ARK because of RR had nothing to do with MICH falling so hard that first year. RR's dumb a** tried to run the spread option with slowest QB'S ever. He couldn't adapt with what he had, not even the least bit. He should have went more pro style offense until he got his guy in there at QB. Denard or whoever. He came on there like a bull in a china shop and that cost him. He has proven he can win at WV and I'm sure will win a bit at AZ. He just came in at a bad time at MICH and he didn't do much to help himself in my book.

  16. Last year st. had a nice team. This year the QB really needs to improve game by game. I can see them going .500 the rest of the way.

  17. Because somehow Rich Rod forgot how to coach when he got to Michigan? Never mind that Lloyd Carr got out at the right time with the cupboard bare.

Michigan won 15 games over those 3 years you referenced. I don't believe our lady of perpetual help was one of the victories.

  18. Yea! I'm really looking forward to the idiots who talk about a 100 years of Michigan football but totally ignore the last four years against State.

  19. State got beat by Alabama 49-7 in the Bowl game two years ago. I believe I objectively said Bama would win that game 42-10 so I was off a little bit. My bad!

That cupcake State beat was a team that was 72-6 over the last 7 seasons and was a ranked opponent that will most likely go 10-2 or 11-1 this season.

I think your right that we don't know about Michigan until the B1G schedule but I think we can say that about anyone at this point. Let's see how Bama does in the SEC too!

  20. We won't really know anything about Michigan until they open big ten schedule. Opening against Alabama was a bit too much for them as it would be for any big ten team. Didn't state play Alabama in a bowl game and get stomped??

Chris, you didn't say much about State barely beating a cupcake in week 1. You should work on your blog decorum since you should have a biased opinion on this website. Lol!

  21. Link for Air Force picked #92 in the country and 6th in the Mountain West.: http://www.athlonsports.com/college-football/top-25/air-force-2012

Sorry I wasn't being truthful there. I said 5th not 6th. Maybe Athlon doesn't know anything. They had Michigan picked 7th.

National Championships were won running the single wing too! Doesn't mean it isn't outdated at the college level and now just a high school offense.

Fact is, Michigan beat the worst Air Force team in a decade by 6 points at home.

Well Chris, that is a tough offense to prepare for! Unless your Brady Hoke who had to prepare for it regularly at SDSU

I think the only think I edited on the thoughts and questions was the spelling of Wilson's name.

  22. National championships were won with the triple option. The spread option is the modern day triple option. Same theory and principles

  23. You call them cheap shots at the Blue. I call them the truth.

Rich Rod beat a ranked team in Oklahoma State while Michigan slid by a team picked to finish 5th in the Mountain West that also happens to run a high school offense.

Am I above telling the truth? I don't think that is possible.;)

  24. Agreed. As freshman, a couple years ago, our kids had just 7 games because of other schools dropping frosh teams due to low numbers…a real bummer.

But in this situation, like you said, it was the league ADs who decided this was ok. They are the ones to take issue with, not the school who made the request.

Perhaps they should just state that our league will be Varsity and JV?

About pulling up kids…it is the athletes who lose out…it will either be lots of freshman sitting on the JV bench, or lots of sophs sitting on the varsity bench. I don't think that decision serves any schools best interests.

  25. Chris did you edit your Thoughts and questions?? lol. Should be thoughts, questions and provocations. Always the cheap shots at blue. U r above that. Forum decor

  26. Michigan is a destination program and msu is a stepping stone program as far as coaches go. Untill that changes all the sparties will hate. Most root for mich to lose more than msu to win. Lil brother no matter what happens.

  27. The league by laws say that you don't have to drop the lowest level but they also don't say that sophomores can't play Freshman. So if a JV team doesn't find a game they could move their JV team down. If they want to do find loop holes so can everyone else.

    1. Not a good idea!! Y do u want to bring down a Jv kid to play a smaller kid. U want him to have to work day in and day out. That's how u get better in any sport.

  28. GI has not had a freshman team and have just run JV and Varsity teams for years – in the long run it has not hurt either team and look how far they have come. Milan will find that this choice may hurt them in the long run. I wish that we could step our JV team back to Freshman to play them this next week.

  29. Playing as a freshmen on a jv team can only benefit your program in the long run. Learn when to man up and when to sit down.

  30. I'm sure I came off harsh and maybe that was my intention. I understand why Milan dropped JV. I just think it was selfish and self serving. They could have had a JV team with the sophomores they had and the freshmen players.

  31. why is their this idea that flat rock is "toughest team in the league", yes, i agree they are small, but year in and year out the lose most of their games…i dont know, mybe im missing something.

  32. You are right Chris. What stops FR and GI when they have lean Sophomore numbers from saying. We are not playing JV this year but we will play your freshman. They don't do it and I am sure that there are years that it would benefit them. Milan is one of the biggest schools in the league. FR and GI are two of the smallest and they man up.

  33. The decision to drop JV effects everyone in the league not just Milan. That is part of being in a league. GI and FR don't have freshmen teams so the 9th graders move up to JV. Each team in the league was given a hole in their schedule just prior to the season starting because Milan did what was best for them. Some schools were able to find a game others weren't. So because Milan does what is best for them kids from other schools play less games. That makes no sense.

How about this scenario. Milan will have a great team this year in varsity hoops. How about at the last minute teams around the league decide that it's best for their team not to play you. We might get someone hurt. Sorry, we're doing whats best for us. Just go find another game. The interesting thing is Milan could probably find games in basketball because so many teams have holes in their schedule. That scenario sounds silly doesn't it? So does dropping JV football because you don't have enough sophomores, move your freshmen up like GI and FR do.

  34. The Milan-GI game is definitely the one to watch next week. Perfect records are at stake. Milan has there reasons for dropping the JV team. The freshmen team looks great. Nobody should be forced to do anything. Let the coaches make the decisions on what is best for their team. I'm sure this decision wasn't made lightly.
