Grosse Ile @ Robichaud

Grosse Ile (9-1) is coming off of a 14-12 playoff victory over Chandler Park while Dearborn Heights Robichaud (9-1) defeated St. Clair Shores South Lake 41-6. Grosse Ile and Robichaud last met back in 2001 with the Islanders winning 31-6.

Robichaud, the champions of the Western Wayne Athletic Conference Red Division are led by senior QB Chris Davis. Davis has thrown for nearly 1,600 yards and 20 TD’s this season. His main targets are  seniors Darius Phillips and Torin Anderson. Leading the ground attack for the Bulldogs is 900 yard rusher Cedric Patterson.

Defensively, the Bulldogs are led by the monstrous Marquis Clayton at DT. Robichaud boast a strong LB corp with Devonta Walker,  Jaisaun Simpkins and William Melchor. The Bulldogs give up a meager 12.5 ppg and their lone loss came at the hands of state football power Dearborn Fordson in week 8.

Grosse Ile is led by QB Andrew Mitroka. The sophomore runs the Red Devil spread attack efficiently and has thrown for 9 TD’s against only 1 INT while rushing for 806 yards. Grosse Ile has two equally effective RB’s in Brian Christen and Jordan Nellenbach.

On the defensive side of the ball Grosse Ile looks to Chris Trombley. The senior DT is one of the best players in the Huron League. Senior Keeton Ross is a rugged LB while junior DB Dan McCarty leads the Red Devils in tackles. Last week McCarty teamed with Nellenbach to shut down Chandler Park superstar and Michigan bound Csonte’ York.

This should be an entertaining game and it could certainly go either way. Field conditions should be perfect as this game will be played on the beautiful turf field at Romulus Middle School. Pick: Grosse Ile 27 Robichaud 22

  1. BN….to say GI doesn't have any great victories is irresponsible. A quality you typically don't exhibit!!

Lest you forget about playoff victory #1???? CP WAS THE REAL DEAL….I'll bet they mop up ALL HL foes including MILAN. Trust me, CP was better than DHR who GI just rolled.

    Wheres the faith old friend?

  2. I like GI's style of play. They spread you out to run up the middle with some fast guys who can bust one.

I think GI will be in the game but when I compare schedules and victories. Robichaud has one great victory(Dearborn) and GI doesnt have any. Unless you count the cc come from behind win or last weeks playoff win…. which I really dont.

This is why I give the edge to Robichaud.

  3. Bloddy Nutter, GI was able to shut down Csonte' York who is a better player than Darius Philips . It will be a good matchup but I still see Grosse Ile with a win. GI D will win the game for the islanders.

R4-D2: Grosse Ile (9-1) at Dearborn Heights Robichaud (9-1) at Romulus MS

    Kickoff: Friday, 7 p.m.

    The Lowdown:

Key Matchup: Grosse Ile secondary vs. Robichaud WR Darius Philips. Philips has such big play ability and averages 25.85 yards per catch. He’s the reason why Robichaud’s offense has been so dynamic and successful. He is priority No. 1.

Prediction: Robichaud finds a way to stop the brutal rushing attack that Grosse Ile offers and comes away with a nice victory. Robichaud 35, Grosse Ile 14.

  5. Not as sure about calling them the State Champs yet but I think the winner of this game has the best shot to play against the beast I mean best from the west at Ford Field. I think both have a valid and solid shot to beat em but Im not as confident to call em state champs as I am to say the winner of this game SHOULD go to Ford Field.

  6. The Devils keep on coming the whole game. As long as they keep the o on the field a little longer than the last game I see a win. The D will need a break even though they are playing very well.
