  1. It will be hard to three peat, but Milan has the coaching to do it. They have soundly out coached everyone in the this league over the last two years. 14 straight wins is evidence of that. I wasn't sold until they did it this year with no size and 25 guys on the team. The numbers will be low again, but I wouldn't pick against them until they play Country Day.

New Boston is scary because they will have the most talent in the league, but again won't know what to do with it and go 5-4, 4-5. Not sure who said SMCC is returning 21 of 22 starters, because that is not true. Just watched six starters from last year's team compete in the All-Star game. Very good players. They will be very good and well coached like they always are.

Grosse Ile will have a ton of talent, but will they be able to stay healthy. And that has more to do then just the quarterback. Their numbers are very low.

Should be a very competitive year and a lot of fun to watch. Depth will be a huge concern along with who can stay healthy for the whole year.

  2. Milan isn't 3 peating. In the last decade Airport and CC have had better teams than Milan, and they failed to 3 peat. Milan will be competive, they just don't have enough talent to win the league unless your sophmore RB turns into Ron Spears this year.

    1. You never know what the sophomore will be. He is faster, stronger, bigger, and he just might have something to prove.

  3. Its quiet on the blog. Its the summer season with 7 on 7s yea stay quiet cause talk is cheap. Once again we love the predictions esp that third spot. Put those big reds a lil lower they thrive off of that. I said it since last year as long as staff stay there Milan will win. 3peat you haters…oh for all you school of choice non supporters everyone in Milan uniforms plays for Milan. Good luck in your seasons the clock is winding down crrcrrack

  4. You know what, when Hoskins took over a ton of kids quit because of how hard the offseason workouts and practices were. That's fine with me; I'd rather have 25 FOOTBALL PLAYERS like last year than 50 kids who just came out for the heck of it.

    1. I believe a 'Good' leader and mentor finds a way to reach the youth. As a coach its about more than football. You should care about the kids and not just about being successful on field. Give me 50 on any team and we'll make noise.

  5. Since the 2004 season, Riverview is 10-26 vs Air, CC, GI and Milan. 3 of those teams project to be better than Riverview this year including Huron as well.

Riverview has a lot to overcome to win the league. To make the playoffs, however is much more attainable. They have 2 cupcakes scheduled for non league games. They will have to find a way to beat 1 of the top 4 teams as well as Airport to get to 6.. it can be done.

  6. Why is everyone down on Riverview? Didn't they have a great JV team? I am not saying that translates into winning the league, but shouldn't they compete for a playoff spot?

  7. I believe the game is in Tecumseh.

We played there back in ohhh '88 or so, we were told it was going to be a flagfest against us… and boy was it. It will be hard to get a victory for the private school in good ole Tecumseh.

  8. Tecumseh is a very good/well coached football team that has been turned around since coach romano took over. SMCC will have a very hard time with them. I would not bet against Tecumseh.

  9. It's so hard to listen to all these illiterate idiots who can't form complete sentences and cry about the coaching because their kids don't play. Numbers are down in programs across the state, not just Milan. The fact is that kids are held accountable at Milan and are required to work hard if they want to be a part of the program.

  10. Riverview will be dead last. No smith or samuels? They were 95 percent of the offense besides a few TD catches by a junior reciever

  11. I never said anyone cuts anyone in the real sense of the word. Sheesh. Lighten up Francis. Others on here did though.

  12. Here is my way-too-early thoughts.

    1. SMCC- Coach Giarmo continues to keep the tradition alive but they must find a way to beat Milan.

    2. Grosse Ile- If Mitroka is 100% they battle the Falcons for the HL title. I honestly don't know much about them besides that.

    3. Milan- Does Milan not having a JV team hurt them? Coach Hoskins has done a great job so far.

4/5. Huron- Huron battles with Airport for the 4/5 spot. Very talented QB from what I hear. I don't see them beating GI, Milan, or SMCC. Is this the last hurrah for Coach Kalby?

4/5. Airport- Same as above..I don't see Airport beating SMCC, GI, or Milan. Huron is their next most competitive game. It will be interesting to see how Coach Baas shapes his program, could they slip to a Flat Rock or Riverview?

    6. Riverview- The Bucs always have talent but haven't put it together in a long time. Can a new coach finally be the answer?

    7. Flat Rock- The Rams were very young last year. I see them beating Jefferson and maybe 1-2 other league teams if they stay healthy.

    8. Jefferson- Will always have tough hard nosed kids. Sadly, this once proud program will continue to slip in my opinion.

  13. Its apparent now for sure BN yu have no idea about what your talking about! For three days now you losers have been talking about who cuts players in high school football. Go outside its spring!!!

  14. You "cut" players by making freshman football a rather difficult experience, thus weeding out those who are not all in.

    -bn

  15. There is not one team in the state that I have ever heard cutting from football. I challenge anyone to find a program that does. Does not happen in Plymouth.

  16. My older brother lives in Converse Texas. They have Judson High School which is a top 10 5A football program. They don't even cut! They have 350 players in the program. They have a varsity team, two sub-varsity (JV) and two freshmen teams.

  17. What does cutting players have to do with how good of a team you are? The best players still play.

    1. Tecumseh isnt that good. They need all the players they can get. What they won one league title all time.

  18. I can't believe your sleeping on Airport Chris. On paper they have the most talent in the league, not counting CC. Just look at the JV scores from 2 years ago. I know you can't completely go by JV, but the way they steamrolled everybody (minus CC) has to count for something. Baas will prove his worth this year.

  19. I truly believe if Huron just lines it up and runs right at people out of a simple base formation, they will very hard to beat. If they try to get all tricky, then who knows.

If they would run something like what Riverview ran last year… simple I formation stuff, I love Huron's chances.

  20. "As a GI parent I can tell you we take Huron seriously. They are talented and only getting better. Whoever thinks they are not a threat, aren't paying attention."

nice GI parent… I couldnt agree more. 6-3 is VERY doable.

I see 5 darn good teams in the league this year and that does not include Airport who could be pretty good.

Tough games are ahead for all and the wins will be earned.

  21. As a GI parent I can tell you we take Huron seriously. They are talented and only getting better. Whoever thinks they are not a threat, aren't paying attention.

  22. I don't think Huron is a stretch at 4-3 and 6-3 overall. The non-league games and FR are cupcake city. So Huron has to figure out a way to beat Jeffersona and Airport which they did last season. Then they need one win over the four remaining on the schedule. That will most likely be over Riverview or possibly Milan. Huron had a 6-3 JV team and return approximately 6 or 7 starters on both sides of the ball from a team that finished 5-4. It is important that the coaching staff doesn't lose any of the games that they should win.

  23. That might be the dumbest post I've ever read on here and there have been some great ones. All kids have the ability to play football regardless of their financial situation. Any student with this sort of issue is taken care of just like most other schools I'm guessing.

    1. I guess when a school like Tecumseh cuts players and comes into your house and not only beat your team on the field they put more people in the seats and the school are about the same amount of students and you only have 25 players there just might be a problem

  24. BN- you're really drinking the Huron Kool aid..I won't believe it until I see it. Too much has to happen in order for them to have success. Their early season schedule is going to be rough and they've lost before with loads of talent. GI is loaded too in my opinion. They should have a good Defense.

  25. People talking up Huron is completely new. You maybe forget how bad their history is, football wise.

People like to crack on Huron but smart money is on Huron making some noise.

  26. Been hearing on this site about how good Huron is going to be every year. Always a disappointment and I see nothing different next year.

  27. Not having the J.V. did not hurt Milan last year and won't this year. The fact is that they only had 8 sophomores in that class and two were already on Varsity. What hurts Milan is that kids are simply not playing Football. The single sport Basketball and Baseball kids are killing their numbers. That along with kids not willing to put in the work to be part of the program.

For a school with 800 kids to have 25 kids on a Football team is pretty sad. But, they are developing average players such as Hall, Smith, Blackburn etc. And this is allowing them to compete and still be competitive in the conference. This however will not cut it against bigger and better teams in the playoffs.

I believe the same was said about Milan last year. They lost too much. A one year fluke. The fact is……Milan was a very average Football team last year. And still beat everyone in the league.

    14 and Counting

    1. Is not the head coach a teacher.I know Milan is a school of choice but what choice do the kids have when there parents can't afford to pay.it starts with the youth programs there is alot of kids that want to play and are good enough to play but there parents can't afford to pay so thats why you only get 25 players if the head coach would just look in his own school he could see that there is alot of kids that would make great football players

    2. You idiots they had a jv last year no freshman and year before last they had no jv but a freshman. 3peat..

    3. Milan should have a two sport minimum. Idk why their football players dont play and if Hoskins not making the sport fun; shame on him and the program.

  28. I wouldn't be surprised if Huron upsets GI at Huron. GI has to ask, "can they stop their own offense". Also, Huron's QB won't be overthrowing 4 Ints to GI this season (that experiement is over). They may not even throw that many passes all season. Hartwick is a mirror image of Mitroka, somewhat smaller, a tad quicker.

  29. Milan will need to find some linemen if they plan on winning the league. They will have speed at the skill positions, but what about the big guys?

  30. The big concern with Milan is that these seniors didn't have a JV team as sophomores. Many players get valuable playing time on a JV team. That helps you builf depth and confidence. I understand that MIlan has some very good juniors and some seniors that have contributed for two seasons on varsity.

SMCC and GI are both going to be significantly better than last season. GI will definitely depend on Mitroka being fully healed. SMCC will be dynamite. I think Milan would need to be improved over last season to win the league or even be second. I just don't see that happening with the loss of guys like Kanitz, Hoover, Smith, Blackburn, Hall, and Friese.

  31. Huron will start 1-3. Mark it down. They will not beat GI, SMCC, or Milan.

This is not due to lack of talent as they will have the most in the league yet again.

  32. I would not pick against Milan until they lose a game in the conference. They ran the table with 25 kids on the team last season. Replacing Hoover and Kanitz will be hard, but everyone in the league lost good players and has to have new kids step up. If they can get some more kids out and get there numbers up , they will be hard to beat for the 3rd year in a row.

Who can stay healthy will play a big role with all the teams as it did last year.

    Milan Fan

  33. If your right about Airport, that could be the end for Baas. Airport has too much talent to only win 3 games. EM

  34. I guess you have SMCC losing to the Indians? Should be a good one. I think SMCC goes 6-1 in league play.

GI, only if Mitroka is fully recovered will hold this spot down.

What is Hoskins made of? This year will tell. Can he win without probably the best team? I know the cupboard isnt bear whatsoever at Milan but I dont think this squad is as good as his last 2, despite the transers.

Huron beats either SMCC, GI or Milan. Write it down. If not, things need to change over there.

Riverview, as every year, is the real wildcard. 7-2 or 4-5 who knows?

Airport could surprise but I just cant see them making the playoffs. 5-4 at best.

Jefferson will play CC tough but thats about it. Can they beat Ida? If not, look for a LONG season.

Flat Rock will give up 400 points to the Huron league foes.
