Huron League Thoughts and Questions

SMCC wins by 3 TD’s again.

Hats off to Huron’s defensive coordinator,

Nice comeback by Grosse Ile

Congrats to Jefferson for getting their first win of the season.

Sometimes you need to throw the ball.

Riverview’s Drew Kroll looked like Houdini at times in the 4th quarter Friday.

Ever here a coach say, play until the whistle blows?

I’m still hoping the Rams can get a win.

I know it is a long way off, but I hope SMCC gets a shot at Ithaca.

Is Huron actually in line to host a playoff game?

Grosse Ile still has a shot at the playoffs.

I can’t believe how often Jefferson throws the ball.

Can Airport get Three more wins?

When you dress 45 players for a JV game, you should have a freshmen team.

Milan should be really good next season.

Riverview has the best student section that I have seen in a while.

  1. I really do not think it matters. I do not call it view when talking but in a blog setting I will because it is shorter. No one says CC or Bucs. No, they say CC or View.

  2. I really do not think it matters. I do not call it view when talking but in a blog setting I will because it is shorter. No one says CC or Bucs. No, they say CC or View.

  3. Lol I knew the 3 people from Riverview who call it View would shout out. The rest of the 10000 people who don't call it that won't say anything.

  4. Jefferson does have some weaknesses and sure they have been exposed with the losses we have had.

Huron may or may not have as many, but the ones they do have, we will focus on.

Every team has weaknesses, that's why we play the game, you never know who will win somedays. No matter, you always have to go into the game thinking you can.

    See you Friday.

  5. We are MSMCC or Monroe St. Mary to those out of the Huron league area.

Statewide, CC is saved for Detroit catholic Central.

  6. The View is just easier. CC is for those of us that remember when they were just Catholic Central. Flat Rock is just FR and Grosse Ile is GI. Milan and Huron are short enough and well, Jefferson is just Jefferson.

  7. Just a random observation. Pretty much nobody from Riverview calls us View. But it is used in this forum a lot. Which makes sense because it's quick to type and pretty obvious who you're talking about.

Which makes me wonder if this is true for any other schools. Do people from SMCC call themselves CC like everyone else does? How come nobody calls Flat Rock just Rock?

    1. This is ridiculous. I graduated from riverview in the last couple of years and I call it the view all the time, on this blog and in just normal conversation. And try to keep it related to the purpose of this blog please.. Huron League Football.

    2. The title of this blog is Huron League Thoughts and Questions . What's ridiculous is how you think asking a question about what people call a team from the league isn't related to the Huron League. Smh

    3. Nobody called Detroit The D until after about 2000. Before that is was just Detroit , or the Motor City, or Motown. You can tell a suburbanite from a Detroit resident by their use of the term "The D".

  8. LOL if SMCC exposed some weaknesses against Huron, I can only imagine what weakness Ida, Airport, Milan, and View exposed of Jefferson..

Huron will change their offense and defense as they need to. If Jefferson can't run the ball, and can only pass, well, expect man to man on all receivers, and the defensive line to pressure your QB all game. See you Bears friday 😉

  9. "Class A= D1 & D2
    Class B= D3 & D4
    Class C= D5 & D6
    Class D= D7 & D8

    Loyola is Class C"

    That's not how it works.
Division isn't decided until all 9 regular season games are played. You take the 256 teams that make the playoffs then then make 8, 32 team divisions. Loyola with its enrolment will clearly be in D7 going by history.

There are Class A teams in D3 and D5 is almost all Class B.

In short, Class and division have nothing to do with each other.

  10. Correction Huron 24 Riverview 20 and Huron had a very difficult time stop the pass in the second half when Riverview started slinging it around..if they can't stop the pass Jefferson could have a chance..

  11. It is all about match-ups. That's why we have upsets. If Jefferson matches up well you never know. Huron's best defensive lineman has a broken hand, that could effect the rush some, but they do have a lot of other good players.

Huron spreads the defense out and runs it. Tough to load the box. We will see what Jefferson does.

SMCC exposed a some Huron weaknesses, Jefferson will focus on those same weaknesses.

    GO BEARS

  12. In those games the defense held its own in the 1st half. The Offense was still struggling and D ran out of gas. If the Offense can keep improving and move the ball well see. Don't Realistically see a upset but keep it within a couple scores you never know

  13. Jefferson:
    0-34 vs. Milan
    6-37 vs. Riverview

    Huron:
    28-14 vs. Milan
    34-20 vs. Riverview

Now, if you're telling me a team that beat both team you lost greatly too, suddenly can't or won't beat you, because you have a "throwing game"; well, I'd say pass the drugs because I want them also… Because Milan and Riverview stopped that passing game, and Huron stopped them. lol

I don't possibly see a Defense being "improved" since beating a team who many agreed will be in the bottom of the league and not contending… That's not really an accomplishment at all if that is what you're referring to.

An accomplishment would've been beating Airport, Milan, or Riverview. Not Flat Rock.. But to each their own. Friday night lights show and tell all! 🙂

  14. How come Jefferson is gonna get real good all of a sudden? They lost to Riverview 36-7! And riverview lost to huron! It's all about match ups. And if Jefferson had a good reviving core, how come I haven't heard them make any noise in the league

  15. If Airport wins this week i still think they will make the playoffs. Huron will be tough but i think they can beat Milan & Tecumseh. Yeah it looks like if Huron wins out they will host a playoff game. Who woulda ever thought? Kalbfleisch has done one heck of a job. EM

  16. The Bears can throw the ball!!!! They have the reciever depth to go in many different directions and many different sets. If the line can sustain the defense and keep the QB from throwing on the run they can certainly suprise some teams.

    1. Jefferson defense is improved offense is not one dimensional Huron has only faced .offense who can't throw you must defense all aspects of Jefferson offense bears. 30- 22 win

  17. Detroit Loyola will stomp everybody. They are a talented team. Wouldn't worry about Ithaca.

Wouldn't worry about anything past Milan for that matter.

Too much credit and looking too far ahead again. A hook and ladder can ruin anybodies season. Last years team was better than this one. League competition was better than this years.

There are people on here that do basic math??

  18. LOL!!! Did we suddenly welcome 2 more teams to the Huron League? haha he was 1 for 3 buddy. He called CC. But………

Huron's defense is looking much improved since they took the field against CC. Aggressive linemen, keeping their heads up, going towards the ball, paying attention to the offense's receivers.. All good improvements. Keep up the good work fellas.

Congrats GI! I read Double OT and my jaw dropped. lol keep pushing, you guys are almost there.

Chris, best student section?? Come on! Have you never saw the Huron student section during homecoming? Its packed ass to elbows and take 2-3 sections of bleachers at times lol

  19. Nice comeback by Grosse Ile. That just doesn't do that game justice. It was unbelievable, Milan still doesn't know what happened.

  20. I see an undeated season for SMCC. Their hardest competition will be Lancing Catholic Central in the last game of the season.

I also hope they can face Ithaca at some point. I honestly think they can pull through and upset the team with the largest winning streak in the country. I mean, I really don't see a better D6 team capable of doing it this year. Plus CC will be out for revenge because of their 35-45 loss to Ithaca in the 2010 State Finals.

    -NPG

  21. Will kindly ask the blog owner to not talk about games that are 9 games away. The next opponent is the only opponent anyone should thinking about. Plus they may not even be in the same division as Ithaca. Thank you 🙂

Yes CC won by 3 scores but it was a tough contest. Airport belonged, no doubt. The game this week vs GI means everything for both teams as far as making the playoffs. If GI wins they are all but a lock to get to 6 wins. If Airport wins they still have very tough games ahead. If Airport gets to 6 they will have earned it. I just don't see it however.
