Such a humble kid. For being the second best RB in the state he wasn't cocky by any means. MSU definitely got a great athlete in him.

Absolutely an insane individual performance. I kinda felt bad for him. Yes he was on a great team with a good coach and line, but that's tough on the kid. Sundays may be a stretch, but I think Saturdays is a safe bet. The kid had great vision, size, and speed. Special player.

That mlive article annoyed me as well. If you listened to the commentator on mhsaa.tv, it was so biased I had to mute it for a while.

    Other things
That 4th and 7 play by Windham in the fourth is probably the most exciting play from SMCC I've seen… right up there with the run by Simon against Bishop Foley in 2008 to win a Regional Title.

That fumble at the end of the game was Khari Willis' first lost turnover in his career. To rush the ball that many times and never fumble to the other team is INSANE. Feel bad that the last carry of the kid's career was his first fumble…and of that magnitude. Gotta feel for him.

I heard Howey might be back for SMCC next week.

you guys are idiots. ill be in the stands laughing at the look of depression when JLC walks off with that regional championship

I wonder if this dork showed up to see our "look of depression"?

    GO FALCONS!!

  3. I read the MLive articles about this game today and was disappointed to read that an unknown source said there was an illegal man downfield penalty that wasn't called on the 4th and 7 broken play that resulted in CC's final touchdown. I wonder if they saw the pass interference that wasn't called against JLC along with all of the questionable ball placements that resulted in many 1st downs for the Titans? Anyway, probably the most exciting football game this year, if not ever.

  4. 421 yards on 51 carries we witnessed the greatest individual effort in decades. If this kid stays healthy we will see him playing on Sunday's. However no individual can beat a team effort. This CC team is reminiscent of the 1991 team that won the class B title. No super stars but a great team that went through injuries and still got the job done.

  5. Not only was Willis a monster on the field, he was a class act to watch and then hear from after the game. Congrats to him, his parents, family and coaches… looking forward to his success at MSU.

  6. Those lineman for JLC were creating some nice lanes. They have a heck of a team too. I agree, I cant believe we didn't see one reverse and only saw one bootleg from the QB(who was a great athlete). With everyone in the stadium keying on willis, I figure those plays would be big gainers. but never saw them

  7. Have to agree with you 12:16pm. JLC came in with a TON of weapons that could hurt SMCC. It just seemed that SMCC had an answer for the rest, and the only way they could gain yards consistently was with their monster of a RB. I'm going to put a more in-depth analysis of the game a little later.

Here's the highlight of the game. A 4th and 7 late in the fourth where Bryce Windham somehow finds a way to throw the ball downfield on a broken play. Absolutely crazy…couldn't believe it when I saw it. Hope the link works for everybody. If not let me know.

  8. Khari Willis IS a man amongst boys! He is everything they said he would be and more! Looks like MSU is freakin' reloading for next year. That being said, I have to rip on JLC's coach a little. I think that asking ONE 17 or 18 year old kid, albeit a very talented one, to carry 99% of the offensive load, is a bit much. I know you use your big guns, in this case, gun, if you want to win, but c'mon coach, you need to have at least 10 other plays to give this kid a rest once in a while. I know it doesn't matter now, but it's a lot to ask physically and mentally of a kid that young. All of us SMCC fans knew who was getting the ball on almost every play. It was still hard to stop him. But at the end of the game, when they HAD to throw, there was NO ONE who could step up and help out for JLC. Truly, one man does not make a team. That's what the Falcons have. A TEAM.

  9. That was key… Willis didn't break any super long ones. He did get about 7 yards a carry but not too many over 20. The kid has speed, power and agility.. darn tough to handle.

  10. Yep, it'll be a great game next week as well. I completely underestimated the ability of Khari. I credit SMCC for not letting him break any huge TDs, but that kid was just a monster. Wish him the best at MSU.

  11. I have also heard the same. Northpointe is a great program.
Congrats SMCC, Sounded like a good game, needed every horse you had.

  12. Good job CC!!! Had me on the edge of my seat watching these scores update. Congratulations on another W!!! Keep it going!!! You and Huron keep representing the league with honor and pride!

  13. No, it really didn't look like they had anything set up for that situation. Their last 3 plays looked really similar and SMCC was all over it.

JLC's drive before that was a sweep to Khari over and over and over and over. They must've run the play 7 times before the turnover happened.

  14. INTERCEPTION TO END THE GAME.

    27-26 SMCC WINS

Chris, sorry if this was annoying, but I just wanted to have some detailed updates.

  15. Pass incomplete, 2nd and 15 from the 46 of the Falcons. 7 seconds remaining. Looks like a last second hail mary will decide the game.

  16. KHARI WILLIS FUMBLES ON THE SMCC 25 YARD LINE! WINDHAM RECOVERS

1:29 left in the 4th. 2 timeouts for JLC. First down will win it for the Falcons.

  17. SMCC SCORES! HUGE 29 yard reception on a 4th and 6 to set up a 1-yard run by Lako.

Extra point good to make it 27-26 SMCC. Just over 4 minutes left in the 4th.

  18. Another QB sneak gives JLC the lead 26-20 with about 9 left in the 4th. Missed the extra point, though. Could prove to be crucial in a game this close.

  19. 20-20 into the 4th. SMCC forced to punt. Both defenses look improved but Khari Willis still a force to be reckoned with.

  20. Still 20-20 with 2:42 left in 3rd.

Windham threw a pick and the SMCC Defense forced JLC to punt. SMCC offense starts at own 45

  21. SMCC 20
    JLC 13

    Halftime Analysis
SMCC's defense looks tougher than JLC's. But SMCC is having a really rough time stopping Willis. If JLC can make the right adjustments on defense it could be trouble for CC.

A late fumble by SMCC killed their drive with about 20 seconds left in the half. A score there would have given a ton of life for the Falcons.

Looks like JLC will score more points than I thought but SMCC has scored on every one of their possessions except for their last one of the half which ended in a fumble.

I predicted SMCC to be up 30-14 at the half, but really there wasn't enough time for that amount of points in a drive full of sustained drives.

SMCC's pass game looks great and JLC's has struggled thus far. If JLC does have an answer for the run then we may see SMCC passing more in the second half. If Jack Giarmo can find a way for the defense to slow down Willis, JLC may have some troubles offensively, but I don't see that happening.

Also, the stream seems to have improved, but was REALLY spotty early on.

  22. 20-13 SMCC
    7 play 65 yard drive

Lako with his 2nd TD of the night. SMCC's offense looking strong. Looks like the first team to make a stop might win the game.

    5:36 left in the half.
