  1. You missed the stat on enrollment. I put it out there yesterday.
Salem has 2090, Huron has 877. Salem is one of the bigger schools in the state

  2. 11:21, while that may be true, this is their best team in years and they have multiple kids with D1 offers. Smallest D lineman of the interior 3 based on their roster was 6'4" 290…

  3. Huron fan here we will see how it goes got to play. 5 of remaining 8 games away. This will really test the boys & coaches. The fans will have to travel with them to support them

  4. I agree Schultz and Hauf absolutely let things slide by and then let things get posted as to who they like including coaches/schools if it makes one look a slight bad they will post it if they dislike and if it makes them sound good they won't and vice verse if they like and it makes them look slightly bad no post but if it makes them look good it gets posted. Just depends on who what where if they like

  5. Airport with first year coach first year o coordinator first year d coordinator come from behind win on last drive had to score and had to convert for win

  6. I'm not a "Huron fan" but all the "Huron fans" said was they thought they had the most impressive win. Don't go making assumptions.

  7. Reality Check – Garden City (2-7 last year) was picked to finish second to last and Plymouth Salem (4-5 last year) was picked to finish last in their respective leagues/divisions. You got to beat who is on the schedule but I'm not sure tickets should be purchased to Ford Field yet….

  8. CC is on a little downslide. Everybody has those. Huron is going up. Awesome. Even tho I dislike CC, they do not brag. They arent all over this blog saying how great they are after starting 1-0. The best way to start is 1-0 in any sport. But please, enough of the bragging Huron fans, quit acting like every other team owes you something.

  9. Huron win, definitely most impressive. New coach, back to the wall, halftime adjustments were absolutely necessary. They got it done.

    Very Impressive. No doubt.

Mr. Hauf, Your question seems to be a set up right off the bat. We all know your an SMCC guy, but don't bait us with a question about impressive wins and then complain because everyone didn't say SMCC. Just saying sir. SMCC has had many impressive wins over the years, time for a little light on Huron or anybody else.

  10. Is no one going to say? Very good teams don't give up 28-0 runs??? They mitigate damage! At least a state championship coached team would. Just saying. Looking forward to a great year for Huron ! Just can't do what we did last week again! EVER

  11. Huron did. People don't understand Salem's size & physicality if you weren't at the game. They are a very good team and when Huron got it going, they put up a 28-0 run.

  12. Glad to see the Chiefs coming out with that W. I was biting my nails at work watching the score updates. Good job boys! Keep it up! Can't wait to see where Spiess takes them this season.

    Kc

  13. Keep up the Lake Erie water temperature Jeff !!! You two sounded as if you've been together 15 plus years !!! It was exciting listening to you guys !!! Great job !!!

  14. Jeff Grodi and Gary Hauff … great commentary and call of the game last night on 98.3 Nash …can't wait till next Friday !!!

  15. 6:34 comment, Airport won't be D2-3 they will never be D2.

They have been D3 and D4 in the playoffs since the change to 6 wins and in.

They are larger than Dundee for sure but nowhere near a D2 enrollment. Dundee and Airports enrollment together barely puts a school in D2.

  16. I agree Gary…gotta remember Trenton scrimmage they were switching lineman in n out every 4 plays on the oline n dline…plus one of there better backs were out , Marino ….they have Milan next week, so there's no time off for sure…first 5 games for SMCC are going to tell a lot about them …they should feel really good about themselves and confidence should be high heading into next week !!!

  17. SMCC scrimmaged Trenton. Trenton beat what we think is a pretty good Allen Park in week 1. Maybe CC didn't that bad. Maybe Trenton is just real good. The scrimmage was a 14-14 tie. No, I don't think PW is down. They probably will go 8-1.

  18. What an amazing opening week! Tons of great last minute wins. Carlson, SMCC, Huron, Airport, Flat Rock, Ida, Bedford and Riverview. All with tremendous wins!

  19. Dundee will win a lot of games this year. Very hard to stop that offense. Lineman fire out at you and Ben Miller is one of the best runners I've seen. He runs through you for an extra 2-3 yards every time. I wouldn't be surprised if Dundee finishes at 7-2.

  20. Dundee d5-6 school in football AP D2-3 so yeah much smaller school AP feel bad for our kids dominated much of game ran out of gas at end must finish our drives and we wouldn't have been in that situation and need kicker for the 1point instead of going for 2

  21. Need to feed #4 the ball more though Airport he is a beast out there and when you have more time on offense he will need more touches to get 6 wins

  22. We will do a week 1 review and have it up on Monday. Our week 2 preview will most likely be up Wednesday. Look for stars of the week tomorrow and then Thoughts and Questions on Sunday.

  23. 10:08, just so you know. Dundee is a class B school, so not a push over. They have a nice backfield with bruising runner (miller). Yes, AP struggled the 1st half stopping run, but made adjustments and only allowed one TD 2nd half. Dundee will win some games and put up points with their offense. Don't take nothing away from a nice win. AP is much improved and will win some games this year and at least be in all the games. Great start for the Huron League tonight and should be a balanced league. I don't see any team going through it without a loss.

  24. CC Fan @ 10:50…

I'm not talking smack about Airports win, just shared how it went down.

The #BuildingChampions is much bigger than this season or this game, or this sport. It's about building these young people in this school district into champions in life.

  25. looks like a good week 1 for the Huron league! Should make for some good league play as we move forward. On to week 2.

  26. CC, Huron, View, and Airport all played great tonight. Congrats to the league cant believe CC and Huron pulled off the wins (although CC played PW well last season too). Plus that Airport game sounded fun excited to see them soon but on to FR. View was up all game except for 3 minutes in the 3rd.
    View Faithful

  27. While the run D left something to be desired, Airport made some nice halftime adjustments. They only gave up 8 second half points after giving up 28 in the first half. EM

  28. Airport has some issues on the O and D-line. One key starter Tommy Shinevare (OG) on the O-line is out with injury, Logan Mays (OT) has a cast on one of his hands.Sam Johnson (C & DT) was out the first half due a slight concussion he had during practice. He didn't see the field on offense which makes sense as Airport was drving and scoring just fin but was a key factor in stuffing some Dundee drives on defense in the second half comeback. Airport made a nice drive down the field pre-half to add 3 points which made it 15-28 Dendee. Twice I might add as a penalty pushed them back 5 yards making it for 3 fro about the 35. Airport played bend dont break defense the second half stopping 3 drives in the red zone. One resulting on a. questionable coaching decision passing on their 2 yrd line that resulted in a safetythat was frankly held onto for too long. Making it 29-36 dundee. Which happened around 7:36. Airport made another of those key stops to get the ball back following the safety. Airport gets the ball back with 5 mins no time outs walks down scores with no time on the clock and Tanner Jeska rushed like his life depended on it on a well covered pass play for two to win.. Not pretty football but good football none the less. Toughness and conditioning was a factor and Airport had it. Tough well played game by both teams. Passing being a key factor in the Airport win creating another threat dundee had to cover opening the run game. Dundee made a couple good passes to key some of their drives alive.Good showing for both teams in an expected low scoring game. Both teams showed grit and a willingness to dig in which may be telling for how they do in their perspective leagues.Key to dundee marching on Airport was Airport was in good position to finish their plays defensely but they just didn't execute well letting Salenbien and others fall forward on every run for an extra 2-3 from contact resulting in alot of 6, 8 yard 1st down runs. Dundee won the first down battle for the first half at least and handedly too. Sorry for the one sided take as Im a Jets fan and Alumni and am not very familar with Dundee.

  29. Outstanding second half by Huron against a school much bigger than them. Not only was Salem bigger in enrollment they outsized Huron on the field. Huron is not big, but they have some skill players & game breakers. They have so many players it looked like it took them a half to figure out who to play. It's going to be interesting to see how they develop.

  30. 3/4 win team at AP at best had a difficult time on run defense when team mix in pass they will be shredded bigger faster teams on horizon for you guys thought offense was ok vs a poor Dundee defense…..as they say only thing that matters is final score jets start out 2-0 GI is very very bad this year go jets

  32. These people still hating on Airport! Come on!! Congratulations to the boys!! Keep talking your smack! We can take it!! Keep dishing it! Great game Airport!!

  33. Glad to see some great wins in the Huron League. Good job Smcc on bouncing back for a great start. Good job Carlson on your great start. This is going to be another interesting season. Good luck to all teams.-JS

  34. Way to come back chiefs outstanding job boys. And it takes great coaching to bring a team back from 21-0. Go chiefs

  35. Sorry about the comments snafu during the games tonight. For some reason I wasn't getting any comments. I made some tweeks late in the evening and realized people had been sending updates all night long. I think Sprint sucks sometimes in Huron Township. Thank you for being patient.

  36. #building champions after a Dundee win? Didn't AP beat Dundee last year like 37-12? That might be the most optimistic hashtag ever. Let's see how u do against the league before making those kind of statements.

    CC fan.

  37. FR fan and got to watch airport. Amazing win but boy did Dundee run all over them. Gonna be tough slledding again this year at AP if they can't stop Dundee. Last I checked, things ain't getting easier from here w HL play starting.

  38. 10:08 poster get a life. You must still be pouting over the beatings Airport gave you when you were in high school. EM

  39. CC was gone for a minute but they back now, they goin to show the Huron league how to act now, pewamo go ahead and sit down.

  40. CC was gone for a minute but they back now, they goin to show the Huron league how to act now, pewamo go ahead and sit down.

  41. What class is dundee? New D at airport? Not sure they stopped Dundee but once. Huron league play next week…..

  42. Airport final score was 37-36 with a 96 yard game winning drive with 2:02 on the clock and no timeouts. Scored on the last play of the game and got the two-point conversion to walk off winners. #BuildingChampions

  43. Milan finally breaks through on the scoreboard, capping off a 54-yard drive. Most of the heavy lifting came on hard runs by Hunter Aeschbacher. Chelsea now leads 27-7. 3:21 to go in the 4th.

  44. Milan trails at the half 17-0. The Milan defense has done a good job of bottling up the Chelsea running backs, but a few good runs by Chelsea's QB has helped move the sticks. Field position has benefited Chelsea as well.

Milan's offense is still looking for solutions. The Big Reds had one good drive in particular but couldn't keep the momentum. A lack of chunk plays has caused the Milan O to have a very small margin for error.

  45. Poor coaching (time management) cost Huron 2 points before half. Pick 6 too. Another interception in end zone. Not a disciplined start for the Chiefs.
