Airport @ Riverview

Riverview (2-0) is off to an impressive start after beating defending league champ Milan 21-7 last week while Airport (2-0) dropped Jefferson 31-21. The Pirates won last seasons game 27-10, but the Jets have won seven out of the last ten.

Airport has used a solid defense and a hard nosed running game in route to victories in the first two games. The Jets have a big offensive line that has opened holes for their three RB’s and the defense has been physical.

Riverview has adapted well to a new coach. Eric Gant and Tyler Chase have helped the Pirates establish a good running game. The defense led by Steve Pinkava has been opportunistic and good enough the first two weeks.

Another good early season match up here. This is a game I saw Airport winning early in the season, but now I’m not so sure. Guess I will flip a coin. Prediction: Airport 21 Riverview 20

  1. OK but so we are clear, Redmond didn't run the wing-T, he ran a double wing set with a deep back behind the QB. That was his base set.

  2. Airports offense is still the Wing-T and has some variations in formations as has been the case for the past 16 seasons. The coaches have changed a few times but the offense is the same with new wrinkles.

Tendencies change with personnel and coaching staff.

The staples: Fullback behind QB, Diveback back a few yards off to the left/right of the FB and a Wingback opposite the dive just off the line.

Riverviews defensive studs can make a big difference here in this game, but I like the already battle tested Jets in a slugfest.

  3. Who works harder in practice this week has nothing to do with who will win.

I believe its on the coaches to game plan correctly and make adjustments in game.

This is where the good coaches separate themselves from the ok coaches.

    Both teams will work hard.

  4. Riverview looks solid. So does airport. I think it will come down to who worked harder this week at practice. Neither team has a shot at the league though

  5. The riverview d line anchored by Gardocki and Borgert will not get pushed around. If airport decides to run up the middle it's going to be a long for them. Riverview 34 airport 14

  6. "So who do you think will win the airport-view game bn? What about you em?"

I wrote above that I thought Airport would win the game but this game has me a bit stumped. I haven't gotten to see either team play so I can only go on previous games played.

I don't think Milan is very good at all this year. So View's win there wasn't all that great to me. While Airports win vs Adrian is pretty darn impressive.

With that said the game is at Riverview, that has to be worth a few points.

Can anyone tell me if the Jets are running Redmonds old offense?
Double wing with one deep back, jet motion… you know.

Anyway my previous prediction was 28-21 Jets. I think it will be closer since it is at Riverview.

  7. I can offer no specific insight into any JV team. I haven't seen a single full game in years and I don't think I can name a single player except for maybe one and that is because I played high school football with the kids dad.

  8. I would say that Airport has the only good win of the 2(Adrian). Milan is just not good this year at all. I am going to go with the jets here.

    28-21

  9. I know they have yet to play the game, but this is the prediction side of the blog. I feel that most people on this blog are seriously underestimating Riverview. They handled Milan pretty well, and Milan is no joke. Sure, Airport beat Jefferson, but it's Jefferson.

I predict Riverview makes a statement this Friday. 28-7. Or worse.

  10. Riverview will beat Airport no problem. If the D- LIne doesn't over pursue and holds their spots they will shut down Airports run. Riverview will beat Airport handily.

    Riverview 31 Airport 17

    1. No way Riverview wins handily. Riverview's DLine won't have a chance to over pursue, they will be too busy getting pushed around.
