Huron @ Riverview

The Chiefs (3-1) are coming off of a 28-14 victory over Milan while Riverview (4-0) routed Jefferson 37-6. The Pirates won last season’s instant classic with a thrilling 40-37 victory which saw five lead changes in the final 3:54 of the game. Riverview has won the last three meetings by a total 10 points.

Riverview comes into Friday’s game averaging 34 ppg. The Pirates are led by senior QB Drew Kroll on offense while the running game is led junior Eric Gant. The defense has been just as impressive giving up just under 12 ppg and is led by maybe the best LB in the league, Tyler Chase.

Huron has had to shrug off a season ending ACL injury to senior RB Ian Robinson against SMCC. Two underclassmen have filled in at the position with junior Jacob Fryer and sophomore Robert Sullins getting most of the carries. Huron’s defense has been opportunistic this season. Senior CB Devin Collins leads the Chiefs with 3 Int’s.

Although nothing can compare to last season’s game, these two teams are evenly matched. Both appear to be playoff caliber teams with stars on both sides of the ball. Two players to watch out for are Riverview’s Adam Borgert and Huron’s Jonathan Krug. Both are extremely physical linemen. Another player to watch out for is Huron’s junior QB Matt Hartwick. He has accounted for 8 TD’s in the first four games this season.

This could be a low scoring affair with whoever wins the turnover battle winning the game. This may not be the only meeting of these two teams this season. It is homecoming at Riverview, that has to be worth something. Prediction Riverview 16 Huron 14

  1. How many times are we going to have to read about how Milan should have beaten Riverview? Enough already. Riverview is 4-0 and Milan is struggling. Get over it, you guys lost.

Turnovers and penalties are part of the game. Sour grapes. Milan is just not that good of a football team this year, it is ok to be in a rebuilding mode.

  2. Duh?
    Yeah, it's called defense.
Every offensive play is designed to go all the way. Every defensive call is designed to make a stop.

    Duh?
Who can execute will make the difference.
    Duh?
I guess some get their football smarts from ESPN…Duh…lol

  3. Hurons line is equal in size and speed of Riverviews line lol they have almost the same packages in the backfield as well. This is going to be a closer game than people think

  4. It will come down to who's underclassmen come through in the pinch

What juniors will step it up?

The difference will be who can execute and make stops. Also, the team that turn the ball over loses.

    Lower scoring than people think…
    21-20 Huron

Why? The ball bounces west on Friday…

  5. Nothing will compare to last year's game. Just WOW. But this year I think both teams are evenly matched so should be a good game, although I think it will be close, if any team does roll and pour it on it's more likely to be Riverview.

  6. I don't see that score at all. Both teams played Milan about the same. Obviously football is about match ups. These teams are almost a mirror image of each other personal wise. Big linemen with good speed from the skill guys. I see it as a toss up. Anybody hear of a September surprise?

    1. I played both teams Rv&Nb n I should be beat one for sure. So I believe Nb will win..Rv isn't that good Milan should of beat them.

  7. I think it's gonna be a different out come. The defenses of both teams faulter until the end. It's going to be a higher scoring game than you think.

Huron turns over on downs on their last possession with 2:00 or less left on the clock.

  8. Riverview will roll guys. They are very good. Big, quick, will control the line no problem.
I like Hurons program being on the upswing, but not this week.

Riverview is for real boys !

  9. Anon, i dont know who Views kicker is nor the stats. Lol

I do know Hurons kicker isn't bad but I haven't seen a field goal from Huron (unless I've missed it) but I'm sure Huron knows they may have to go for the attempt so it'll be practiced all day thursday. All I can say is this is going to be an awesome game for both teams.

  10. I actually agree with Chris on this. Very close one. I like the way both QBs are playing and can play. I wish Krug and Chase could line up over each other on every play.

muffed place hold on the kick is the difference.

    It travels, right Chris????

  11. Tip for the Huron Coach:

Don't kick it deep to the best player on the team when you are up by less than a TD with a minute to go.

  12. Pirates and Chiefs. This is gonna be a good one. On paper they're the most matched teams in the league. If Huron beats Riverview they will finish the season 8-1, lose and they still finish 7-2 and see the play-offs..If this game is anything like last year, it's gonna be a close one. I'm gonna say 4th quarter 21-21; with a field goal being the final factor. Huron 24 – View 21.
